[Night has fallen on Balamb Garden; the halls of Garden are mostly deserted besides the stray student walking about, and even the usual faculty members are missing from their posts around the school. There's a certain festive energy through the air, the source coming from the Ballroom cheerily decorated located on the second floor.

At exactly 2100, as soon as the dinner rush ends, the Garden chime sounds and the intercom clicks on. The Headmaster speaks to the Garden.]

The Valentine's Day dance is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom.

I repeat, the Valentine's Day dance is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom. The dance will run until 2400. Students leaving the ball after curfew are to return to their dorms immediately.

The dance and its festivities tonight are being sponsored very generously by the Garden Festival Committee.

[After the announcement, the intercom falls silent. The faint sound of music can be heard from the second floor of the building.]

The dance isn't mandatory, so students that choose not to attend won't be punished. The Headmaster, Garden faculty and even some of the instructors are all present at the dance, so troublemakers are free to roam until 2400. The dance itself will last from 2100-2400 in the second floor ballroom and the music will be the same kind of upbeat peppy orchestrated pieces that the game used. Caterers will roam offering drinks and refreshments to attendants, as well a stationary stand for punch and food is offered.

[But he moves to the side anyway, escorting her off like a vague approximation of a gentleman. He may have picked up a dance move or two, but he still doesn't quite have a sophisticated level of polish.]

[She wraps her arms around his arm, pretty much hugging it as they walk. So maybe they did treat every day like Valentine's day between the two of them, but she didn't care.]

[Glad that he hasn't changed too much? You bet she is. She wouldn't know what to do if he'd managed to turn into a completely different person in that time she'd missed after all.

[Hadn't changed? Oh, Serah... he'd changed a lot. Just for the better... so of course you wouldn't notice. You thought so highly of him already.]

Can't have you getting thirsty, anyway.

[Hadn't changed in the important ways. Little things aren't so bad, but he's still at his core the same Snow she fell in love with. Now if they'd turned him into a fancy polished gentleman, she probably wouldn't have known what to think just because he wouldn't have felt like himself any more.]

I'm not even that thirsty yet, I just wasn't sure what we should do next.

Classes aren't so bad. I tried to balance classes I'm familiar with and classes I don't know anything about like self defense. It's a lot of fun really. The history here is fascinating!

I went shopping with Mikuru and Gabriella for the dance; They helped me pick out my dress.

They advised you well. [Of course he would have said that no matter what she wore. Anything and everything would look beautiful on her, because she gives it all her poise, grace, and beauty herself.]

Is it... bad that I feel bad, in a way, that you're learning self-defense and all that? Or really, that you have to learn it, as part of the curriculum here. It'd be different if you had more of a choice in it.

I'm glad you like it. [She knows he'd say the same thing if she was wearing a paper bag, but that's not the point.]

I don't mind. This way Lightning might worry about me less and when I learn more about magic maybe I'll be able to help both of you. So there's no reason to feel bad, I'm happy to get the chance to learn stuff like this.

Light and I will both go out of our heads worrying, but I'll try not to show it too much. [But oh boy, did he never want Serah to be hurt or harmed in any way,]

I'll be okay. The instructor's been showing me how to use my size as an advantage you know. It's actually really neat. [Looking up she watches him closely.] I was thinking about taking martial arts as my combat, but you have to promise not to treat me any different than the other cadets when we're in class.

I wouldn't be doing either of us any favors if I treated you special. I'd get in trouble, you wouldn't learn... I can't give you special favors no matter what. So I just won't start.

[She smiles, knowing he'd say something of the sort. Snow was anything if not fair about this sort of thing.]

I wouldn't say no to extra training outside of class though.

[Snow quickly puts a hand over his mouth to hide a grin as he looks away. Yes, his mind had gone... elsewhere.]

[It doesn't take an A student to know what that means.]

That's not what I meant! [She laughs, nudging Snow a little with her shoulder playfully.] Not that I'm saying no either. I think we could find the time for... both forms of physical exercise.

[She's still blushing a little at even saying it, but what did you expect from her?]

[Snow just laughs, pulling her close into a tight hug again.]

You know your classes come first as well as I do. Same with my duties. We'll just have to be smart about how we spend our time.

[Who needs punch when you can have hugs? She's totally fine with waiting for that drink.]

I know. Lightning would have my head if I let my grades slip just because we're in a different world now. I'll still make sure to leave plenty of time for you too though, promise.

[No promises that a good part of that time won't be spent sleeping, but she'd do what she could.]

No, she'd have my head. You'd get a stern talking-to.

We'll have plenty of time, classes or not. We'll have all our lives together.

[Reaching up, she tugs him down so that she can plant a soft, mostly chaste kiss on his mouth. Why is he so perfect?]

Forever started at first sight? [She asks, looking up at him with a look that's part surprise and part wonder.]

Well, it's not like I knew it had, then. But with you being you and me being me, how could everything have gone any other way?

Serendipity? I guess it's possible. It's certainly a nice idea to think about anyway.

There's no way I couldn't have noticed a girl as cute as you, and no way I couldn't have fallen for a girl just like you.

So any really cute orphan girl would have fit the bill? [She's teasing of course and they both know this.] It's no wonder you didn't fall in love with Lebreau.
