[Returning to the Garden wasn't necessarily something Lightning was looking forward to. Sure, it had its perks, but she still doesn't consider it home. Home is where her family is and from what she remembers of the Garden, her family certainly isn't here. Admittedly, a small part of her is looking forward to seeing if she remembers anyone here. It would make things easier.

And so she starts her trek to the dorms, duffel bag in hand and steps confident. It wouldn't do much good if she just wasted time in the lobby, after all. She has things to do and even more things to set up. The sooner she could do that, the sooner she could get down to business.]

Welcome back, I guess. [She mutters, completely nonplussed and entirely to herself.]

[grins widely as he screeches to a halt before her] I missed you. Coming back to teach, eh?

[She had almost forgotten how energetic he could be. She missed you too, Tom.] Intermediate and Advanced Bladed Weapons. Been keeping busy?

Yeah, kinda. [sheepishly shrugs] I teach Boxing now, so that's not much of a problem.

[Really, he's not going to talk about his time in rehab - Lightning would've most likely known that he's a recovering alcoholic - so. Let it suffice that Tom's been a good Tinkerkitty.]

Your students keeping up with you?

[She won't ask about it unless he brings it up. She'd be glad to know he's been good, though.]

Easily. I'm kind of impressed, actually.

[Huh. She wasn't expecting that.] ...Maybe being an instructor won't be so bad.

Possibly. I just... ya know, it's an elective. So I don't get as many kids as you prolly will.

I think they will. And if they don't, let me know. I bet Wildcat's still got his magic touch. [yeeeep. He just suggested that he could scare them into listening.]

[You're going to get a look for that, Tom. It isn't everyday that someone offers to scare someone for Lightning. She can usually manage that on her own. Consider her surprised.] ...You're going to scare them into listening, Tom?

Maybeeeee. [He's honestly teasing at this point. Lightning still scares him sometimes.] Though I'd much rather play the good cop to your bad cop, you know?

Good cop, huh? [She's smirking a little. Yeah, okay, she might have missed him more than she initially thought.] Think they'll go for it?

If they've got enough sense? Proly not-- but when'd that ever stop me? [Oh, right--he stares down at her duffel bag]

Need help unpacking, by the way? I can walk with ya back to the dorms or whatever.

You have a point. [The mention of unpacking brings her attention back to her bag and she glances at it briefly before returning her gaze to him.]

I can manage unpacking by myself, but if you want to come along... I can't stop you. [That's as close to a "sure, let's go" as Lightning gets.]

[Tom snorts a little as he starts walking beside her] Many hands make light work. It'll be fine.

Saw anything interesting while you were out?

[Her pace is brisk without hurrying and she glances towards him. She's an extremely light packer, so it shouldn't take her long at all.]

Business as usual. Things still seem tense out there. Anything interesting happen while I was gone?

[werepanther]

[He presses his lips at the news. It definitely wasn't what he wanted to hear.] Nothing "tense," thankfully.

Mostly the Time Compression at work: I came back early because a bunch of students got de-aged and Garden was scrambling for babysitters. That and... the Newsletter outright accused someone of being a traitor to Garden.

Iiii think that's about it. Nothing like the world ending.

[That causes her to pause for a moment. De-aged and issues with the Newsletter? And so she sighs.]

Sounds like a mess. Did it last long? And the Newsletter... Can't imagine whomever was on wrong end of that was too thrilled.

The de-aging was probably... two weeks at the most? That was back in December; the newsletter only came out last week. [shakes his head] Those're really the big things.

I can't think of anything else that happened in the meantime, beyond some Cadet landing detention for trying to sample students' DNA.

[She frowns some, wondering just when the newsletter became a gossip rag. Then again, she only picks them up for the more serious news like Garden relations.] Great.

And just what was the Cadet going to do with the DNA? [Because that sounds incredibly suspicious.]

God only knows. [He rolls his eyes, opening the door to her room] I just hope he uses that knowledge for good.

Sounds a little suspicious. [If you're holding that door for her, Tom, it probably doesn't even occur to her. She's waiting for you to go in.] I don't remember the Garden offering classes involving the collection of human DNA.

[werepanther]

[Oh. Huh, he'll go ahead and walk in. If he needs her - which he doubts - he's hovering near her bed.] That's because they don't. The Biology course's lab was blood-sampling, not DNA.

One of the other Instructors got 'im in the end, so that's taken care of.

[She follows him inside and sets her duffel bag on a nearby chair before unzipping it and pulling a couple of books out. History, to be exact.] Guess that's something to keep an eye out for.

Serah is here. [She sets the books on a small pile of similar ones. Tom has probably heard her talk about her little sister before, but her tone is strange.] And I wasn't aware Snow was an instructor. [Or even at the Garden, really.]

[werepanther]

Bingo.

[He can't help smiling upon hearing that] Really? That's great! Jeez, your sister--and her fiance? It'll be nice having some more folks from yer world. [That just makes him think of his world--the only person he's seen from his corner is Robin. Tom really doesn't like associating with the Batfamily, so he just avoids the kid.]
