[ There were things Mukuro hadn't done in a long while. One, go to classes. Two, be enrolled in school. Three, be somewhere completely new where no one had any idea who he was. One of these three was definitely more thrilling than the other two.

While he had read the letter (hilarious), he hadn't even opened the course catalog. Instead he'd just tossed it behind him as he made his way through the lobby. Oops, he had dropped it and so forth. They were all very concerned about playing nice here, it seemed.

And that was definitely amusing. He really couldn't help laughing a little. What a stupid situation to find himself in again. ]

[ Mukuro tilted his head to the side and then gave Luke a very nice smile. It was the kind of polite smile that he'd gotten very good at giving over the years. And then replied, in rather good English: ]

I'm sorry, my English isn't so great yet. Could you repeat the question? Maybe slower?

I...

[What had he just said? Something about his English being great. Or he thought that was what he said. He was a little too flustered from running to Mukuro to focus on translations very well.]

Look, I can't really understand you. But I'm Luke. [He points at himself, to make sure he is being completely clear] And we have to talk.

[ Mukuro had to laugh. It was hard not to. Luke was so very confused and not very good at this language thing, it seemed. ]

Hi, Mukuro.

[Luke responds in english too, but does not manage to appear cheerful as he says it, indeed, he seems kind of disappointed. But it sounded... so familiar... he had to be sure]

Do you really not remember me?

What's the proper answer to that, I wonder? I could easily say either and it wasn't like you'd understand me.

[ Mukuro couldn't quite decide on how obnoxious he felt like being. He was mildly annoyed, yes, but also somewhat subdued. It would also be somewhat advantageous to know someone here. ]

[Luke wondered if Mukuro was intentionally using complicated words when a simple 'yes' or 'no' would have been fine, and decides he probably is. Unfortunately he figured Mukuro was enough of an ass to do that either way]

I can't understand that! Quit being a jerk and just say yes or no.

Yes or no to what? I did say my English wasn't that great.

[ This, at least, was improving his mood. ]

[Uuugh, okay, calm down Luke. You did recognize all of those words. TAKES A SECOND to play back what Mukuro had said in his head.

He... doesn't understand me? Luke debates the likelihood of THAT for a second, then in accented but understandable English:]

You're doubting me, then? That's a little rude to someone you've just met.

[ Mukuro wondered if Luke would believe that. He wasn't really working at it, but on one hand if Luke did believe it then he sort of deserved to be tricked. On the other ... allies were useful enough. ]

[that was, the opposite of believe, right? Why didn't this place make everything easy like camp did]

Yeah, I am doubting.

[Luke was already exasperated, but he wasn't going to give up, so h grabbed for Mukuro's hand, meaning to drag him somewhere they could talk. If they stayed in the middle of the hallway eventually someone was going to come remind them to go to class. He switched back to his own language, letting the translator do the work]

It's not like you tell the truth much anyway. Come on, we still have to talk.

[ Mukuro let himself be dragged, for the moment. He really didn't feel the need to go to class. Well, he hadn't picked any classes either. He wasn't planning on sticking around too long, after all. ]

Talk about what?

[This place has so many classes that Luke isn't expecting to find an empty classroom, so he drags Mukuro in the direction of the quad instead]

[But what WAS there to talk about, if Mukuro didn't even know who he was?]

I'm... your friend, okay? Even if you don't remember me. But you can't hurt people here.

Anyone suddenly claiming that they have to talk and that you're friend . . . you'd call that suspicious, wouldn't you?

[ Mukuro commented. Luke was certainly determined, though. ]

Uh... could you talk more simply? I haven't been here that long.

[ Mukuro points a finger at Luke. ]

You. Are. Suspicious.

[???]

No.

[points at self]

Luke.

[points at Mukuro]

Mukuro.

I thought we got that.

[ . . . well. Some things never changed. There wasn't much else to do but laugh at Luke, then, and decide he'd been pulled around enough. ]

If you can't even understand that, I'm not sure how we're going to talk, Luke fon Fabre.

[There it went again, a whole string of words Luke was going to have to sort out. At least again he recognized most of them, so he could sort figure...]

Why can't you just use short sentences like no--

[.......Luke..fon Fabre? Normally Luke wouldn't have been able to remember if he'd introduced himself fully. But he's sort of given up his family name and. hadn't bothered telling anyone but the people who worked at the school.

Which is the main reason Luke picks up on Mukuro's not-all-that-subtle-hint]

[AND THEN THERE IS HUGGING]

[ Mukuro sighs, taking the moment to wonder exactly how he'd ended up enjoying the company of a moron so much. ]

You're pretty dumb.

You're an ass.

[Luke was not even a little surprised to find that Mukuro had been pulling his chain, but it was still an incredible relief to know he was here and someone knew him and someone recognized him and he wasn't alone. He hadn't actually been aware he'd been that upset about it until it went away.

Hugs continue for another few seconds because of that though]

And you're really terrible at English.

[ It had entered his mind to shove at Luke, or continue being an ass, but this was actually so normal seeming now it didn't seem worth it. An improvement, actually. That thought made him laugh. ]

[Pulling himself together, lets Mukuro go, though it is obvious he is still having EMOTIONS and he rubs at his face a little while trying to sort out what Mukuro said]

I've only been here - this world - for a few weeks, and at the Gardens for one week. And no one here speaks my language. It's not that easy to learn, okay?

I just arrived today.

[ It was really a good thing that Mukuro had ~~grown out of~~ already been through his mostly manipulative phase with Luke. Emotional moments like this always reminded him of the things he could do (did do? ... was doing?) to people. ]

So, you don't understand any of this?

[ And then Mukuro switched to Italian, not really liking the way it sounded. But it had been a while since people had spoke their own language around him. Camp had been convenient in that fashion at least. ]

[Luke understood the first part until Mukuro abruptly switched to nonsense]
