[Night has fallen on Balamb Garden; the halls of Garden are mostly deserted besides the stray student walking about, and even the usual faculty members are missing from their posts around the school. There's a certain festive energy through the air coming from the happily decorated ballroom located on the second floor.

[At exactly 2100, as soon as the dinner rush ends, the Garden chime sounds and the intercom clicks on. The Headmaster speaks to the Garden.]

The Homecoming Dance is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom.

I repeat, the Homecoming Dance is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom. The ball will run until 2400. Students leaving the ball after curfew are to return to their dorms immediately.

The ball and its festivities tonight are being sponsored very generously by the Garden Festival Committee.

[After the announcement, the intercom falls silent. The faint sound of music can be heard from the second floor of the building.

[Within the ballroom, there is a stationary stand for punch and food, as well as roaming caterers offering drinks (grape juice) and canapes.]

There is a comment thread for voting here. Votes will close on Monday night OOC-ly (or later if we don't get many votes over the weekend) and there will another thread for announcing and crowning the winners.

Attendance is entirely optional, so with most of the faculty at the dance, characters are free to roam the rest of the school!

[Fionna is by herself, the magic of the night dying down a little for her. Part of her was still smarting, seeing Namur and Kory together: she knew, of course, Kory would never do something like this on purpose. No, it was Namur, captivated by Kory for reasons anyone could see: she was wordly, intelligent, beautiful.

And, in retrospect, something more glaring. She was not a human.

Fionna did not contradict Namur when he went off on humans. She knew little to nothing of human conflict, only that they did some horrible things. But up until now, considering everything, Fionna wondered if maybe, just maybe, she might actually have something with Namur. They danced, Namur had a hint of what she was feeling before she did, and he even seemed to care about her.

After this though, Fionna wondered if she had projected that all by herself. Did Namur ever engage her they way he did Kory? He called her Smolt, berated her, and danced off with her. In retrospect, these were things you did with a kid sister. Not a lady, not someone sophisticated.

Which Fionna was obviously not.

[Ace smiled, milling around when he noticed Fionna sitting in the corner by herself. concerned he headed over to check on her.]

Fionna, you alright?

Hmp?
[Oh, its Ace. She gave him a wave, and tried to give him a smile].

Yeah, I'm good, just a little tired I guess.

[Smiles and moves to stand closer]

Mah...don't lie to me Fionna. I can tell somethings bothering you. Is it some guy...I'll beat him up for making you upset.

[MAN. Why is she so crappy at lying?]

I'm just thinking about some stuff. It's not really something you can help, you know. It's one of those things I think I kinda can't change.

I can respect that. But it is a lovely night and you are supposedly my running partner and I would love nothing me then if you would dance with me right now. What do you say? [Holds out his hand to her]

[Fionna gives him a crooked smile. Trust Ace to pull her out of her funk].

Heh, why not? I kinda hope you win anyway.

I hope you would win as well. [Takes her hand and leads her out onto the dance floor. It's moderately slow song so he keeps her hand as he starts leading her in a loose waltz that should be easy to follow]

[Fionna has no problem doing this, and is even fairly impressive in her footwork. It seems her mind is elsewhere, however].

Honestly, sis. What's wrong?

[Fionna didn't say anything for awhile, then turned to him].

Ace, why do you call me your little sister? Do I seem, like, really young to you?

Really young? No not really...you're about as young as my brother Luffy. It's more of a term of endearment? You are younger than me and you're smaller...if it bothers you I won't use it anymore.

What brought this frame of thought on?

It's not...that it bothers me, per say. I just wonder y'know, if people just think I'm immature and don't think I'm ever serious, or have heavy things on my mind.

There's someone I like, but I think all he sees are the hat and me just being a funny goof all the time. There's more to me than that.

Well I don't think you're immature. I mean...well no more than the rest of us anyway. [he chuckle lightly.]

If he can't see how awesome you are then maybe he's not the right one, yeah?

[Though Fionna did not feel better after this, really. That was two guys in the same evening that she knew might sorta like her both seem more if not equally captivated by her good friend.]

I dunno, it just feels weird, like, I'm the kinda girl dudes like to hang with, and have fun and even kiss, but they really want more of a girl who looks flashy and real...pretty.

You are pretty, Fionna. And don't ever let anyone else tell you otherwise. You're 16, you don't need to worry about this just yet. I think of you like a baby sister, but there will be someone one day who wants more than a sister. You just keep being yourself and the right man will find you when the time is right.

[Total BS in his mind...but he hopes it might help her]

[Fionna looked thoughtful about this, but not all that convinced. It was less about "the right men," as Fionna didn't think like that. For her, it was about finding someone she liked and cared about, and more and more she could see that it happened to be a certain person].

What if you already know the person you like, and they...seem like they like something different?

Then there might not be anything you can do about it sadly.

[Fionna's face fell]

Yeah, you know, you might be right. Thanks for the advice, bro.

I'm really sorry it's not good news, sis.

Yeah, well, I sorta figured it might be like that. Still, can't give up completely, right?
