Guessing by all the BBS posts up today, I think most of you have seen the new issue of the newsletter. With that said, I'd like to state a formal apology addressed to the Cadets, SeeDs and Faculty in Garden.

I was the one that was caught waterbending by a native down at the beach in Dollet. I know, I know-- It was a stupid thing for me to do. I was overeager at the chance of being surrounded by my element and I made a bad judgment call. I should have been more mindful of my actions, as now my carelessness has caused for the natives to become wary of Garden.

But at the same time, I don't regret having exposed this sort of prejudice that the natives hold against us off-worlders. We're here because we don't have a choice-- if I had my way, I would be home where I wouldn't be ostracized for a natural ability that isn't viewed as a curse by the people of my world. Bending is an art form, a rare gift that only the few and proud possess. I shouldn't have to be ashamed of it or live in fear because of my ability.

Even if I do have the gift to manipulate water, I know better than to use it against innocent people. What's to say that everyone who has a unique ability immediately has ill intentions? Their ignorance isn't going to make our lives any easier during our stay in this world. There has to be a way to make them see us in a different light.

I'm not trying to say that all natives are bigots-- but honestly, even you can't deny that some of the native cadets also see us in an unfavorable light. Even now some of these cadets don't consider us as comrades. We haven't done anything to provoke them, but they still treat us with little respect.

Clearly there is a reason to why "sorceresses" are seen as bad, the entire world was scarred in some way and after you've been wronged it's hard for the other side to justify themselves.

You'd know that better than anyone.

Some things won't change, no matter how much we want them to.

It's not something you'd be able to understand if you're not from here I think.

Anyone who confuses waterbending or a limit break for a sorceress's magic clearly hasn't ever actually seen a sorceress.

If people had your mentality all the time, this world, and even our home worlds, would be a lot worse. People are prone to change for the better or worse (I'm supporting the former), not overnight and definitely not always quickly, and because of that the possibilities are endless.

I never said they were, but if you're not going to put in the effort and take the easy road, then what's the point in trying?

Probably not too many people now that you mention it.

[The easy road? Did he just say she was trying to take the easy road? Rinoa stared at the screen in shock as a mixture of hurt and rage stirred up in her stomach.

How dare he! Just... How dare any of them! What'd they know anyway? They weren't even from this world! They didn't know what life was really like here, how things had always been, how they probably always would be.

They didn't know how terrifying it was to know that the entire world could turn on you at any second if the knowledge that they were a sorceress got out. Didn't know how much she worried about the fact that her very presence could endanger her friends, Garden, and everyone who lived on it.

Who were they to come in and tell her that she was taking the easy road out? There wasn't anything easy about how her life had become! People shouldn't be talking about things if they didn't understand them!

The mixture of emotions translated quickly into hot tears and she shakily wiped at them with one hand before typing in a quick, rather cryptic message.]

You wouldn't understand.

Perhaps not, but we're all willing to make the effort to do so. It's a start in the right direction.

I'm probably being far too optimistic for my own good, but it's better than the opposite.

I'm sure you all mean well, but you're not even from this world! There are some things that offworlder's just won't be able to understand the way people from this world do. And there's no way that people would listen to offworlders, who for all they know could be a bunch of sorceresses and knights who want to take over the world for themselves.

[She'd never thought that world would cross her mouth, but here she'd typed it twice in such a short amount of time.]

You don't seem any better than those who treated Katara so poorly...whoever you are.

[Tut, tut Mitsuru. You told Marco that you'd practice an extreme amount of politeness and courtesy if you encountered this person. Better dial both of those things up a bit.]

There is hardly any use trying to argue your point, everyone wants to believe that this world is as wonderful and beautiful as their own-- which is probably hypocrisy for every world has their problems. It's useless to get upset over it and whatever you have to say is better left unsaid.

I understand the need to make the best of your element - doubtless the Garden pool is no more fullfilling to you than the admittedly spacious interior of this building is to the flyer in me. When seen from such an angle, 'tis my good fortune that no native caught me indulging.

Though you will no doubt be penalized for your error in judgement, I am aware that you merely unearthed a lingering suspicion and prejudice that already existed. No doubt this will cause much struggle and strife, yet all changes carry such things.

I guess the best thing you can do is show people you don't mean any harm and do your best to ignore any mean comments. At the same time, I think some people are bothered by...well. Abilities that can't be taught. If you couldn't waterbend and had never heard of people being able to control elements, maybe you'd be scared at first, too.

But you're welcome to waterbend at Fight Club anytime you want.
