Docked in Dollet - OPEN to everyone in Garden

[At 0900 hours, the announcement bell chimes and once again a voice much more youthful than the Headmaster's begins to speak.]

Good morning, inhabitants of Balamb Garden! This is your pilot Nida speaking. Now that we're docked in Dollet, it's time to get our vacation on! That's right - everyone's free to leave Garden and stretch their legs. Hyne knows I will! [He sounds so eager and can't help but give a little laugh.]

Please remember to stay safe while exploring and don't go getting into too much trouble! Oh! I forgot - curfew. I know I know. Not something you want to hear, s-sorry! Anyways. About that curfew. Good news! All cadets are given an extra half-hour in which they must return to Garden for the remainder of the night. Instead of having to check in at 2300 hours, curfew for this week is 2330 hours.

Don't worry though. We'll be here all week! Plenty of time to sight see and whatever else you want to get done.

Have fun, everyone! Maybe we'll bump into each other.

[The announcement ends, and the intercom clicks off.]

[Mod note: Here's the kick off to the week of vacation for the cadets! For those who are unfamiliar with Dollet, information about the city can be found here. Students are free to roam around the city or keep within Garden if they so desire. The second term will start August 1st-- until then, it's vacation time!

[While it wasn't exactly the Moonlight Bridge, the little bridge in Dollet had a charm of its own all the same. And unlike the bridge in Iwatodai, Ryoji wasn't going to be run over if he decided to stop and watch the people go by or admire the scenery.

It might have been a little out of the way, but it wasn't like he couldn't take his time in exploring the city. The Garden was overwhelming enough as a new experience without having to exhaust himself cramming everything about Dollet into his head in short order.]

I wonder where I should visit next?

[An older man is nearby and catches the question. He looks over and shoves his hands into the pockets of his jacket.]

You ain't ever been to Dollet before, have you?

[A little surprised that someone suddenly started to talk to him, Ryoji nonetheless turns to answer the question directed at him.]

It's my first time. Is there any place you'd recommend?

That depends on what you're looking to do 'round here.

I like to do everything as long as it's fun.

Well then. There's the beach. Young folks enjoy it I hear. I just go to listen to the water. [He waves a hand.] Old folk stuff an' all that.

[Idly making a stroll around the city, Minato is passing by the little bridge when he notices two things: Thanatos stirring inside his mind, and a familiar yellow scarf.

He stops and turns to look at the people on the bridge. Sure enough, there's someone there who he honestly wasn't expecting to see.

He walks toward him, hoping that he didn't come here to get his answer.]

[There's a faint feeling stirring at the back of his mind, almost like there was something calling to him, that made Ryoji turn around curious as to what it could be.

Now there was a surprise that he didn't mind seeing.]

Minato-kun! I didn't expect to see you here.

[Minato's face is neutral, though he tries his best to look pleased to see him as he waves at him.]

Hey, Ryoji. Did you just arrive here?

[Happy to have a friend here, Ryoji doesn't examine Minato's expression too closely and hurries over. Besides, Minato's always been fairly neutrally expressed.]

Yeah. Maybe a day or two ago. It's some place they've got, and it's supposed to be a school! It's kind of hard to imagine.

Anyway, how long have you been here? Is there anyone else with you?

I know what you mean; just when you figure they just design buildings differently here, you find that the place is mobile. At least you won't find out because someone messed with the controls.

Me? I've been here for three months already, as well as Mitsuru-senpai. Ken-kun showed up a few weeks ago, too.

I can't wait to see it actually move. Unfortunately, I arrived after it had already docked. Still, it gave me a chance to explore this place as well.

Oh, Mitsuru-senpai's here as well? That's something to look forward to. Maybe I'll ask her to explore the city with me, what do you think?

[Here, Ryoji has to stop and think about who Ken is before he remembers.]

Oh! He's that elementary student that lives in your dorms with you, right? I'm afraid I don't really know him as well as you do, but I'm glad for you at any rate.

It'll probably move back to Balamb after vacations, so you can see it in motion from the Quad when that happens.

Just don't put the moves on her if she agrees - you still remember about That Thing We agreed Not To Talk About from Kyoto, right?

[He pauses for a moment, realizing that, thanks to Time Compression, this Ryoji might be from before the Kyoto trip.]

Yeah, that's him. By the way, I don't suppose someone explained to you what that Time Compression thing is about?

You'll have to show me around then. I'm lucky if I can find my way from the room they assigned me to the cafeteria with only getting lost once.

[At the mention, Ryoji winces and gives an embarrassed chuckle.]

Right, lets not have a repeat of Kyoto. I think one execution was enough for any lifetime.

[Shaking his head 'no,' Ryoji adopts a curious expression as he answers verbally as well.]

That's the first time I've heard of it. What is it?

I certainly will. The real trick is figuring out how to use the Directory, though - everything else falls into place after that.

[Minato blinks at the mention of the Execution, since he's sure they had - barely - avoided that Fate, but lets it slide.]

You'll probably hear about it more in classes, but basically, some Sorceress joined all points in time together in order to get Ultimate Power from all Sorceresses in history, and got beaten by the SeeD Commander and his friends. Problem is, while time got decompressed back to normal, there are some aftereffects around, displacing some people through time... or through other worlds, like what happened to us.

I'll be looking forward to it then, Minato-sensei.

[A genuine laugh of amusement as he teases Minato lets him miss the moment of confusion on the other's face.]

... I see...

[Well, no. He actually doesn't quite get it yet, but Ryoji thinks he understands the gist of it at least.]

So we're here because of something like...um...a sticky ripple affected us due to some people wanting more power?

[Minato can't resist laughing along at the teasing.]

Something like that, yeah. That ripple effect drags along people from other times, other worlds, or both. Senpai is from two weeks before I got dragged here, and Ken-kun is from six months or so afterwards.

...it's a bit hard to grasp unless you've seen enough scifi movies.

Guess I haven't seen enough movies then. Maybe I should have watched some with Junpei-kun instead of playing video games all the time.

[Interesting note about everyone being from different times though. Now Ryoji is curious.]

What was the date for you then, Minato-kun? It was December 1 when I came here.

Junpei's more into action movies anyway. Maybe you should ask Fuuka for recommendations when you get back.

[Minato breathes a little easier now, and his features a little less neutral and more friendly. Good, so Ryoji is from before the full moon.]

December 31. You missed out on a hectic month, man.

[The architecture is enough to draw Mitsuru over to the bridge, as well as what she might see from the new viewpoint.

Although, of all possible things, she wasn't expecting this person. Not by any stretch of the mind.]

"...I'm becoming certain that nothing will shock me any more."

[She finally announces that, after giving her a moment to stare and blink.]

[The faintly familiar voice makes Ryoji turn his head to see who it was that had spoken. Now it's his turn to stop and blink.]

Wow. Mitsuru-senpai. I wasn't expecting to see you, though you're still as lovely as ever. Care to join me?

"Under the present circumstances...That would be the best way to exchange and gain information."

[Although she is not going to enjoy one minute of it. No sir. B|]

"...You also seem well enough, considering the circumstances."

[Both here, and where they left.]

You certainly know how to flatter a guy.

[A teasing chuckle, but inwardly Ryoji is cheering. SCORE! Time with Mitsuru!

And circumstances? What circumstances?]

I'll admit to still being a little lost, but I'm sure I'll get used to things soon enough.

"...Fair enough."

[Followed by a long, awkward pause before Mitsuru shifts her stance, so her arms are crossed and her posture shows that Serious Matters are about to be discussed.]

"I'll be to the point, in order to make this swifter for both of us. Have you elected to enroll in Garden as well?"

[A nod to the big blue structure in question, just poking above the roofs where it's docked outside the city.]

"And more importantly, is such a thing safe for you to do so?"

Why wouldn't it be safe?

[Ryoji's head is tilted to the side in confusion and his hand comes up to rest over his chest in an unconscious gesture.]

I mean, I know it's a military academy and everything, but surely it's not so dangerous as to avoid enrollment altogether?
