[At 0900 hours the next day, there is a sharp knock on the door. Billy stands with his hands folded behind his back, hiding the fact that he was tugging his uniform into place a few seconds earlier.]

Come in.

[Some days the Commander wonders if her entire life is boiling down to pushing papers, and then pushing aside papers to talk to people in her office. Ah well. She does the latter, folding her hands on her desk.]

[Billy steps inside with even steps, closes the door as quietly as possible, and promptly stands at attention.]

Good morning, Commander. What was the matter you wished to discuss?

[commanderzabala]

At ease. Please, sit.

[She motions to the chair across from her desk.]

I have an assignment for you, if you're willing to take it.

[morphitudinous]

Thank you.

[Billy sits, careful as ever to keep a straight and professional posture.]

What's the nature of the assignment?

[commanderzabala]

Garden needs someone who is able to build and modify weapons and armor based on current as well as newly-developed designs. We cannot rely on Esthar or Fishermans Horizon forever, and we need to make certain that students and SeeDs who are accustomed to technological levels higher than swords or projectile guns have the equipment to perform their best.

[morphitudinous]

[This is not quite Billy's serious face. This is Billy's similar but slightly happier seriously trying not to smile face. He knows the situation is...well, serious, but the challenge is something he's wanted for quite a while.]

Understood. Are there others on the project?

[commanderzabala]

I haven't assigned any, but I expect you'll need additional support. If you want to form a team for this, you may select up to three people, two of whom must be SeeDs. I do want at least one person prepared to take over your position directly if you can arrange that, in case of Time Compression.

[morphitudinous]

I'll do it. You'll have a report of our plans and attached reports of anticipated material costs shortly.

[commanderzabala]

Excellent. Your compensation will be a one-rank increase as soon as I have that report, and an additional increase for yourself and each member of your team once you've achieved a major success in arms or armament production.

[morphitudinous]

Thank you, Commander. If that's all I need to know, I'll begin the recruitment process.
