[ Action: Front Gate ]
[ Shiro could only guess when he would arrive... and with limitations put on communication, he couldn't really phone ahead to announce his return. The weather was fair enough for a stroll outside, which worked in his favor since he was carrying something which looked like a brown shopping bag cradled in one arm, and a shotgun case slung over the opposite shoulder.
There was no hiding his age at this point: far too old to be a student, so he must be either a SeeD or instructor. But he seems to be approachable enough: his expression isn't fixed to a scowl, and his pace is calm. Wherever he's headed, he's not in any rush. ]

Welcome back.
[There was a touch of relief and a little nostalgia to his tone--as if he still wasn't entirely used to the idea that his father was really alive and well here.]

[ Despite that it was some feat to balance an armful of groceries in one arm, Shiro scooped up his son in the other giving a tight hug. Hope none of Yukio's friends were around to see that! ]
Your old man can hold his own.
[ Shiro steps back and lets go, digging around in the bag. He removes a bottle of mineral water, as he'd figure his younger son would start to get surly without something that reminded him of home. ]
no subject
When presented with bottle of mineral water, though, he cracked a smile. Trust his dad to remember to get him something like this after a long trip.]
Thanks. [He glanced down at the bottle for a moment.] Where did you go this time?

[ Shiro patted a heavy hand upon Yukio's shoulder. ]
All work and no play! How 'bout telling me what you've been up to while I've been away?
[ A thought had occurred to him, and his expression visibly changed. ]
Hey, hey. Tell me. The new term didn't begin, right?
[ It was bad enough that he wasn't sure, but he's yet to actually work out a lesson plan for either of his classes. ]
no subject
It's starts on the tenth. [A pause and a smile.] That's just enough time for you to work out a lesson plan, right?
no subject
What are you talking about? I've got that stuff half done.
[ He allowed the gun case to slide from his shoulder. ]
You wanna do your old man a favor?
no subject
What is it?
[Somehow, Yukio gets the feeling that he doesn't exactly have a choice here.
--Not that he'd say no in any case.]

[ Shiro never had a personal computer of his own. He'd used them for work only so often. But! He did purchase a computer for Yukio's schoolwork! So, he assumes his son is something of an expert. ]
no subject
That's fine. The computer systems they use here are more basic than the ones we have back home, so it shouldn't be that bad.
[...Hopefully.]
Let me know when you have time.
no subject
I can always rely on my sons!
[ Shiro also hands over the guncase--there's a shotgun inside. ]
I've gotta run a quick errand, would you also drop this off at my room?!
no subject
But you just got here. You're not leaving again, are you?
[He hasn't even had a chance to mention Rin's arrival yet!]
no subject
[ Shiro looks up for a moment in thought, and then returns his attention to Yukio. ]
How 'bout dinner in my dorm, huh? I wouldn't mind sitting down to a family meal.
no subject
And well, if they're talking about family meals...]
If we're eating together, make sure you ask Rin to do the cooking.
no subject
You said, 'Rin', right?!
no subject
The one and only.
[A smile appears and spreads on Yukio's face.]
Would me saying "nii-san" be better?

no subject
[The grin on his face falters for a moment.]
Hopefully, the real thing will be able to convince him otherwise.

Hello there, m'dear! Are you trying to find something around here?
no subject
N-no, that's okay...
no subject
If you insist, I'll be around!
[ He waved, starting to walk toward the front gate. ]

But seeing his old man, walking around, carrying some weird bag, acting like nothing had changed, knocked his disposition on its head. Rin was left staring, in a mixture of guilt and shock as he stood all but frozen outside the front gate. He won't say hello and he won't move closer to the other, but he's not looking away.
It doesn't even occur to him, how luckily habit kept him from leaving his tail out in the open. ]
no subject
Rin, you're...
no subject
Too soon. It was too soon for him to be faced with this kind of dilemma. Not but a few days ago he was locked in a cell wondering why his father had chosen to let him live-and now here he was standing in front of the man.
As much as he wanted to turn around and disappear though, he couldn't. He was consumed by a mixture of not wanting to blink and have his father disappear from his life again, being unable to face the maze of emotions that raced through his being, and wanting only forgiveness for what he'd done. A ballsy prick would demand answers to the horrid question that haunted him in his prison cell, but Rin only wanted proof that he wasn't hallucinating. ]
You're-- it's not--!

He could feel his father hugging him, much like he'd done when he'd lost control of himself in preschool, and the other times he'd needed a form of comfort like this. At first all Rin could do was stand there frozen, unable to kick his brain out of the shock it was thrown into, but in a matter of moments he'd start moving. Lifting his callused hands against the other's shoulders: whether he was trying to push the other away or simply hold onto them was up for debate, but Rin didn't let go.]
no subject
[ Shiro's not going to let go, not for some time anyway. He has his fair share of regrets, but he won't let those spoil this reunion. His hug tightens, quietly choking out a few words: ]
Both of you are here.
no subject
...dad.
[But Rin wasn't known for holding back what he was thinking.]
I-I'm sorry I'm such a fuck up. [ At least he's starting to return the gesture, and cautiously hug the old man back.]
no subject
You are not, don't be sorry about that.

I guess... [ It was still too unreal for him.] Is that what's in the bag?
no subject
no subject
I...Well it's not like either of you could make anything decent. [Tsuning was a great way to cope with the shock he was still drowning in.]

What all did you get?
