(sixth miracle) training center; not so miraculous now!

[Oh look, it's a battle maid in the training center, facing down a Grat.]

Mikuru BEAM!

[Instead of the usual eye laser, the Grat is suddenly showered in rose petals. Mikuru wrings her hands, puts one hand up to her eye, and tries again.]

MIKURU BEAM!

[The Grat shakes off the rose petals and starts shuffling towards her. Mikuru gives it a look of terror, pulls twin pistols from the tie of her apron, and starts shooting. She's improved dramatically in her time at Garden but now it's like her aim's regressed to her skills two months ago. The Grat starts backing her up. Help! Or don't; that's fun too!]

[With Ramadan over, Robin's free to patrol the Training Center again! He's a little out of shape - since he's been out of commission for the past 30 days - but he's doing a pretty decent job for a guy who relies mostly on his physical skills.

Of course, when he heads over to defeat the Grat with his fist... his hands don't really connect. A burst of wind immediately squishes the Grat against the wall. Damian can't help staring at the remains of the monster before reluctantly turning his attention back to Mikuru.]

You alright?

[Mikuru takes her own moment to gawk at that Grat, but then she shakes her head.] I can't use the Mikuru Beam...

[He tilts his head to the side. Mikuru... Beam...?] Your superpower, right? That's... really weird.

[Shelke slowly comes together into view, formally vapor in the air. In her hands her EM Sabers crackle with electricity. Darting forward, she whacks the grat once, sending it flying.]

Do you require medical assistance?

Yeah... [Mikuru hangs her head.] I just get these silly flower petals instead... Though I guess it slowed it down more than the sparkles would have.

[Mikuru lowers her guns, impressed by those sabers.] No, thank you, I'm not hurt... I'm just not fighting like I usually do. [Her frustration with this fact shows on her face.]

Sparkles...? What, do you just shine at your enemies? [Robin snorts, though he's not really believing this.]

I bet that went over pretty well.

[She pouts.] It hasn't happened in a fight yet but lately I keep making things sparkle.

[Clearly she's in a bit of a tight spot of trouble. Seifer remembers her, kind of, how she apologized hastily about something like ... spilt soup before hurrying off...

Whatever. Right now that doesn't matter.

As the grat goes to swipe at her with its vines, that's when Seifer strides forward and brushes past her to block with Hyperion. He knocks the vines aside and charges the grat, burying his gunblade deep into its belly. Seifer Almasy wins. The grat shudders on a dying shriek, vines flailing and that's that, it's dead and gone.

Flawless victory.

Why he's come to help her out, who knows. It gave him something to do!]

[Mikuru gawks as he makes quick work of the Grat. She had been terrible with the bladed weapons she'd tried in WTR 101, especially the gunblade. Heck, she doesn't even particularly like close fighting, even after her self defense and boxing classes. But soup guy handles both with ease.]

What is wrong? Are you ill?

[He hasn't officially started his martial arts classes yet--that's next semester--but Zak has had some general fisticuffs experience, and that's what he's going to fall back on here. And most likely the noise he makes will get the Grat's attention--before the fist to its ugly mug does.]

Hey, are you all right? Let's get out of here! [As said Grat is really only dazed, unless Mikuru's bullets had more of an effect than he'd thought. When they're in a better spot, he can ask questions. And Zak does, more concerned than condescending.]

Do I wanna know what happened there?

[Her eyes widen; Mikuru had not considered this possibility.] I hope not! It's just my powers aren't working...

That is highly troubling. Maybe you should go to the infirmity.

[Mikuru shifts her pistols to both hands, not wanting to put them away just yet but at least getting her fingers off the triggers. She sighs.] I've got, um...

[While she usually doesn't have much of a problem telling people about her powers, she has not yet told anyone native to this world. But she likes Zak, and hopefully he, also affected by time compression, will not judge her for it.]

I've got special powers... Usually... They're not working right now; I just keep getting either nothing or something silly that keeps happening around me lately...

[Mikuru nods.] I think I will!

[Seifer waves away her thanks.]

I didn't do it to save your sorry ass if that's what you're thinkin'-- [Yeah right. He totally did it to save her.] Just means you owe me now.

[He takes a moment or two to think about that. Well, the Headmaster's a nice guy, and he was taking people in to protect them, too. And Zak thinks that Mikuru is pretty nice and sweet...she wouldn't hurt anyone. But then he scowls just a little.]

Were you checking to see if they came back then? Or just hoping they'd work? You could've been really hurt! Why are you here without backup of some sort then?

[Mikuru nods vigorously.] I'll make it up to you as soon as I can!

I didn't know until now that they weren't working! I brought these-- [she holds up her guns, in one hand, because that is what I meant to type last tag, I am a moron] --but I think they might go with my powers a bit: I can only use my powers and I know I usually shoot better when I'm wearing this. [With her free hand, she indicates her costume.

[And then her eyes find the ground.] I took boxing and self defense this quarter, but I panicked. [No one is more disappointed in Mikuru than Mikuru herself.]

[It's a look of relief that crosses his face, then. At least Mikuru is okay, right?]

Well...you didn't get hurt, just frightened. That, you can recover from. I don't think I get all the power interactions, though. [Junctioning was so much simpler. Wait until you discover you can't Junction right now, though, Zak!]

I just don't want you to get hurt, okay? It's not like I'd mind coming down here with you if I don't have class or something, you know. [Which is as close as Zak can get at the moment to admitting that yes, he actually kind of likes you, Mikuru.]

[Not that Mikuru notices this. What a nice guy Zak is! She inclines her head in thanks.]

That would be great! It would be good to practice with a partner instead of just on my own, I think. Especially right now.

[It's probably for the best. Zak wouldn't know how to react, other than turning into a tomato face if she *did* notice...]

Okay, just let me know. Leave a note on my door or something, I don't know. Though we have a break after finals. That'll be nice. I could use a break from studying...

[Not that he'll actually take much of a break, but still.]

[Mikuru nods.] Me too! I've been so busy lately, first the carnival and homecoming and then studying... I'm really looking forward to the break.

Did you hear that someone's organizing a beach trip? I'm pretty sure it was on the BBS recently, but if you've been busy...

[Well, she might not have heard. There is no self interest here whatsoever, not at all. He's just...being helpful, yeah!]

It's bring your own food and stuff, but I've already started getting things together for it.
