Greetings, everyone. My name is Raine Sage, and I'm a returning Instructor who just finished a very educational and quite fascinating study of ruins around the globe. I'll be teaching World Geography, so if any students have questions about the class, please feel free to let me know. If you want to see a slide-show presentation of my trip and my collection of artifacts and other historical objects, please feel free to ask! I'm one of the faculty members staying in Fisherman's Horizon, so keep that in mind if you'd like to see me in person.

Zelos, thank you for keeping touch with me. I'm sorry for not returning your latest letter, I was busy packing. Did I miss anything important?

[ Raine is hanging out at the Quad, with some weird... "artifacts" and stones laid out on a blanket. A lot of it looks understandably like junk, but Raine looks like she is in heaven. Just staring at them makes her seem happy. She looks quite busy arranging, rearranging, and examining the different objects. Maybe she's thinking of putting them up on display? ]

This is marvelous... simply marvelous! Real stone from the Tomb of the Unknown King! I wonder if being around the Brothers has imbued it with Earth properties...

[ Let's be honest here: She looks like a madwoman, the way she's staring at the stone in her hands. There's other crap all over the blanket: A stick of metal that looks like staircase railing, a piece of a broken vase, some broken bit of machinery and it's difficult to believe that any of this could be considered valuable. Still, maybe if you're a bad dude enough, you can approach her and ask about it... ]

A stone with earth properties.

[There's a man who's taken the opportunity to rest against a nearby tree. Icons notwithstanding, he currently does not have any tattoos (although the pointed ears are still there). He's just watching, unimpressed.]

Congratulations on your find.

[He's also being sarcastic.]

[ Fenris is just jelly of her cool looking stone... ;_; Anyway, Raine seems ready to defend her weird collection of stuff to the death. ]

I see you're not that fascinated by how some objects can be enchanted with elemental properties due to their proximity to Guardian Forces and other factors, but I'll be more then happy to give you a lecture about it.

[ it's time to LEARN!!!! ]

The demons' magic seeps into everything around it and taints it forever. That's what you're saying.

[ She is silent for just a moment, before gesturing to the stone again. It has a close place in her heart, you see. ]

Yes, I guess you could put it that way. As a researcher and an instructor, I'm naturally interested in studying phenomena like this. If you're not interested in that, then I'd be more than happy to talk about the history of the Tomb of the Unknown King.

By the way, I'm Instructor Raine Sage. I've just returned from Garden after a year-long trip. And you are...?

[The guarded anger in his expression starts to dissipate into thoughtfulness instead. She's not going to object and leap to Garden's defense like most other people he talks to here? Huh. Imagine that.]

I am Fenris.

[A curious tilt of his head, as he considers her introduction, then offers up a guess.]

You were Colette's professor?

[ Regretfully, this is not the first time Raine's ability to use magic has been called into question... But she looks shocked once Colette's name is spoken. Fenris isn't someone she recognizes, so the only way he could know Colette is... ]

Yes, I was Colette's ... No, I am Colette's professor. Is she here? What's your relation to her?

[It's not even the first time Fenris has called it into question, and he's never even met her before. He's unfair like that.]

I've met her here, in Garden. She once aided me in battle.

[A beat.]

She speaks highly of you.

[ /sob it's okay Fenris, you are Colette-approved! ]

I see. She must have arrived while I was out... And I didn't hear about it. [ Raine looks to the distance with a look of ... something on her face, but she turns back to Fenris soon enough. ] I'm glad she was able to help you.

[ Raine nods, smiling when Fenris mentions how Colette mentioned her. ]

Colette is always doing her best to help others. I'm glad she's doing well, but I feel awful that she's been here and I wasn't even aware of it. Have you been keeping contact with her, or did you only meet once?

We've met a handful of times, but I haven't seen her in some weeks. No doubt she'll be glad to see you.

[A faint frown.]

I would have expected no more of Garden than to keep you uninformed. I doubt they care much for the bonds of friends and family.

[Fenris isn't sure which Colette would classify Raine as--it's hard to tell with that girl.]

I would hear of the Tomb of the Unknown King, if you'd tell of it.

[He's still not sure what to make of this woman! But he's willing to listen to her a little longer to make up his mind.]

[ hasn't seen her in weeks? Now Raine is looking even more worried... but it's Colette, and the Colette that she remembers is a strong girl who is more then capable of taking care of herself and knowing that her life means something. Totally. Ayup. ]

I'm not surprised Garden didn't inform me, as it'd be difficult for them to realize we have a friendly relationship, but ... Well, no, it's nothing. You're right, I don't think it's really a priority for them either.

[ While she does want to look for Colette ASAP... this guy actually wants to hear her talk. *A* She cannot deny a student who desires knowledge! ]

Alright. First, I should give you some background knowledge on the Dollet Dukedom. As you can tell by the name, the city of Dollet itself is the remnant of this empire, but in its prime, it extended all the way into modern day Galbadia. That is why the Tomb, which is the resting place of the last emperor of Dollet, can be found near Deling City. Now what is especially fascinating about this is...

[ Raine goes on... and on... She starts talking about the structure of the Tomb, the unique waterwheels and how they are mechanisms to protect the inner sanctum from grave robbers, and when records of the Brothers living there started popping up and oh my lord, how does she know this much. ]

[In this case, it's less a commentary on Colette than it is on Fenris's lack of sociability--but Raine, of course, has no way of knowing that just yet.

He listens to her. Or he tries. He's genuinely interested for a fair while, even! History is something that appeals to him, even if he doesn't really understand--or trust--those who go to such extremes to research it. But somewhere between the waterwheels and the talk of dates, it starts to become too much, and he interrupts.]

Why such interest in a world that isn't even your own?

[ Fenris is made of strong stuff. Lesser men flee at the sight of Raine's lectures. Surprisingly, she doesn't seem too irritated by being interrupted by that particular question. ]

To be perfectly honest, I was doing some research to try and find a way to leave this world. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a world that isn't my own.

[He considers this thoughtfully for a moment.]

You may have more sense than it seems.

[It's a compliment. Really. But...]

It isn't?

[ Don't worry, unlike some people she knows, Raine can tell compliments from insults... Usually. ]

Well, it doesn't seem like this world's scientists are in a hurry to figure anything out.

[ She nods. ] Yes. The world I'm originally from is connected to another parallel world. There is a way to travel between the two worlds... Two, actually, that I know of. I was hoping I would find something similar, but I haven't been successful yet. Then again, if it were that easy, I'm sure a way would have been found by now.

Oh, it's nice to see other instructors popping up. My name's Aya Brea and I teach Limit Break Theory here now. I hope to hear more about your travels at some point, they sound pretty cool.

[A cynical little snort.]

I'm sure they're eager to lose their new recruits.

[He hesitates a moment, eying Raine appraisingly, then seems to decide something.]

You are the first I've met here dedicated to finding a way out of this world. If you have need of my skills in this goal, I offer them to you.

[The stone in Raine's hand sparkles with colors it does not even possess as Mikuru approaches, curious to hear about something connected to the GF she learned about in class. Recognizing the sparkles, she sighs.] I'm sorry, I don't know how to stop that...

[ Raine just smiles a bit, glad she was able to steer this conversation away from what could have been a disaster. As an Instructor, she can't really shrug off others hating her when she has to keep Garden's reputation in mind. But it's nice to also have the support of someone who also wants to get out of here. ]

I'm sure many others feel the same way, but I believe if there's a way in, then there's a way out. And thank you for the offer, Fenris, I'll be sure to keep it in mind. [ She pauses for a moment. ] A friend of Colette's is a friend of mine, so feel free to come to me if you need any help.

Now, would you be interested in hearing about the rest of my findings? [ There's a sparkle in her eye when she turns to look at the other stuff she was lying around... ]

[ The sparkles really pique Raine's interest. For a moment, she looks really excited, until she hears someone apologize for it. It seems like the sparkles came from someone else, not the stone itself... CLOSE ENOUGH. ]

No, it's alright. Actually, would you mind telling me what that reaction was? I found it fascinating.

[ She's looking at the girl with such hope in her eyes... ]

[Such hope that Mikuru feels awful that she is about to crush it.] I'm sorry: I don't know... It just keeps happening around me lately...

[ Raine almost looks thoughtful. Another student with strange phenomena occurring around them? Something is up. ]

Is that right? Hmm... When did you start noticing the sparkles? And what sort of objects did they appear around?

I would not call her a friend.

[His mouth twists downwards; he's had that conversation before, but with Colette herself.]

And I'm uninterested in your dark magics.

[A pause--]

Then it's true. In your world, elves and the elfblooded are also the mages?

[He could not sound more bitter.]
