[ Making their way from the Garden Lobby to the Fisherman's Horizon inn are a boy and a girl, each with a course catalog tucked under their arms and matching confused faces. Their bodies are turned into each other slightly, enough to let onlookers know that they're friends. The girl's eyes keep darting about, whether in amazement or sheer surprise is difficult to tell. The boy looks warier, shoulders hunched, stooping like a silver gargoyle over his companion. At some points, the girl rushes into the fancy shops, leaving the boy alone on the street, his eyes snagging on every pooled shadow.

They're probably going to get epically lost. Help them out?

Ah--as a matter of fact, I'm an instructor. [ Aerith taps the catalog. ] Magic and Sociology 101. Don't break any rules, I'd hate to have to write you up. [ She giggles a little because it's Kairi and really, she doubts Kairi is a troublemaker at school. ]

You both got here... [ She looks at Kairi's friend again, her face friendly but curious, then brightening as she realizes. ] You wouldn't be Riku, would you?

[Riku walks slowly behind Kairi only halfway, content to watch her greet her other friend from a distance. It's good to know that she's made other friends since Sora and him had been unable to in the past year.

Although at Aerith's question, he bridges the gap between them, nodding as he came closer.] I am. Has Kairi told you about me?

[ A laugh. ]

I'll do my best, but I can't make any promises. Magic, huh?

[ Riku walks up at that moment, and Kairi grins up at him. ] Are you kidding me? Between me and Sora, Aerith knows all about you! [ Don't worry, Riku, they didn't bust out the baby pictures. ]

Oh, she's told me this and that. [ She says it with a lightly teasing tone, smiling at Kairi when she gives her own answer, and adds on: ] It's true, Kairi wasn't the only one talking about you. You're just that popular. Nice to meet you, Riku. [ She offers her hand to shake--he looks like the more serious sort. ]

And yes, magic. That class is required, by the way.

[He bows his head and looks almost a little bashful.] Probably my whole life story, huh? Guess I might just have to return the favour for you and Sora.

[He smiles and reaches over to give Aerith a firm handshake.] Nice to meet you too Aerith. I doubt I'm that popular. These two just can't keep quiet most of the time.

Just don't mention the thing about the shark, and I won't tell the paopu jam story. Okay, Riku?

[ Trust her on this one, Aerith: you don't want to know. Kairi turns her focus back to Aerith. ]

They let you teach here...? You didn't need any special qualifications or anything?

[ Aerith looks amused at the exchange, then tilts her head thoughtfully at Kairi's question. ]

I graduated. That's a qualification. [ With everyone coming and going in Traverse Town, "qualifications" were kind of "take what you can get"--so she's glad Garden doesn't make a huge fuss over special qualifications. ] Because of how Time Compression works, I've been here for a while already--well over a year.

[He's trying not to outwardly groan at that.] I won't, I won't.

Sounds like they don't ask for very much or anything specific. [At least not like how the teachers on the islands were.]

Over a year?

[ Kairi's expression droops. ] If we could only use our Keyblades, I'm sure we could find a way out.

Ah--people don't just stay here. They've left, too. Leon was here, but now he's back in Radiant Garden. [ Which makes her sad because she missed him completely when he returned to instruct here, but right now it's more important to reassure Kairi. ] I happen to have stayed longer, that's all.

[ She shakes her head at Riku. ] They really don't. Headmaster Cid is a very kind and understanding man. They just want people to be willing to learn, or help out where they can.

They leave? They didn't exactly tell us that. [He looks to Kairi for a confirmation. Not that he didn't believe Aerith, but he's never been fond of others retaining important information.] Is there any known reason for that?

No, they definitely didn't tell us that.

[ Her gaze, when she turns it back to Aerith, is determined. Help people? Kairi is all about helping. If she can make a positive impact in people's lives, count her in. ]

We'll help. Right, Riku?

[ Not exactly expecting him to argue with her on this one. ]

No. [ The answer is said firmly, which might seem unusual, but she goes on: ] It doesn't happen often and it doesn't seem to have a pattern. No one has any idea who will leave or when. If Leon had known, he... would have said something. [ Left a note, given word, something... ]

Ah... [ Her expression eases when Kairi says that, and she lightly clasps her hands. ] That'd be great. I'm sure you'll both be a great help.

You two were close, huh? [He pauses for a moment, almost grimacing at his next thought.] Could it be possible that he left or disappeared by force?

[He quickly smiles and gives a nod.] Yeah, we'll do what we can to help.

Leon and Aerith lived in Traverse Town together. [ Kairi supplies this as background information, before continuing. ] I think if he'd been taken by force, she'd know.

[ Looking at the older woman. Right, Aerith? ]

[ She nods to Kairi and then looks at Riku to answer his question more fully. ] If he was taken by force, there would have been signs of it for the staff to notice. And I trust the staff here. They've done nothing but help us, and now there are a number of people from other worlds who are a part of it.

...But this is a lot to take in all at once, I know. I'm a little surprised you two are looking at the course catalog already!

I suppose that is true. It's just strange to think of a world that can pull people in and then suddenly spit them back out to wherever they came from without notice or reason. [He's sorry, Aerith. He's just skeptical.]

Yeah. We thought we'd give it a look over to more some more about this world.

Exactly. It never hurts to be prepared, right? Besides...I already did plenty of window shopping! [ A laugh. ]

[ She doesn't blame Riku. She had a smidgen of skepticism when she arrived, and she's sure Leon had a whole bucketful. She'd rather ease others over the skepticism, though. ]

There's some kind of reason to it. The problem is figuring out how it works.

[ But her attention is perked by-- ] Window shopping? Did you see anything good?

[ She might be thinking of something... ]

[He chuckles a little at Kairi's well placed distraction.]

Should I leave you two alone then if you're going to go shopping, or am I going to be dragged along for the ride?

We're not going to drag you anywhere, Riku. And yeah-- [ turning back to Aerith ] --there are a lot of cute clothes! I guess we have to get the shopping out of our systems while Garden's docked, huh?

We'll invite you, though. Yes, this is the best time to do it! Once we set off, there won't be any chance to shop until our next stop. [ And she might want to spoil Kairi a little, it's been so long since she last saw her. ]

[ Kairi gives Aerith a wink. ] I dunno about that, though--Riku's allergic to clothes shopping. It's really bad, too! All it takes is one little price tag and bam, he just breaks out in these hives...

[ Giving the look that says he's off the hook re: girl time. Kairi wants to spend the afternoon getting reacquainted with an old friend. ]

Hehehe. I know some price tags will do that to anyone... Well, I wouldn't want to make you feel sick, Riku. I hope you don't mind me borrowing Kairi for a while?

[He eyes Kairi a little.] I only get hives because someone keeps finding the most expensive things.

[Riku nods to Aerith though. At least Kairi should be safe with her.] I don't really. Thanks for the invite though. Just make sure she doesn't drag you into too much trouble.
