[Squall still hadn't quite grown accustomed to this Garden of the future. It was strange, all the different faces in a place that was... ... ...well home, for lack of anything else. He'd missed a lot. Still he was part of Garden and he just had to get used to it. ...If he could get over his natural anti-social tendencies. He didn't really talk to people much of his own volition, but he'd been walking around more than he might have if this were the right time period, noticing things, matching faces with ranks and just getting a general idea of who all these people were.

Today you can find him in one of three places as I shamelessly rip off Japan's log format yep:

A You see Squall in the Quad, examining the Home Ec class's garden. At least until he gets too close to a certain tree and a flock of birds take flight, diving straight for him. Yes that is your Commander covering his head and trying to get away from a swarm of angered animals. No there's no dignity today.

B You see Squall in the Garage. He's looking over the latest cars Garden's acquired, hey he likes cool things what can he say. Goes with the belts. Too bad it'd be a total abuse of authority to take these out for a joyride...

C You see Squall in the Training Center, taking out some grats with a frown on his face. Hey the Commander's got to stay in shape too! It's really convenient Time Compression brought his gunblade along, he'd hate to have to ask where present Squall's is. Or present Squall is in general. ...He seriously hopes present Squall isn't dead or something, wow maybe he should stop thinking about this. Back to taking out those grats.]

[Oh Squall, that's so special. And yeah. Marco is just gonna be over here talking the birds out of attacking Squall (FOR NOW -- remember that if Rinoa ever cries again, there will be bird attacks. SO MANY.) and then with a few chirps from Marco, gives them some bread and lets a few perch with him while he goes to talk to the Commander. You missed it Squall, but Marco's done entire D.C. rounds with a bunch of birds perched on his head and shoulders like it's the most natural thing ever. Really, it's a wonder more people at the Garden don't think he's the biggest freak there.]

Commander. [Polite nod.] You might to switch your shampoo. They seem to have taken offense to it. [He means this politely, really.]

[Squall rolls his eyes, looking away. Why do people always talk to him like he's stupid? The things they say... If they don't say what they want from him, how is he supposed to know? But that's something for later. He'll just ignore this, for now.

Instead he looks at the tree the majority of the birds flew back to. He didn't think pets were allowed in Garden, but maybe that rule changed. Either way that's not his problem.]

[Shakes his head no.]

I don't keep pets. [And he really doesn't.] They just keep the Garden as still a garden. I was rather surprised by the variety here though. Usually it'd be impossible to get this many types of birds on one island where I'm from.

[...] Originally there weren't so many. After the Garden began to move around we found a lot of animals stayed with us after we left an area.

[Which could be something of a headache, but the pros to mobility outweighed the cons.]

What's your world like?

[Tilts his head. HUH. Squall, you officially suck less at normal human interactions than Seifer. When someone is being nice. Damn it. Marco doesn't want to be nice. OKAY FOR RINOA'S SAKE!!]

All ocean. There's islands and all, but each one is a lot more specific and diverse than the places where the garden lands around here. And even though my family traveled a lot, it'd be impossible to really take the wildlife with us. The species develop specific techniques to survive the extremities of that area that aren't really well equipped to handle elsewhere.

I guess in a strange way, you could say my world's a lot more wild.

[He thinks about that. Then this must be really different for Marco. He isn't sure if that'sa good thing or a bad thing. Thinking about it... For a time he's quiet, lost in his own thoughts, a little weird in the middle of a conversation, but he has a tendency to get wrapped up inside his own head. Rather suddenly:]

I'm sorry for this.

[Time Compression. Pulling Marco away from his family. It was hard to imagine his actions had such far reaching consequences. Maybe... he should have asked more questions in Esthar. He'd just wanted to save Rinoa... But in doing so he's caused a lot of trouble.]

[Arches his eyebrows so high.] What are you apologizing for?

[Rolls his shoulders in a shrug.] Don't get me wrong, I miss my family more than I can ever explain, but at least here I can learn some things to better protect them. Back home, there's a war I have to fight and this might be an edge that helps.

School in my world is a luxury. Not one afforded to pirates. Headmaster Cid is really amazing for taking us all in like this, eh.

Garden's always been like this. As long as you're willing to put in the work there's a place for you here.

[He does think about what Marco said though. He wonders... Everyone he's talked to about Time Compression seems to feel it's a good thing they came here. ...he only hopes he can make certain they never have cause to feel any other way.]

[...] I'd like to think even if Garden hadn't offered to take everyone in the me of this time would have done something.

[He doesn't know what, but there has to be options.]

I don't think that's something worth being concerned about, eh.

Things you might have or would... just worry about the future and the things you can do now to better it.

[Easy for Marco to say. What if he can't do anything now to make it better? The only thing he can do right now... well not much. Paperwork, try to get to know everyone. It's a pretty sad effort.

But he's not going to say that because that'd be stupid and whiny, he is a big boy he can handle his own massive insecurities FFF. Instead he just nods.]

We'll fix this.

[Which just brings up even more problems, but he won't share those either. I swear he should teach overthinking 101. Anyways he's quiet again and then:]

I asked Rinoa.

[So Marco can stop with the PA every time he sees Squall or something FFF]

... No offense Commander, but I'll save the gratitude on fixing it for when it happens.

[Still, he lets the conversation shift rather than explain his sudden extra bristly attitude and tilts his head.]

There is more to that, right?

[Like, why she was so much less than happy when Marco last saw her.]

[Fff he doesn't expect Marco to be happy about it. Words don't really mean anything. Marco can have his own reasons, but as per usual Squall will just take everything on his own shoulders and fail at basic communication. Anyways wow what is this asking for details shit DOES HE LOOK LIKE HIS NAME IS SELPHIE...]

...She was mad.

[So. Yeah. ...Divine the details sob.]

Walk me through this Squall. [Woops, dropped the title of respect again. Oh well, Marco will never be very good at that.]

[Actually... if people want information from Marco they tend to have to ask extremely specific details as well. So he knows exactly the questions to ask.]

[That's okay no one calls him Commander in the game either... It weirds him out when people here do it FFF anyways what is that question even]

She wants to go... Or at least to spend good times with you. So before she got mad, what got her mad -- and if you don't know that, what was the line of conversation at that point in time?

[Runs a hand through his hair and siiighs, figuring out how to explain this.] When you say it like that, she hears that that is the only reason you would ever ask her. [Pauses and stares intently at Squall.] Do you want to be with her? [YEAH that personal and blunt thing? Here it is again. Because he doesn't know how else to get through clearly to this guy.] If you don't... She's already accepted as much. If there was... someone else you'd rather do such things with after all... then I apologize, I rather heavily misinterpreted that.

[At least he didn't imply that it was destiny or say her name, because he came close.]

[...] Why don't you tell me what happened first.

[He never had to go around proving himself like this before. Before he just had to say what he really felt. But now... that doesn't seem to be enough anymore for some reason. He doesn't get it.]

I never got your side. Just the paper's... and Rinoa's. So I don't know all of it.

There was a dance about a year ago, after which the papers all reported about you and the now Lt. Commander Trepe dancing -- and from what I understand from Rinoa, it went quite a bit further than that later.

Seeing everything unfold almost identically, I was worried and you seemed -- [Narrows his eyes thinking it over.] I want Rinoa to be happy. And if you can't do that, if you've always felt like that towards Trepe and just needed the right moment to act on it, then don't force yourself to be with Rinoa to make her happy, it won't. If you value the same things she holds dear then I'll help you, but only then. Che. I apologize for not asking before.

[He... actually looks a bit lost. He doesn't understand. Was no one going to say anything? And what the hell did "quite a bit further" mean-]

And no one was going to tell me?

[Snorts.]

And who do you think would have?

Gossip column comes out all the time, most of it is exaggerated, frankly who you do what with wouldn't matter to me at all if it weren't for Rinoa. Everyone else I think just stayed clear of it.

So you gotta ask yourself, is that what you want?

[He actually slashes his hand vehemently through the air, of course that's-!]

...When I went out into space all I could think about was Rinoa! I don't ever want to be with anyone else!

[omg don't call him on how juvenile he sounds Rinoa makes him like this w;A;w well Marco can but sob he can't help himself.
