[Squall still hadn't quite grown accustomed to this Garden of the future. It was strange, all the different faces in a place that was... ... ...well home, for lack of anything else. He'd missed a lot. Still he was part of Garden and he just had to get used to it. ...If he could get over his natural anti-social tendencies. He didn't really talk to people much of his own volition, but he'd been walking around more than he might have if this were the right time period, noticing things, matching faces with ranks and just getting a general idea of who all these people were.

Today you can find him in one of three places as I shamelessly rip off Japan's log format yep:

A You see Squall in the Quad, examining the Home Ec class's garden. At least until he gets too close to a certain tree and a flock of birds take flight, diving straight for him. Yes that is your Commander covering his head and trying to get away from a swarm of angered animals. No there's no dignity today.

B You see Squall in the Garage. He's looking over the latest cars Garden's acquired, hey he likes cool things what can he say. Goes with the belts. Too bad it'd be a total abuse of authority to take these out for a joyride...

C You see Squall in the Training Center, taking out some grats with a frown on his face. Hey the Commander's got to stay in shape too! It's really convenient Time Compression brought his gunblade along, he'd hate to have to ask where present Squall's is. Or present Squall is in general. ...He seriously hopes present Squall isn't dead or something, wow maybe he should stop thinking about this. Back to taking out those grats.]

Then maybe you should show it a little better! [Oh, he's going to stop him all right. ENJOY A PHOENIX ON YOUR FACE COMMANDER. At least he resisted the urge to kick him into a tree... because that took most of his self control.]

People can't just assume these kinds of things! Instead of telling me, TELL HER! [Blue flames EVERYWHERE. Don't worry, they don't burn or hurt. Actually; they should even feel a little bit soothing and emotionally healing, which Squall could use about now.]

[Lmfao wait did he just turn into a bird on Squall, LOL HOW SHOULD HE EVEN HANDLE THAT... or the flames or the- well actually he's in RINOAAAA mode, he can process that all later sob. He actually shoves Marco out of his way though he stops.]

[He just. Stops. And instead he just lets himself collapse to sit on the ground. Damn it... He doesn't understand. Why are things like this?]

[That's more to himself than Marco.]

[Jabbers at him in phoenix. DO NOT ASK WHAT HE SAID. It was mostly a bunch of bird swears and there might be like EVERY BIRD EVER turning their heads to this right now. But that lets him blow off his own steam so he sighs dramatically and sets down next to the commander. He finally switches back into human with ridiculously huge wings, not showing off, those are his SHIELD.]

Maybe the words just get tumbled wrong when you say them. It's not unusual. Hell, I do it all the time with Grell. [Slowly fades the wings out.] Granted she's got trigger setting on extremely high. [Glances at him sidelong.] Rinoa... deserves the best. The only reason I offered help was because you seemed every bit that loyal this time around.

And loyalty I respect.

[AND BY EXTENSION, the lack thereof... he does not.]

[But he's not the best. Even he knows that, how sad FFF. But he doesn't say anything, just thinking. He doesn't want to be with anyone, but Rinoa. Rinoa's the only person... He promised.

After a time he stands back up.]

Thanks for telling me. [... ... ...] I don't go to the social events if I can help it.

[Asking Rinoa to one is a clear flag someone else told him to. Anyways if that's it he's just going to go, he needs to think about this...]

Then create your own event. If you hate dances that much, you should ask her specifically so that you will have something to enjoy there. And you should make sure that is the message she receives. I'm not a fan of balls either, back home, I only crashed them for information or when I had to. They still serve that purpose. You're going to be there anyway, might as well give you both a reason to find something good in it.

[Sighs and backs off to let him leave now.]

[...That's taking it a bit too far. That actually gets a rather dead-eyed look from Squall.]

[You know what? He doesn't mind if he does. Because everything Marco's said about him has been wrong. He doesn't even know who the hell Marco is.

[Okay, so it was something Marco actually meant to tell Rinoa better, but he was frustrated that he's been trying to say it since December and failing to get through. Go to the source? Not that this works well since of course Squall can't remember, and probably didn't mean it the way she took it, but Marco's of the attitude of "fuck it."]

[There is a very long pause. No he shouldn't have hit Marco. Honestly he doesn't even know where he stands in this future world. Is he the Commander or is he something else? All he seems to be is a name everyone can make a big deal out of. The things he says don't even seem to matter. It's not like anyone's listening.]

[Checks the blue flames. WHOOPS. Getting punched without purposely bracing to not burn them will do that. So he forces them to fade, he probably deserved some of the pain anyway.]

[Rubs the back of his neck.] Just because it's something I hate doesn't mean -- [No wait. He DOES still think it's Squall's fault. So his eyes narrow.] I keep meaning to judge you on the things you do now not back then, but I'm letting myself get too clouded.

[He's not going to apologize and if Squall goes to smack him again, he'll try to block with talons, but he's not fighting back. Alternately Squall could be like "lol no idiot, the flames, not your talking -_-'"]

[LOL he didn't even question when Deling's body double turned into a zombie... I-I dunno man VIII's pretty big on the "DON'T THINK ABOUT IT, DON'T ASK QUESTIONS" l;sdafj he'll probably just think it's weird and never mention it LMFAO. Sob he's a real putz.

But he'll sigh and let the tension out of his body, putting a hand on his hip.]

I won't do anything to hurt Rinoa. I'm not clear on what happened or why, but it won't happen again.

[His face goes a bit blank though, unreadable as always.]

That doesn't mean I'm going to discuss everything we do with you.

[Seriously he doesn't even know Marco, the only reason he said anything to start with and didn't walk out was because Marco obviously cares about Rinoa. At this point it's just getting creepy though.]

[Because honestly, the more he knows, the more crazy he gets. And even Marco knows that much. It's the fine line of helping and knowing tidbits that just make it confusing. At some point, being in the dark is preferable. And with Squall, Marco's beginning to think it always will be.]

I just hate seeing her upset. Date, dance, whatever. I don't have any personal investment beyond not wanting to repeat the exact same past, understand?

[He spreads his hands and tries about fifteen ways internally to explain what he was saying about Rinoa feeling like she has to catch up. Nothing works right so finally...] If you know her worth, it shouldn't be a problem, but knowing it and acting on it are different. She needs to know it too. That's what I've been trying to say. The past has affected in a bad way I think. And it's not something I can teach her, I'm hoping you can.

[SLIGHT hesitation, at this point with anyone else, he'd make his exit, but he figures he owes it to wait to see if Squall has anything else to ask or respond or... another punch.]

[LMFAO I'M SORRY MARCO he can't share his dere that's a Rinoa only thing... But he crosses his arms. He's not mad. Just... reminded how much this isn't his Garden, his time. No one knows him here ~~seriously where the hell is future!Squall lmfao~~.]

[He tilts his head and actually gives Marco an understanding look.]

Most of this I'm already aware of.

[Blinks uncertainly. He was going to say he couldn't bring himself to trust Squall at all initially, but that's... a very trustworthy thing Squall just said. So he bows his head in acknowledgement.]

Then I apologize for the unnecessary repetition, eh?

[Wow, Marco apologizing. There's a rarity. Enjoy it while it lasts Squall.]

If you still want help with her or working out some of what happened, or more Time Compression side effects, let me know. Otherwise I'll be a closed book. [That relaxes Marco at least. He hates shoving things down someone's throat. He'll do it, but he much more prefers sitting back, giving laissez faire advice and then telling people he told them so if they don't take it. No really.]

[The best part right here: Squall won't even hold a grudge over this. ...Sob he totally is like whatever now that it's over, idk if this is horrible or what. He nods though, he does want Marco's opinion on things, he's a part of Garden too. Just. Not on his love life.]

If there's anything else you think I should know I'd like to hear it. I know I'm behind everyone regarding the situation here.

[Marco wouldn't have focused on the love life thing except that Squall homed in on all things Rinoa and Marco mistook it and was like "Eh all right, let's focus on that first." orz. Mostly he takes some issue with Squall's commander fail, but in the past, whenever he tries to talk to him about it, it doesn't get anywhere.]

Hm... [Sidelong glance. This doesn't add up... so he'll just try and take it as a new commander coming in and being lost, aka advice he gives to ALL new commanders in his crew. Yeah, he can work with that.]

I said this before, but try to listen to people. Sometimes they say stupid things, but don't dismiss it. Whether the words get garbled over the intention, the truth still lies in there. Right now, a lot of people won't like you. That doesn't make it permanent, it just means you're in a bad position and like you said, they don't have reasons to trust you yet. Show them why you're trustworthy and they'll follow you. Don't underestimate the otherworlders. A lot of us might pretend our powers are only for good and some of us might even be better at keeping them quiet, but good, bad, or out of control: give them a goal and they'll accomplish more than some people without training. And some people here really do require specific goals. Leave them to manage on their own and they'll get restless and more likely to act out. [Like... himself. Oops.]

You seem to already trust the people here pretty well, which is good, but they need to know it. Not just why they should trust you, but that you're already giving them that back in return. Like how you promoted Lt. Commander Quistis, but on a grander scale. And it doesn't have to all be promotions, I mean showing the cadets that you have faith in them to take charge of the future. Things like that.

Anything else, I'll need specific questions.

[He raises a hand, shaking his head. He already knew this, but... he'll just have to make a greater effort at it. Which will be hard when he's not even entirely comfortable here himself, but. He'll just have to manage.]

[Not that he really thinks Marco would 8| but you never know. He does want everyone to know they can talk to him though, for whatever that's worth...]

Though he turns to leave now, pausing with a small wave.] Oh, and if you run into more bird trouble... [Tweets sharply and several birds scatter off.] Just get them some real food as a peace offering.

[He just watches Marco walk off like a loser. He has a lot to think about. He does glance at the birds though.]
