[Yeah, he totally saw her eyes drop to look at his blade. Oh my. Another snort and Seifer shakes his head.]

[She leans a little back, shuts her eyes, and begins to practically recite.]

The Hyperion gunblade, although somewhat longer than the comparably-classed Revolver-style gunblade, has very few comparisons to conventional weaponry. Although in many ways the Revolver-class blade can be compared to an archaic two-handed or hand-and-a-half sword, the Hyperion model shows a distinct divergence from the philosophy of sword replacement that originally guided the creation of the weapon models. Hyperion has a pistol-grip that has a substantially more acute angle to the blade. This leads to a grip which allows full extension of both arm and blade while maintaining a straight wrist. In addition, despite being slightly longer than a Revolver-class, Hyperion remains narrow for much of its length, but tapers out into a broad curve near the grip. This means that Hyperion is balanced much closer to the grip.

Unlike Revolver, Hyperion is intended to be one-handed, but as a lone weapon. Hyperion remains a large and relatively heavy weapon compared to Dragon-model gunblades, and requires a free hand for counterbalance and maneuverability. Hyperion is a very versatile model which can deliver hard strikes with the full strength of the user's back and shoulder muscles, precise strikes with control of the tip, or brutal close-in cuts with the sharpened curve at the base of the blade.

Seifer cocks a brow, staring at her openly for a few seconds and then quietly snorts. He then begins to slowly applaud her, it's a lazy type of clapping but yeah-- impressed. He is that.]

I-I started reading it right after the SeeD exam. There was a lot about them for a while after everything. And then later Captain Kartany was teaching me how to use weapons, and he knew a lot, and I think he actually asked some other people who knew more about them so he could tell me about them...

I-I like gunblades, sir. A lot.

[Seifer looks her up and down again, taking in her appearance. Definitely a girl all right... but her knowledge of gunblades actually does surprise him, but he wonders if she can live up to actually wielding one.]

[Also her forearms look like she can crush coconuts. A side-effect of sword training.]

Not -- yet. I can use swords! I trained with them. I only got some gunblades just before I left Dollet. I need to learn them.

[The real thing. As shamed as she is to not be good yet, thinking about that, and the fact that she's here, and finally has a chance, makes her forget that embarassment. Her eyes focus on a point far in the distance.]

I am going to be good. I am going to train and practice and study and fight for it.

You might end up good but I doubt you could beat me-- no one can. [A lie - Squall is probably the only one who he views as his equal on the field, and if Squall put his mind to it, Puberty Boy might just actually be able to beat him one-on-one without his posse around to back him up like earlier.]

[Maria grins. And this particular grin is astonishingly feral.]

Maybe not, sir, but someday I'll make sure you have to work to back that claim up!

[Now he's going to laugh in her face; who the hell does this girl think she is? Squall was one thing, Zell another, but this one? SNORT.]

[She folds her arms, smiling. Of course he'll laugh! I mean, really, why wouldn't he? But she's set herself a goal, and she is going to do it.]
