[Tuesday, Jan 11th, Lunch, Cafeteria]
[Luke is in the cafeteria, with the translating collar thinger stuck to his neck: it seems to do a pretty good job of telling others what he is saying, but isn't much help as far as Luke barely understanding any English so far.
Still, he is good spirits, and happy to be free of classes for a little while. He'd only arrived last night, and was late getting to all of his classes today, so he hadn't had a chance to meet anyone, really.
With a tray of food in hand, he looks for a place to sit, or people to talk to. Or maybe just people to listen to. To listen at? Ugh, stupid English.]
((OOC: Mingle intro post for Luke! Also if anyone else wants to be hanging out in the cafeteria for their own purposes, go for it! All are welcome.))

[Which is to say, Luke spots someone who looks like he might be lonely, or at least bored, and gathers up his courage. Inwardly recognizing the irony of getting nervous over finding a table to sit at after all the legitimately crazy and dangerous stuff he'd been through]
Hi. Is it okay... if I sit here?
[The translator at Luke's neck repeated his words, causing a slightly awkward wince from Luke at the foreign sounding echo]
no subject
What? Yeah, of course. [Gestures helpfully and kicks the seat out to make it easier.]
New here?
no subject
Thanks! Um... I can't understand much of what people say yet, but it's nice too meet you. I'm Luke.
no subject
Marco. [Makes sure to make his words as clear as he can to give Luke time to get used to them.] Nice to meet you. Welcome to the Garden.
[Sorry for lateness, got eaten by life]
Thanks, this place is really nice. Are you uh... from... here?
[Luke still wasn't sure what the name of this planet was, but he at least had guessed that a lot of the cadets weren't actually from this world]
No problem, welcome back~
Different world, eh. I'm from an ocean called the Grand Line.
Thank you! <3
[he'd learned that word while crossing one, but how could someone be from an ocean?]
Sorry, I thought you said you're from an ocean.
anytime XD
It's how my world is divided up geographically. [Since he's using foreign words, he's also trying to be helpful with hand signs, and divides up sandwhich on his plate into fours.] 5 oceans in my world, and this one, [draws the imaginary line with his knife across the middle of the sandwich.] Is the Grand Line. Crosses through the others dividing them up.
[Because ooc we don't know what the planet/world is called and ICly, Marco just calls that ocean his home.]

One thing, however, continues to not add up]
So... everyone lives in water?

[Mostly seems to be speculating to himself, repeating the words in English, then in his own language:]
Boats?
no subject
Ships are big boats. Islands are small bits of land surrounded by ocean.

Getting up she walks over and waves at him cheerfully.] Looking for a place to sit? You can sit with me if you want.[Of course in true Rinoa fashion, she doesn't exactly wait for an answer before pulling him towards her table. Welcome to the whirlwind, Luke, enjoy the ride and hope her charade guessing skills are better than her listening skills are.] You're new right? My name's Rinoa.

[Luke does not exactly mind being dragged around, and doesn't resist much, but he's more than a little surprised to find someone so eager to get acquainted. Since he had arrived on this planet people had mostly kept their distance.
And then she is talking to him, and Luke blinks at her for a few seconds before sorting out 'new' and 'name' which were words he recognized.]
Hi... [The translator as his neck repeated his words in English, Luke still hadn't gotten used to that] I'm Luke. N-Nice to meet you...
no subject
Oh. Guess I hadn't considered that you probably speak a different language. [This fact doesn't bother her though, who cares? Since when was talking super important? Because if it was the be all, end all of things Squall would have way more problems than he already did.]
Luke, huh? Nice to meet you. Have you been here very long? [She waves cheerfully to cement the whole 'nice to meet you' concept before sliding back into her seat. Really Rinoa should be thanking him. She'd almost been tempted to pull out a math book and do some homework over lunch and who wants that?]
I'm sure you'll learn the language soon enough, everyone seems to do a pretty good job of picking it up. Apparently we've got some really good teachers here.
no subject
As it was, he had no idea what she'd asked, though he could tell from the tone of her voice that there had been a question.]
Sorry... [Might as well start there] I can't understand much yet, I only got to this planet a few weeks ago, and well... learning a totally new language is hard. Um, you said your name was... Rinoa?
no subject
I've never tried to teach someone before, but I'll help you if you want? How hard can it be? I've been speaking this language all my life.
[Fortunately for she's not really expecting him to understand most of what she's saying. So long as the I'll help you part gets through she'll be more than happy.]
[Sorry for lateness, got eaten by life]
[Luke blinked slowly at hard, he caught a few words that sounded familiar, but not many of which he actually knew the meaning to, and all together he couldn't figure out any idea of what she'd just said. He gave up and hung his head with a sigh]
Sorry.
Hey, life happens. S'cool. We've all been there.
Apple.
[A very basic, to the point "This is what we call this here" that hopefully might get the point across better than a long speech. If not she'd have to start naming other things at random and hope he caught on sooner or later.] Really, she's probably not the best candidate for a teacher position of any sort.]
no subject
Apple.
Thanks.

[She smiles at that, really brightening up with cheer. Why hadn't she just done it that way to begin with? So this of course shall continue until she's named everything at their table and then probably some of their surroundings too
but mun is way too lazy to actually do so..]no subject
sorry for the tldr, WON'T USUALLY GO THAT LONG.
Luke looked behind him, wondering if maybe the glare was meant for someone else but he was the only one in the line of the gaze.
Now, Luke was used to the locals here not exactly being cheerful toward him. He figured that went along with being alien to the world, and was willing to endure it.
But this was a little something extra. Actually, it was a little familiar. Not quite as hot a glare as he usually got from Asch, but close enough that Luke was panged with nostalgia.
And it was that pang that convinced Luke to head over to the cranky guy's table. If he was anything like Asch, Luke wanted to know him]
Um... excuse me, [A pause while Luke waited for the translator to spit out his words in english] but is something wrong?
ITS FINE o/
Would you rather I state the obvious or can you figure it out on your own?
[Sorry for lateness, got eaten by life]
Sorry, I can't really understand what you're saying. But you look like you could use some company, can I sit here?
no subject
If you must.
[Guess no one warned him that he wasn't exactly the most likeable guy around.]
Are you that desperate to make friends?
no subject
You want to be friends? Sure! Nice to meet you.
no subject
Never said I wanted to be friends. You're the one that seems insistent on getting to know me.
I'd say nice to meet you, but chances are you'll be avoiding me soon enough.
no subject
Hey! Looking for someone?
[Sorry for lateness, got eaten by life]
Hi. Uh... sorry, I can't really understand you.
it's fine!
Are you new here?
no subject
I just arrived today.
no subject
no subject
Sit with you? Sure, thanks. What table?

no subject
So, what's your name? I'm Luke.
no subject
It's nice to meet you, Luke. I'm Aang. So where are you from?
no subject
Your food will get cold if you continue to stand there.
[Sorry for lateness, got eaten by life]
Hey. Sorry, I couldn't understand you, but.... can I sit here?
Absolutely, please excuse mine D8
