[Tobias has mostly been keeping to himself, his studies, and his family lately. With everything that's happened, he's really just wanted to introvert for a bit -- at least as much as he can with the people he cares about. But all this time, a question has been nagging at him. Bothering him. He's certainly not the naive child he was before, but some things he simply can't seem to understand.

Which is why he's turned to Garden for help.]

What makes a bad person "bad?" Is it when they hurt someone? Or destroy something? Or is just thinking about doing that enough to be bad?

And... why do bad people do those bad things?

[This is what he gets for adopting a son who was already pretty grown up. Only Marco's father lucked out! Marco's Pops didn't have to explain these things!]

[Of course that meant Marco had a pretty screwed up education when he did learn things. Not that being a pirate surrounded by 1600 brothers and nurses wearing pink and leopard print helped.]

[And gosh darn it! He was going to do better by his own son!!]

[Just as soon as he figured out how to do that.]

Well, first you have to realize that humans don't usually lay eggs.

[That's a good start, right?]

I mean, phoenixes might, but Grell's kind of a death reaper, so neither of us are actually only human, but we kind of are, and when we have sex it's mostly human...ish.

Do you want to know how sex works, kids and babies work, or why you don't have siblings, exactly?

Because they're sort of related, but different. All of the above maybe?

[Tobias just pokes at a couple more posts and such before he heads out towards the courtyard. He's wearing his uniform again today for some reason, but he looks a lot more comfortable in it than he did at the dance.]

[Marco's just chilling out talking to a bird on his chest with whistles. Man pure birds have it easy. They just teach baby birds to fly by kicking them out of the nest when they're ready.]

[Okay, admittedly that's not easy. If Marco had to do that he MIGHT get his kids to fly, but he definitely wouldn't get them out of the nest. They would live with him forever and he is okay with that.]

[In any case Ms. Bluebird, you might be very wise about hatchlings, but Marco can't exactly teach his son about sex by kicking him into the bed with Espio. And like hell he's going to let Espio explain it either. Today is gonna suck.]

[He sits down next to Marco, pulling his knees up to his chin and waiting for his dad to start.]

[Yes, yes it does. The bird chirps and flies off as Marco thanks her and gets wished good luck.]

[He sits up cross-legged and sighs.]

You haven't taken any biology classes yet, I take it?

I'm in one right now for my specializations.

[He still looks more confused than anything else. Kid really has no idea.]

All right, good.

The females of any species, women, have eggs inside of them usually. The males, like you and me, can fertilize those eggs during sex. Fish and reptiles usually lay the eggs first and then fertilize them, but birds fertilize them and then lay the eggs.

Mammals and humans don't lay the eggs at all, they keep the kid inside them until it's big enough to hatch and then have go give live birth.

Sex isn't just about having kids though, it can be a lot of fun, but it's best to wait until you're ready and comfortable and with someone you really like and respect.

[He rubs his scruffy jaw.] Your mother and I can't have kids from sex. There are a lot of couples like that. Sometimes, because they're too old, sometimes because of an accident and something medically. It's really complicated in our case, but that's why we love you so much, eh? [Reaches out that hand and ruffles.] Because we got a chance to adopt you even though we can't have kids any other way. So you mean that much more to us. Understood?

[Tobias listens quietly, as always. He's at least a bit more quick now, so while it is... well, sort of confusing, he does manage to get the idea.]

Oh, I see. Pokemon just sort of have the eggs when they decide to mate together. When trainers go to look, it's just there.

[Yes, it flies over his head why this is, but it wouldn't be Toby if he connected the dots, would it?

He seems even more cheerful from the ruffling now, at least.]
