♥ [Action/Quad/Open] my depth perception must be off again

(ooc: I meant to post this ages ago and for one reason or another just haven't gotten around to it yet. This is backdated ~~forever and ever and ever ago~~ to after this post)

[Rinoa sits curled around Angelo in a shady, tree filled corner of the Quad, her face buried in the dog's furry ruff as she just sits and well pouts? Mopes? Sulks? Cries? There were any number of words that could be used to describe her current behavior and most of them fit. However, if someone were to look for it they'd see the tell-tale sign of tear tracks on the cadets face as well as the dampened portions of Angelo's fur ~~but thankfully not enough to trigger much of a damp dog scent.~~

Her face still buried against the dog her voice was muffled as she voiced her complaint, thinking that only Angelo could hear her.]

Why's he such a jerk?

[Maybe she had taken some things for granted and just assumed they were true, but he didn't have to be so cold about it. It was becoming painfully clear that what meant the world to her was more or less nothing to him. The more she thought about it the more it hurt and the more upset she became. ]

[Anyone's more than welcome to stop by and bother girl and dog new and old CR alike.]

[ Oh dear, we can't have a sad Carbunny! Tina was on her way to the training center when she saw the upset brunette. Puzzled, she made her way over to Rinoa. ]

"Rinoa...? Is something wrong?"

[The voice of her fellow carbunny was practically music to her ears. Looking up, she manages a small, lopsided smile before ruining the effect with a sniffle.]

Guys can be so mean sometimes! You think you understand them and then you realize that you don't get it at all. You know what I mean?

[ Um. Um. Terra fumbled, until she pulled a kerchief out of her pocket and moved to sit by Rinoa, though she offered a distracted pat to Angelo's head in greeting. Concerned, she offered the kerchief to her friend and listened with total non-comprehension. ]

"I'm... not sure. Did something happen?"

[Angelo didn't even really acknowledge the greeting, butting her head against Rinoa's with a rather mournful look.]

It's complicated. [She still takes the kerchief, using it to dry her eyes carefully.] Well, the good news is that he didn't actually sleep with anyone. [She sighs, soon clutching the poor kerchief like it was a life support line.] The bad news is he kissed her and he doesn't seem to see why exactly this would bother me.

[She sniffles again and wipes at her face for good measure.]

Which is funny since he seemed to know that I really wouldn't want to hear what had happened.

[ All of that? Goes aaaaaaaaaaaaall the way over her head. So silently, she sits beside the other girl. ]

I'm not sure I understand. Someone "kissed" someone else, and you're bothered by it? And he told you what happened, despite not knowing why it would bother you and knowing you would be bothered? If it's funny, why are you crying?

[That's more than enough to throw her out of her self pity since she's going to have to actually try and explain this properly for Tina, maybe give some examples and all that.]

Of course it bothered me. He kissed me first and I thought it meant something or I wouldn't have kissed him back!

It's not funny in the way you laugh over like a joke, funny in that it's really not funny at all which is why it hurts so much.

[She stops, a suspicious gleam in her eyes.]

You do know what a kiss is, right?

[ Yay for distractions? ]

... So it didn't mean anything?

[ A pause here, because she doesn't understand how something that isn't funny is funny in a painful way. At All. ]

A kiss? I... no, no I don't. Is it something you pass around? [ Like notes? ]

[Her innocent question causes the girl to scowl.]

It had better!

[Welcome to the ironies of language Tina, they don't get any clearer either.]

You know.. a kiss! Where someone puts their mouth on yours and you just... [she waves her hands, not really sure how to explain it. How could someone not know what a kiss was? Even Squall knew what they were!]

[ Tina recoils in horror. People attacking you with their mouths? ]

Why would someone DO something like that?

[ That's disgusting. More to the point, why would someone -want- someone to do that? She shakes her head. This is not the time for 'What? 102' ]

That's not important anyhow. I'm not sure... I still don't understand why you're upset. This person did something bad to upset you, but he told you about it, right? Even though it would upset you?

Isn't that better than lying?

[If Rinoa only knew that's what she was thinking.]

It's hard to explain really, but if it's someone you like it feels really nice.

[If this kept up she'd just have to sit Tina down with some random romance movie. That should explain everything to her after all.]

It is, I think, but it would have been nice if he actually felt bad about it!

[ Tina is fortunate Rinoa doesn't know! She also totally doesn't get it. And she'd probably think the romance movies didn't make sense too XD ]

Who's "He"? [ Another pause. ] I guess if he was bragging about it I understand why you would be upset. [ She thinks. ]

[Picture books? Rinoa's not entirely sure how you teach someone about romance though sadly.]

Squall. [She shakes her head though at Tina's comment.] He wasn't bragging. In fact it seems more like he just didn't care one way or another. Or at least I think that's how it was. It's hard to tell sometimes. [Despite how much she tried, it was impossible to be perfectly accurate at reading just how Squall was feeling.]

[ Sadly, it is not something that can be taught. :3 ]

The Commander? [ A pause as she considers Rinoa's words. ] So then you don't actually know how he was actually feeling when he told you what happened... I haven't known him for very long, but he doesn't seem very expressive. And... I may not understand everything you're saying, or even emotions at all...

But don't people deal with things like that differently? Maybe he just doesn't show it. Showing emotions is a weakness for military officers isn't it? [ At least that's how it was back home. Not to mention Terra herself wasn't the most expressive, nor was Mitsuru, and a couple of other people here. ]

[Poor Tina, so far as she's concerned then.]

The Commander. [She falls silent, listening as Tina tires to figure things out. What she's saying actually makes sense, so Rinoa falls silent to listen to her fellow carbunny.]

You're probably right. I'm probably being way too hard on him about this. It's just so frustrating though! Being a military officer shouldn't have anything to do with how your relationships are. Why can't people understand that? [Her father tended to be like that too, but she wasn't going to dwell on that particular fact just now.]

[ Tina doesn't think she's missing anything! ]

I think it's because it can be crippling, and in the middle of a warzone, you can't let your emotions become a weakness. If this weren't a relatively safe place, would you be capable of defending yourself if an enemy came across you and Angelo, as upset as you were? [ She's a bit worried about that, really. ]

The enemy can use things like that against you too. That's their job - to find your darkest secrets, seek out your every weak point, and attack it. Relentlessly. Emotions have no place on a battlefield, I think. They're too confusing. It's better to not have them, in a way.

[Rinoa would say that's because she doesn't know what she's missing so doesn't know any better.]

Would I be able to...? [Rinoa thinks about this for a moment, not that it really requires much of an answer. For the most part her powers were still running on instinct and only seem to kick in when she's in danger so it's practically the time she's at her peak.] I'm pretty sure I'd be fine. I'm a lot tougher than I look you know.

[She wasn't a weak little girl anymore, she was a sorceress who even without those powers had been able to fight alongside SeeD despite her lack of training. It hadn't been easy sure, but she'd managed.]

Not to have...[Rinoa stops, floored to hear something like that from Tina.] That's not true! It's better to feel as many emotions as you can! Each one is precious and gives you more of a reason to fight. People fight to protect their loved ones, to protect their homes, and to protect the things they care about! People like that fight harder than anyone!

[ She doesn't even know what it is! She'd rather try to figure out real emotions than worry about that nonsense. :D ]

Good. [ She hadn't been doubting her friend, but it had been a worry. If someone could be so upset by emotions, what would have happened? ]

Really? [ Hear that doubt in her voice? ] Well, if you say so... I think you know more about that sort of thing than I do.

[That nonsense is about real emotions though! Some of the realest there are! D:]

Even if I couldn't, Angelo knows how to keep me safe. [She just has to add that on, because really there wasn't much in her opinion that her canine companion couldn't do.]

But I can take care of myself, I have to. [Because Hyne knows she wasn't sure how much longer she can continue to count on Squall to always be there when she needs him.]

Really! [She nods, hearing the doubt in Tina's voice.] It doesn't matter if it's a person, a place, or an ideal people always fight hardest for the things they care about the most. They've got the most to lose after all, don't they?

[ DISBELIEF! ]

I'm glad you have Angelo here then. I wouldn't want anything to happen to you; you're one of my few friends here. [ Terra couldn't remember if she ever relied on anyone back home. At Rinoa's explanation, Terra frowns a bit more. ]

...But -- [ She ... didn't think she had anything like that. ] I ... I guess you're right. I'm sorry if I upset you...

[Maybe she'll experience them some day and then she'll see that it's totally true!]

I don't think there's much that could hurt me here Tina. Garden's super safe! If anyone was going to invade we'd be able to see them coming and the SeeDs would be able to stop them. [Her faith in her friends ability is unwavering, this at least she's confident in.]

I'm not upset. [She stands up and places a hand on Tina's shoulder, smiling at her fellow carbunny.] I'm sure someday you'll find something like that and then you'll see.
