This apparently makes them both "hot shit" and "the greatest evil known to sentient life" somehow.

I assume from the name that it's traditionally a lady-only thing.

They're always female, the only known man to have the same power was Hyne.

Makes you wonder what's so different. Extensive biological testing has shown that the only differences between genders in any humanoid species tends to be in sexual organs and nurturing instincts. Neither of those really lend themselves well to "can cast spells like a wizard ooo spooky".

This isn't about current events in the papers, is it?

The syllabus doesn't cover them in much detail, and off-worlders in particular don't really care much enough to research them. The general description of "native who can use magic naturally" isn't interesting for people from worlds where that's normal.

So, not a lot. Just a bit of history about the two Sorceress Wars.

I'll bite though, what have you learned about the Sorceress Wars?

Nope. They try to cram as much information as they can into a single trimester per subject, particularly for the older crowd.

I can't really remember my history classes. For each war it was pretty much two or three weeks on the rise and fall of the relevant sorceress. It's mostly Sorceress Adel I remember, though.

Adel was the first one, she's very dead.

It's Ultimecia you lot should be worried about showing up more than anything else.

i just took hist 101 and it was way more about the effects adel and ultimecia had on a world scale than about them personally or anything. war, kidnappings, assassinations, lunar cry, time compression, that kind of thing.

esthar vs. galbadia, adel in space, dead galbadian president, moon mosnters everywhere, seed to the rescue...

They really gloss over the details.

I don't need notes, I was there for the second one and kinda grew up during the fallout of the first.
