[It seems like another normal afternoon for Hermione; she's in the library with a tall stack of books, various textbooks and other nonfiction publications to help aid her studies for the upcoming examinations.

She's settling down in her chair before she reaches to pick up a book to open-- but when she attempts to turn the page, the paper sticks to her finger and refuses to let go. No, really-- it's not going anywhere.

When she finally yanks her finger away from the page, the book explodes into a shower of torn up pages.]

Oh no--!

[OOC: For the event, Hermione has been granted paper manipulation powers.]

The fuck are you doing?

[Well, that certainly was a rude reply. Hermione glances up at the male to give him a look that clearly shows he doesn't appreciate his swearing or tone.]

I didn't do this on purpose. It just... happened. [She's trying to gather up all the bits of paper now.]

You—seriously?

Get the hell away from those, then!

You don't need to yell. [But Hermione does move away from the paper bits and instead looks at them with a sort of perplexed expression.]

How could this have happened? A prank?

[Cid's seated several tables away, working on writing up something for his classes, and he doesn't look up until the book... explodes, seeing as that's generally a rather rare occurrence in these parts.

After a moment, he gets up and walks over to where Hermione is to help her... deal with her exploding book.]

Are you all right?

[Oh, how embarrassing-- to be caught by an instructor! Hermione flushes, but she tries her best to remain poised as her hands move to sweep up all the tiny scraps of paper.]

Oh, yes, Instructor. I'm not sure what happened-- it just... exploded.

[Cid goes to help her gather what's left of the book as well, giving her a small smile while he does so. He's not here to reprimand her, after all.]

There seem to be some disturbances in regards to people's abilities of recent--losing one in exchange for another. Perhaps such is the case here?

[Her expression changes to one that's a mixture of worry and doubt.]

Exchanging powers? But... how is that possible?

I do not have an answer for that, but I can only assume that it is somehow tied to time compression.

[He sweeps the papery remains into a small pile on top of the desk.]

[Really, Hermione is almost tempted to pull out her wand and attempt to cast a spell to see if her witchcraft really is gone, but she knows better than to do that in the presence of someone not from her own world.]

It wouldn't be a permanent change, would it, Instructor Raines?

It very well could be. [He gives her a small, wry smile.] But I'm of the belief that most of the school's population would rather that it not be.

Yourself included, if I'm not mistaken.

[Dawn happens to be in the library, too, sitting at the table next to Hermione. It was pretty silent and calm, like usual.

When she heard her roommate yelp, it definitely made Dawn jump a bit.]

H-Hermione? What happened?!

Dawn! [Hermione looks embarrassed and tries to quickly sweep at the bits of paper so they're in a tidy little pile.]

I'm not sure-- I was opening my book to study, then suddenly it just... exploded.

I see.. so strange things have been happening to you, too.

[The dead flies hovering over head can definitely attest on Dawn's part as well.]

You're okay, though, right?

[Hermione hadn't noticed the flies as she was too preoccupied with her exploding book, but the longer she looks up at Dawn the more curious she becomes.]

Yes... yes, I'm quite alright. Do you mean strange things have been happening to you, as well?

Whew! I'm glad. [smile.]

Well.. It started with just a fly. I'd swat it, but it would always come back. Then there were more flies. All of a sudden, cats, dogs, even monsters started following me around.. and they all smell horrible. You know, they smell.. well, dead. [Dawn was a little surprised Hermione hadn't noticed the smell in their dorm! Dawn must've done an extra good job scrubbing in the shower.]

[Hermione had caught on but luckily knew a spell to nullify any sort of odor, though it seems to not be working at the moment. Out of politeness, though, she's trying hard not to wrinkle her nose.]

Dead...? That's odd. Have you seen Dr. Kadowaki about it? Though I don't know if the situation is exactly a medical worry...

Just a bit. No, I haven't.. I'm not sure if she specializes in stuff like this.. but it's worth a shot, I guess?

[Out of all the places someone would expect to find Marvelous, the library was the last one.

And that's where he was because, people not expecting him to be there meant they wouldn't be able to bother him, specifically that one SeeD who caught himself and Joe. But this place was so boring to him, he ended up falling asleep while sitting at a table.

Until he heard the small explosion which woke him up and he lifted his head, blinking wearily.]

Hm?

[Hermione is trying to gather all the paper into a pile, but the movement of her hands seem to make the pages dance instead, forming a chain that was now lifting from the table. Hermione is beginning to panic just a bit, and not wanting others to see what is happening she tries her best to try and snatch the paper from the air.]

[Just watches the paper move with sleepy eyes before putting his head back in his arms, muttering loud enough for her to hear.]

Stop moving your hands.

[Oh, someone is watching? Hermione freezes which in turn causes her hands to stop-- and automatically the paper falls onto the table.]

Oh... [Hermione flushes with embarrassment; that should have been obvious.]

... Do you know what could be causing this?

[Snooooooooore]

[ Erik was walking by the tables Hermione was at as remnants of the book exploding flew past him. He hadn't expected seeing anyone lose control of themselves like that, especially not here. ]

Letting the papers get the better of you?

[Hermione flushes at the Instructor's words and she tries to clean up the mess with dignity, but the bits of paper seem to be levitating from the table now which causes another flash of panic to overcome Hermione.]

I... I'm not sure what's going on! This has never happened before. [Well, it was a bit of a white lie; little incidents like this had happened when she was younger, but that was prior to her knowledge of her magical abilities.]

It seems a lot of this has been happening recently. [ He says it calmly, kneeling down to pick up the papers that had fallen to the floor. Erik stood up, stacking them neatly before handing the straightened pile back to her. ]

Students finding themselves overwhelmed, not necessarily papers exploding. [ He adds that bit with a teasing tone. ] You don't need any help, do you?

[Hermione flushes some more at the teasing tone, but offers the instructor a small smile of thanks.]

Thank you, instructor. I think I'm alright... though I hope this doesn't happen again. [There's a touch of forlornness in her tone as she looks down at the destroyed book.]

[ He nods in acknowledgement, turning what remained of the papers over. What she says is strikingly familiar to how he dealt with using his abilities in the first place, and Erik feels slightly responsible for making sure she learns to adapt. ] You don't happen to have any idea how this started? Anything at all, including what you were thinking.

Well... [Hermione pauses as she tries to walk back through her train of thought.]

I was worrying about the upcoming finals-- if I've read enough and retained enough information so that I'm well prepared. Somewhere along the line, the book just... exploded.

[ He scoffed; there was something about her that reminded Erik of Charles. The way she dedicated herself to studying. ] Perhaps it's just stress?

Overstudying won't do you much good if you're not in shape to take your finals.

Oh, no, I think I'll be fine taking my finals! Hopefully this isn't a lasting effect; I would hate to not be able to take the exams because of... whatever this is.

[But there's a pause, and Hermione hesitates before asking:]

Is this normal, strange things like this happening due to stress?

It's been known to happen. [ He says it briefly, uncomfortable with the topic, but his tension is visible to anyone paying attention. ]

I wouldn't say it's normal however, if only because there's permanent effects. Not... [ Erik hesitates. ] something that is temporary. You don't seem like the type of person to let a distraction from taking your exams, however. Don't let it get to you.

[Hermione takes a moment to absorb his advice, and in the end gives a small nod.]

Thank you, Instructor. I do hope this isn't permanent... [After all, the last time that this sort of thing happened, it turned out to be due to the fact that she was a witch.]

There's nothing wrong with it if it is. [ He looked down at her, pitying almost. There wasn't any reason to be upset over the situation. ]

Everyone learns to handle their abilities sooner or later.
