Scenario A

[Fresh off a mission, Yukio's taking a break on one of the many wharves in Fisherman's Horizon. Seated on a rather battered suitcase, he's got a bag of supplies with a variety of bottles, flasks, and boxes at his feet, while in his lap, Yukio has a belt with a number of pouches and little vials attached--like his own version of a utility belt, really.

From the looks of things, he's restocking something or another, but what, exactly, isn't easily obvious from a distance. Sure, it probably makes more sense for him to do this in his room at the inn, but as all work surfaces are currently occupied by books, luggage, and a few potted plants, he may as well come out and enjoy the ocean breeze while he's at it.]

Scenario B

[Truth be told, Yukio hasn't had much time to work on his marksmanship during his travels. Increasing his medical knowledge had been the goal of his international journey, and while he did have the occasional opportunity to practice, he's rather happy to be back in the training center.

Having provoked a crowd of grats into following him, he stops in a clearing with his handguns held at the ready. When he starts firing, his shots are disturbingly accurate--almost as if he's predicting the locations of the monsters around him, even when they are coming at him from behind. At this rate, it won't take him long to clear out the rest of the grats around him...

Well, it looks like his skills haven't gotten rusty at least.]

Scenario C

[Teaching isn't new to Yukio, but unfortunately, he's coming in and starting right smack dab in the middle of the quarter. He's claimed a table in the library for himself and appears to be in the process of comparing his own notes to that of the previous instructor for the course. Additionally, Yukio has lists of the class rosters and several piles of texts in front of him as well.

He's frowning a bit, but whether that's because he's unhappy with something or just concentrating is hard to tell.]

You-kee-oh... Yu-kee-oh... Yuki-oh... Yukio... [ She has to say it a few times to get it right, but, eventually... It sounds like the Australian version of a Japanese name. Basically. ]

Well, if you have experience, it probably won't, huh? I don't think teaching here is all that different from a normal school... Except you're teaching about magic, and stuff. And weapons! And GFs, and...

And...

... Okay, it's kind of different.

[ butonlyslightly. ]

[He laughs but not unkindly.]

It is a very unique school, but more similar to the one I taught at than I originally thought possible, when I arrived. [He looks out at the sea, a nostalgic look creeping onto his face.] But everything is okay so long as we learn new things and enjoy our time here, right?

[He glances back over to Vanille, smiling once more.]

Well, I guess that makes it an easier transition, right? That's never a bad thing. It can be a lot to get used to, coming to an entirely new world... [ And she'd know! She's done it twice. ] Finding something similar to what you're used to helps a lot.

[ She smiles back. ] Yeah! Of course, you're probably doing less learning and now teaching now, huh? [ Oh, and that other part! ] —you can still enjoy your time, too!

I hope I can enjoy my time here as well. As you said, this is a whole new world, and even if I've already been here over a year, there is still much to discover.

[And while he's on the topic...]

What would you say is the most interesting thing you've seen or done here thus far, Miss... ?

That long, huh? [ But she knows people who've been here longer... To think, she could have been spending all of that time with them. ]

Oh, ah— Vanille! I'm Vanille.

And, um... Probably... [ Well, there was a lot, but it was mostly things she couldn't really tell him about. Her brand being scarred over was one. ] Probably Garden! It's really big, huh? And it can move...

[ She laughs. ] But, I guess there's other stuff, too. I've met a lot of interesting people! And... Well, there was the Fire Cavern, too.

[Yukio listens quietly, nodding every now and then to let her know that he's still engaged in the conversation. When she brings up the Fire Cavern, though, his eyebrows rise and a smile lights up his features.]

You went after Ifrit? How did that go?

[It's been some time since Yukio stepped foot in there, but he still remembers the awe he'd felt the first time--even if he hadn't gone in to pursue the resident located deep within the cavern.]

Well... We got him! He should be in the computer, now.

It was tough, but, everyone who went with me really helped out a lot.

[ She'd been in awe, too— at the heat. It was intense! ]

I bet it was an adventure--admittedly, a very hot one. A well-earned congratulations to both you and your team on completing the task.

[He cants his head, curious.]

Did you have fun?

Really hot! I think if we stayed in there any longer, Alistair would have roasted in his armor! [ He was already close to it, anyway. ] I don't think I want to go back in there if I don't have to... At least not without someone casting water spells over my head over and over.

[ At least then she'd be kind of cool, maybe. ]

Yeah, I did. [ She'd picked a good team, and they'd had fun, even if it was a bit of a trial. It had been fun spending time with them... And also, they totally kicked butt! Which didn't hurt. ]

...Alistair?

[Between his studies upon first arriving here and his travels after becoming a SeeD, Yukio's... admittedly a bit behind on who is who and who is doing what at the Garden. Even if he's been here longer than Vanille, it's likely she has a better idea of what's happening at the school than he does.

Still, he makes an educated guess.]

Is he a... knight of some sort?

I think so! He uses a sword and walks around in a lot of armor... [ That's a knight, right? Admittedly, she doesn't know very much about them, but, from what she knows, she's pretty sure that's what he is!

... Even though she's wrong. He's a Templar. ]

That would make him a knight, huh?

[Yukio considers this for a moment.]

...Possibly? I imagine that it also depends on what sort of sword and armor they use and wear? I believe different cultures have produced different sorts of warriors, even if they may all use swords and wear armor.

[At the very least, he's pretty sure he's not a samurai... Alistair doesn't exactly strike him as a very Japanese name.]

Really? Well... [ She looks thoughtful for a moment, pressing a nail to her lips. ] He wasn't like any warrior I've ever seen before... Wearing that might would really make moving harder to do, don't you think? You wouldn't be fast enough! But I guess at least if you can't move fast, you're still wearing all of that armor for protection.

Whatever he is, he's still pretty strong! He really helped with Ifrit! Hassan and Sazh, too. We were a great team.

[ And Snow slowly drew fire spells. It was sad and also comic relief. ]

Perhaps his fighting style arises from having to fight creatures different from what you normally do--armor borne out of necessity. I'm more partial to speed and flexibility myself though.

[He smiles at her.]

In any case, it's as you said--he seems to be quite the strong individual, if he's willing to face Ifrit in a suit of armor.

Same here! Most monsters are too fast where I'm from— if you can't get away quick enough, you'd be in trouble. If they're slower where he is, though, it probably helps him out. He can't really sneak around like that, though, can he? Too much clank clank clank...

[ She nods! ] He is! I guess... He's a SeeD, so, he'd need to be, right?

[Yukio laughs and nods his head in agreement.]

It would be rather difficult, wouldn't it? Perhaps he goes more for intimidation than stealth.

And yes, as a SeeD, he would have to be. [A pause, and then...] Speaking of being one, what sort of specialization are your pursuing?

Well, if that's the case, he does an okay job! As long as he has a helmet on. He smiles too much to be all that scary.

[ Goofy smiles, too. ]

Me? Ah— Para-Magic! It seemed like it would be the easiest thing for me to pick up.

[Yukio tilts his head, curious. Since coming here, he's seen all sorts of "magic"--some useful, some beautiful, and some downright frightening.]

Magic's a naturally occurring thing in your world? Or do you have something like the system they have here?

It's kind of like the system here— not everyone can do it, but, the spell names are pretty much the same.

Actually, ah...

[ She leans in a little, to whisper to him, smiling a little sheepishly: ]

I'm a draw point!

[Yukio just stares at her for a moment. He's genuinely surprised by her statement, and it takes a moment for him to gather himself back together again.]

And you are... okay with this?

[There's concern in his gaze now. He just asks because he himself isn't entirely sure how he'd feel about this if he could offer the same to others.]

[ Vanille glances away for a moment, thinking. She doesn't think there's anything necessarily wrong with it, and it doesn't hurt when people do it— or at least, the one time she'd had it done, it hadn't hurt! But... ]

I guess I don't mind. [ When she looks back to him, she's smiling. ] It helps out, huh? Especially since you can draw Cure spells from me...

Cure spells?

[That seems to perk Yukio's interest, if the way his eyebrows rise is any indication. He's, admittedly, not all that fond of using magic when he can avoid it, but considering his position, healing spells are of interest to him.

Whether or not he wants to bring this up to Vanille, he's... not entirely sure yet.]

That is very kind of you. [He offers her a smile.] What about the other healing sort of spells?

Yep! That's the only healing spell you can draw from me, though.

There's another spell, but, it's something else. I'm not sure what it is, actually. [ Because Snow didn't draw that one... Just Cure. ]

But it's probably something like the spells I could cast back home.

Is there no way to control or determine what spells are drawn from you?

[Considering the variety of magic-users at the Garden, Yukio can't help but wonder what would happen if someone managed to draw some powerful magic and discovered that they couldn't control it or underestimated the abilities.

At the very least, the original holders of the spells should be familiar enough to use them responsibly, but others... ? He isn't so sure about that.]

I don't know. [ She cants her head to the side, thoughtful, but frowning. She'd only had someone draw from her that once, and it had been Snow. She hadn't even known what drawing was at the time he'd done it. Now that she understood what it was and how to do it, it didn't mean she was any closer to understanding how any l'Cie had come to have magic stored inside them. She supposed maybe it just had something to do with them having such a limitless supply back home...

After all, Snow had said that they had magic to burn. And it was true. ]

I guess the only way to really find out would to be... To have someone try to draw it from me.
