[Since arriving and being interviewed, Sollux had spent the entirely of his stay at Balamb Garden curled up in his room. He couldn't sleep - not when he was so wound up and distinctively lacking a recuperacoon. But the outward world was a scary place, and he didn't have very high hopes for it. Despite the fact that his hosts had yet to actually do something terrible to him, it was nigh impossible to put the possibility out of mind.]

[But eventually he goes out, if only to prove to himself that he can and that he's allowed to. He's almost surprised when nobody stops him from leaving the dorms, and once he's to the lobby he's officially out of ideas of what to do with himself. Everyone he's seen is the same, pink skinned alien race he saw in Timber, and he doesn't feel comfortable talking to them. At least not of his own accord.]

[So he finds a slightly concealed area of the lobby and perches himself on it, watching people pass by, and trying to coax himself down from persistent idea that he should be trying to escape. It's not like he actually has anywhere to go.]

[Not that he felt very fond of it or even really the majority of his species most of the time.]

We just went into the military like everybody else.

['We.' So did that mean that all of their friends had managed to live long enough to go onto the next stage of their lives? That was quite an accomplishment, not only because of what Nepeta had to compare it to, but also because many trolls ended up being culled before then.

Yet despite the word used, Sollux's demeanor spoke otherwise.]

So. Everyone of our furriends are still around, right?

[He looked her over, frowning contemplatively.]

I haven't seen you for two sweeps in my universe. [His expression softened a bit. That was because she never got caught up in all of their bullshit.]

I think you're okay, though.

Two sweeps?! [Sure she and Sollux hadn't never been particularly closed, but he was still someone important to her. After all they had been through together, all the trolls were.

Or had been. Things had been so confusing ever since Gamzee and what he had done but aside from him the idea of not seeing any of the trolls in that long hurt a bit.]

And Equius?

[He snorted, rolling his eyes a bit. How a girl like Nepeta stuck with an asshole like that still mystified him.]

He's fine. Last I heard, the two of you stuck it out through basic training and... [didn't get marked as traitors] actually did pretty okay.

[It's true moirallegiance, Sollux <>]

[She became quiet for a moment, looking thoughtful. It was a little saddening to hear how segmented they seemed to have become. It was too much to hope, she supposed, that they had all stuck together like the family she considered them to be (and that they technically were).

After being in a human world for so long she had come to appreciate various aspects of their culture, and she had to admit that look back there were a lot of things she didn't like but the idea that they'd all be alive and together would make up for the fact that they'd eventually have to go to the military. Or that she had to worry about what would happen to her when she refused to have a kismesis, or how that environment would keep Equius from getting past the hemospectrum, or what might happen to Karkat if his blood was every fo--]

[Her eyes widened a bit, and she asked the next question a little more urgently then she intended]

What about Karki--Karkat?

[The cautious amusement he'd been showing before faded instantly.]

He survived. We helped him escape in time.

...escaped huh. [she could only assume they HAD found out from that, which would explain a bit about why Sollux was acting the way he was. Where had she been during all this? Somewhere else, apparently, and she couldn't help but feel guilty at that.]

Who all was that? That helped him?

[He stared at the ground.]

Me. Kanaya. Aradia, Tavros, Terezi, Vriska. It all happened really quickly.

[They must all be on the lam then, and now she wasn't worried for just Karkat but all of them.]

What about Fefurry? Couldn't she do anything? She always said that she wanted to stop culling---or do something about it.

[He swallowed tensely.]

The Empress wouldn't give up the throne. When it came to a fight, Feferi lost. The rest of the Empire thinks she's dead. Her and Eridan got away, but...

[Hadn't been of much use as of yet, sadly.]

[Feferi had lost, and Eridan had stuck by her side. Both of them were shocking, but she supposed that if SGRUB never happened, the two of them must still be moirails. To hear he'd turned against the Empire for her was still a little to wrap her mind around, but it made her respect him a little more.]

...I know it purrobably doesn't mean much, but I'm real sorry to hear that happened to you guys. But at least here, you'll be safe, and who knows. Maybe the other universe will arrive here some day. It seems lots of been coming lately.

[Sollux seemed a bit unsure about that.]

Is it actually safe here?

[He still didn't trust the people here, even if it was okay to.]

[she nodded]

I mean its kind of weird. Humans really are strange and even after all this time I'm still not entirely use to it. There are a couple students who also are really uppity and rude about any outsiders but they're mostly just talk. [even if it was talk that hurt a lot.]

Friska's been here fur two sweeps and she's fine...so yea. It's safe.

[He nods vaguely, actually a bit comforted by that. But then the mention of Vriska gets him kind off-put again.]

The Vriska here...is she... [He sighs, unsure of how to phrase it.] The me from you universe told me that she did some fucked up shit, and I don't know if...

[God this is uncomfortable.]

[Nepeta nodded.] She has. Honestly I used to be purrty scared of her. I don't really know if I can furgive or furget the things she has done--at least not completely but I think this place must have done her some good. She isn't how she use to be back home.

[He seemed unsure of how to handle that confirmation.]

She never did those things in my universe. Kind of weird.

[Very weird, more like.]

No? [likewise it seems bizarre for Nepeta to imagine a Vriska without those actions in her past] What was she like in your universe?

I don't know. Not like that. She wouldn't...

[He bites his lip. Even the concept of what smaller Sollux told him was painful to process.]

She was already kind of bitchy, but she was there for us.

[She sees this, and quickly tries to find some comforting words.]

It's pawsible there were a lot of other factors that existed in our world, that didn't in yours to make her do them. Honestly, I think it could really be chalked up to SGRUB as well. Even if we didnt play it till we were six, it had been in our lives and influencing some of the things we have been doing purrty much all our lives.

[it was a little hard to keep the bitter edge out of her tone, but somehow she managed.]

[Hmm. Well, Vriska has always been volatile, no doubt. But still...]

What was the point of it, anyway? It sounds like a big deal, but...why? Why do all of that?

Thats a little bit complicated...do you want to sit down somewhere? It might take a bit to explain [and she still had some questions of her own]

Yeah...okay.

[The others hadn't seemed as enthused about giving him the long version, and though he suspected he wouldn't really understand it he figured he at least needed to hear it once.]

[He moves with her to someone they can sit down.]

[The Quad is less crowded than the lobby, and has plenty of places to sit so Nepeta guides him there and near one of the fountains.]

I'll be honest I don't understand everything 100%. The ones who knew what were going on the most were you and Arawrdia I think. I don't think we really had much of a choice in playing it.

When we furst began we all thought it was just a regular game. Well, I think Arawrdia knew but...[she shook her head.] Then the meteors started showing up. The reason they began to appear was beclaws we started playing the game, and the game was the only way to get off of Alternia befur it was completely decimated.

Over the course of the game, which took us about 600 hours to beat, we learned that Alternia was as good as gone, but our purrpose was to save this place called Skaia.

[Sollux tries to listen but gets distracted almost immediately.]

Other me told me...that... [He swallows.] That his Aradia was dead. Did she die while playing?
