011 // visiting classes [open, backdated to beginning of the week]
[These kinds of things had to be done.
With the new quarter going underway, Headmaster Cid had asked of Quistis to go into some of the classes and assess them. Not so much on the material being taught, but the way instructors interact with the cadets, whether they are accommodating the offworlders and native cadets alike. Of course the instructors and cadets haven't been given a warning prior, which makes everything all the more candid.
With a clipboard in her hand, Quistis quietly slips into the classroom to watch from the back.]
[OOC: So yeah… basically for anyone who has a cadet? Perfect time to try and get instructors into trouble if they hate them. Or, you know, try and show off how perfectly wonderful an instructor is. Anyone who's interested in having Quistis explore their class just tag in noting which class it is in the subject. Classes with NPC instructors are welcomed, too! Also, I doubt she'll be doing this all in one day so it'll be an ongoing thing throughout the week. Note which day you'd like her to visit a class!]

Regardless, Quistis tries her best to blend in with the foliage in the back of the class as all the other cadets listen to the instructor's lecture. Her eyes wander through the crowd of students every now and then, and she can't help but notice a redhead who seems just a touch out of it. Perhaps the Training Center is too stuffy?
Nonetheless, the Lieutenant Commander remains quiet as she assesses the class, taking down the odd note or two on her notepad whenever she spots something worth mentioning in her notes.]

And before long, the teacher wraps down the explanation, and Mitsuru, in front of the class, finds herself as one of the first up.
Time to see if that gun is loaded or unloaded, then.]
"Excuse me, instructor?"
[But not without double checking a few things, first.]
"To clarify...We do have a choice of which summon we'll be using? And this junctioning will be...Brief?"
[She doesn't intend for that pause to be in there, but again, Penthesilea is being surprisingly active in the middle of the day. Some of those questions might even be an attempt to get that part of her mind to settle down long enough for the class to wrap up.]

Of course, Quistis also remembers the many mishaps of cadets both while she was a student and during her brief stint as an instructor. Because of this, she steps out of the bushes and closer to the group of gathered cadets, ready to assist if any problems should arise.]

The cadet ahead of her performs well enough; there's that pause between junctioning and summoning, just as the instructor said during the lecture, but not long enough to let the monster herded out close the distance. And then-
There's a flash of bright light, too bright to look at, and the faint smell of ozone in the air as Mitsuru blinks to try and clear her eyes. When the spots vanish from her vision, the insect is gone, and there's only a small pile of ashes left.
Mitsuru's hands go back to being fists as that pressure in her head starts up again, and she glances away from the summoning area. That would be when she notices another instructor standing off to the side, and tries to look her in the eye. There's a clear flash of confusion in Mitsuru's expression for a moment, but quickly gets smoothed over into a more composed look...With a hint of irritation as that headache continues to grow.]

She's looking through the line when her eyes meet that of the redhead she had noticed earlier. It seems as though she's up next. There's something about her has Quistis thinking that it will be a particularly interesting summoning practice and so she simply holds her clipboard over her lap, patiently waiting for the redhead's turn.]
Wall of action text, sorry. D:
She shifts her thoughts, makes certain there's an open part of her mind for the GF, and prepares to junction. It's like finding her balance on slick ice; difficult, but not impossible. Mitsuru can feel something begin to slide into place in her head-
And that is right when the ice breaks, and she goes falling through. Penthesilea surges up, a sudden loud presence in her mind. The Persona makes a high keening noise, echoing around her thoughts as a wave of dizziness washes over her. It feels almost like the first time Penthesilea forced her way out of her skull, and Mitsuru's hand goes to her head as her balance wavers. Her thoughts shift again, and that space meant for the Guadian Force suddenly closes off as Penthesilea tears free.
The summon is...Violent, and fast. Penthesliea moves quickly, and she can feel the temperature drop as her Persona lashes out with her sword, coating the ground around the plant with sharp edged shards of ice. Whether it's by the cold, the ice, or the fact that a sword slashes clear through the thing as the Persona tears by, it doesn't matter; the grat is quite dead as the summon fades and Mitsuru's thoughts slam back into something coherent.
Her breath clouds up as it leaves her lips, and there's still that slight feeling that she's floating...But she's still standing, and the monster is dead.]

What was that, Cadet? [Her tone was far from accusatory, and was in fact more on the worried side.]
no subject
And once she hears that instructor speaking, Mitsuru settles for murmured]
"Dieu." [instead. She also turns her attention over to her, working on shutting out any staring or murmuring that might be happening off to the side.]
"That...You see, that was,"
['This is unacceptable.' The Kirijo and least summon-addled part of her mind says. 'ESPECIALLY in the face of an instructor. Pull your thoughts together and answer the question properly.']
"...My apologies."
[She manages a slightly clearer answer, and keeps her words from sticking together that time. The little cold clouds are also slowly ceasing to form as she breathes.]
"That was Penthesilea. My Persona, and...Own Guardian, as the term applies, I believe."
no subject
I take it that you weren't expecting such a result?
no subject
"No..."
[It would probably be best to clarify WHICH question is being answered.]
"I didn't think that was capable of happening. It shouldn't be."
[At least according to the old rules, as she knew them. And whether she's well or not is left pointedly unanswered; she's not sure of it, herself.]
no subject
It's all right; you just need a bit more practice. It's not uncommon for something like this to happen to cadets in the introductory course.
no subject
[Mitsuru sounds, and looks, quite surprised to hear that. The statement, along with that left over dizziness and nausea, convinces her to sit down. There's a patch of green that doesn't look like it will leave her uniform too dusty, and her knees decide there's no time like the present to have a quick rest.
She frowns a little from her new spot on the ground, glancing up at the instructor.]
"My apologies. This is still very novel for me,"
['And it's enough to leave me very worried' her tone continues that sentence for her.]
no subject
Considering how this is an introductory course and most often a cadet's first experience summoning, mishaps like these aren't uncommon. After all, there's a reason why some cadets choose to become weapons specialists over para-magic. [It's Quistis' mild attempt at joking, trying to find some way to put the cadet at ease.]
Do you need to go to the infirmary?
no subject
"Instructor, with all respect, spell casting is my specialty. And having precise control over Penthesilea has always been a strong suit-"
[Followed quickly by the realization that may have not been the best information to simply give out. Really, this entire incident feels like it keeps spiraling out of control, with information given out far too quickly and freely, all without her input.
Mitsuru settles for a mute nod at the second question. Distance and some fresh air sounds like a good idea, even if it involves a hospital visit.]
no subject
I'll walk you to the infirmary.
no subject
"Thank you, Instructor. The assistance is appreciated."
[She can at least be gracious with taking her hand, though. Her eyes are also narrowed as she keeps thinking over what happened, so Mitsuru directs her gaze to somewhere over the instructor's shoulder. She also tries to stand up mostly under her own power, although that's negligible.]
no subject
I'll be taking this cadet to the infirmary, then. Please excuse us.

((OOC: Should I see about making an infirmary thread over in the logs comm?))
