[Garden was certainly busy today. As Mae looks around her at the hustle and bustle of cadets walking by she can see why they had asked her to return and take up a teaching position. There hadn't been nearly this many cadets here when she'd left! Smiling, she hefts her bag over her shoulder and starts to walk towards her goal, the cafeteria. After such a long trip she's earned the right to a nice warm meal surely.]

I just hope the cafeteria has something that isn't hot dogs. [While many claim they are the peak of the food Garden has to offer, she's not very fond of them.]

[Feel free to bump into her as she heads to the cafeteria, once she's eating, or even afterwards as she heads towards the dorm! A little later, once she's gotten time to hit the bbs she leaves this message.]

I'm glad to see that the Garden is doing well. It's a little surprising at how quickly the cadet population has grown while I've been away. I've heard the reports, but that's nothing like seeing it in person.

I look forward to meeting everyone that I've not had the pleasure to meet as of yet. My name is Mae and I'll be teaching Leadership 101 and Advanced Bladed Weapons when the quarter starts up again. This will be my first time in an official teaching capacity so please be patient with me. I'm sure I'll learn as much from you as you learn from me!

It's certainly good to be back.

It does have more than hot dogs actually.

[Points to his own fruitcup and salad.]

[Turning to look at the newcomer she offers him a smile and glances at his food.]

Would you believe I came in here once and all they had were hot dogs? There were quite a few of us non-natives who'd rather eat anything but them.

[She looks around the semi-crowded cafeteria pointedly.] I was worried now that the cadet population has increased it'd be even worse.

I think they increased the array of food choices accordingly. More or less. That and with the Home Ec classes, I'm sure it can't be too hard to find people willing to help cook, eh.

Mae:

I am delighted to hear that you have returned to the Garden safe and sound. Having just returned myself, I, too, am surprised by the influx of students.

I imagine that the quarter will be quite an interesting one.

Raines

[She looks completely and utterly relieved at this news.]

That's good to hear. I was beginning to think I'd end up missing even Alistair's burnt cooking at this rate if all I had to eat were hot dogs.

Being away from Garden for so long was a little worrisome, but it was nice to eat somewhere that wasn't the cafeteria for a while.

[She selects a tray that's mercilessly hot dog free.]

You must have arrived after I left on assignment, my name is Mae. A pleasure.

Raines,

It's good to hear from you again, it's been a while. Though I have heard congratulations are in order? It seems you've been promoted to Instructor as well if the rumor mill is right.

I would be just as content with a dull one. It sounds like there's been far too many odd occurrences lately. It worries me.

Mae

Marco. Nice to meet you Mae. [Offers a careful handshake.]

How long ago did you leave?

Mae:

You have my thanks. A well-earned congratulations goes to you as well. My apologies for not saying so earlier--I have been busy.

The disappearances the headmaster mentioned, correct? Yes, it is troubling indeed. It is bad enough to be spirited from one's own home once, but to be transported to yet another strange realm...

I can only hope the matter is resolved quickly.

Raines

Raines:

Sometimes manners get left behind when there are more pressing matters to attend to. There's no need to apologize.

Indeed. Time seems to be becoming more unstable as time goes by, it's starting to worry me.

Maker I hope you're right. The stories I've heard, most of them aren't pleasant.

Mae

[She shakes his hand, giving him a careful but firm handshake. For her size, the young warden has a surprising amount of strength, though probably nothing that would bother Marco in the long run.]

It has been... far too long. [She gives him a small smile as she thinks about just how long she's been in this world.] Just over a year I think? Maker has it been almost two years already?

[Not unless she pulls a Garp and punches him in the jaw with the kind of force that could demolish buildings and throw cannonballs bigger than a ship.]

Heh... sounds about right then. [Rubs the back of his neck.] I guess the sorceress has been at this a long time.

Mae:

So I have heard. Reliving times past...

Unless it is a joyfully occasion, once is enough.

Raines

Raines:

There are some more pleasant times that I would not mind going back to see. There are far too many people I haven't seen in a long while.

Still, I'd rather not take my chances. Better to not relive good memories than chance seeing some of the bad.

Mae

[He has nothing to fear. She's strong, but not that ridiculously strong. Normal human strength only here.]

It's to my understanding that there isn't a sorceress directly controlling what is going on. Merely that the world is still facing repercussions from when she did.

[Mae frowns a little bit.]

I can almost understand this fear they have of magic here and back home. It's quite similar and when you see situations like this that fear almost makes sense.

Though I can't stand the idea of punishing everyone who has magic just on the off chance that they might abuse their ability. They are still people too after all.

That might explain a lot.

[Shrugs.] In my world there are many strong people for many different reasons. Devil fruit users, giants, fishmen. All of whom are perceived as out of the ordinary and thus feared. Yet even the most basic of men can be extraordinarily strong and misuse it... and even the strongest man in the world was gentle beyond compare. He had the power to cause earthquakes and tsunamis which could destroy the world, yet he was always careful.

[Rolls his shoulders to let go of the tension and shrugs again.] The weak fear and envy the abilities they don't possess. It's easier than trusting a stranger to show them mercy, ne.

I'm no mage, so I wouldn't know. [In fact she's a half-made Templar. Someone talked her fellow Warden into teaching her his skillz. Which of course means she's more for anti-magic than magic anymore.]

The people of your world sound quite formidable. While I am unsure we have any who could do that much damage, we do have our own problems to face. Such as blood magic which can be used to control the minds of others. There's also the chance that a mage will become possessed by a demon and turned into an abomination which is also extremely dangerous for everyone as they tend to be quite powerful.

[She looks around for a table and then turns back to Marco.] Would you care to join me? It's been a long time since I've eaten so I'd like to eat while we talk if that's alright.

Hm. That does sound rough. [Frowns thoughtfully.] Then again, no one in my world is capable of messing with time quite to this large degree and bringing people from other worlds. [A pause.] That I know of.

[He nods his head at her offer and follows along.] Fine by me, eh.

I've never heard of a mage from mine who is capable of such things either. Which is reassuring as there is plenty to be dealt with as it is. [And somehow she got stuck taking care of it all. What luck.]

Thank you. [She smiles, genuinely relieved.] It would have been rude to just walk off, so it was either ask or stand here and attempt to eat while holding my tray.

Which probably wouldn't have ended very well in the end, I would imagine.

Depends on how good your balance is. [Sneaky grin.]

Good enough that I probably could have pulled it off. Not so good enough that I would have avoided making a mess. [She raises an eyebrow, looking down at her salad pointedly. It's not exactly finger food.]

Mae:

My thoughts exactly.

We'll just have to relive the pleasant memories in our mind, I suppose.

Raines

Raines:

I couldn't agree with you more.

As painful as it feels sometimes, the past is the past for a reason and it does no good to dwell on it overly much.

Mae

Mae:

Precisely.

One should always strive to improve the future, whatever it may hold. It is a place of endless possibility.

Raines

Mah, I don't blame you. It's not something I'd even be willing to attempt. I leave that to the impatient.

And rightly so. While I'm hungry, I'm not hungry enough to just stick my face into my food in an attempt to eat it.

[Finding a table, she sleeps into a chair easily.]

[Deadpan forever.]

My best friend used to do that. Only he fell asleep in it, so I'm not sure that counts, eh.

There were a few times where I came close to falling asleep into my provisions back home admittedly, so I suppose I can't entirely blame him for the habit.

From long hours working?

[She thinks on this for a moment and then laughs.]

I suppose you could call spending long hours killing darkspawn and garnering allies the work of a Grey Warden, so yes. Not to mention all the traveling. You never realize how big a country is until you have to cover the entire thing on foot several times over.

Ah, walking... yeah I'll pass on that. I'm a sailor so I'll stick to sailing.

Freckles keels over from narcolepsy though. It's kind of cute after the first few times, when you finally stop thinking he's dead.

What are darkspawn?

I think I might take walking to sailing. I can't say for sure as I've never sailed before.

That does sound like something to worry about. [She digs into her own food carefully, still keeping up with the conversation.] I can see how that would be disturbing at first.

Monsters of a sort. It's honestly kind of complicated, so I'll just leave it at evil monsters lead by a bigger, smarter monster who's trying to destroy the planet. I figure that at least gives you a rough idea of what they are at least even if it doesn't explain how they look.

Which is awful I might add. They're truly vile.

Sailing is great. Almost as good as flying.

[Nods. Ace worries Marco constantly. Even when he's not just falling asleep randomly.]

Good to know. Luckily most of the monsters in my world aren't too smart, just animals really. Except humans, but that's another story.

The monsters here are generally more like what we have in my world though, eh?

Flying? Now you sound like Cid. Ah, Instructor Raines. He's told me quite a bit about the airships of his world.

[Some people are just people who're brought into your life to be a constant source of worry. That's just kind of how it works.]

Thankfully most of them are dumber than a barrel of elfroot.

We don't have many like that on mine. Wolves, spiders, and bears yes, but not monsters in the way these are.

Not so much on the airships thing... [Rubs the back of his neck.] Just ask people around here, I'm not a good driver.

Any special species of the wolves, spiders, and bears?

I'm still not sure how I passed the driving course. Lots of hard work and Cid's help I think? It's not something I want to experience again.

[She thinks about this for a moment and then shakes her head.]

Normal one for the most part. Though Blight tainted versions have been more common lately.

Yeah I got a tutor and extra help and I still can't believe I passed...

"Blight"?

I think that's how it is for most of us. I admire people for whom the class comes naturally.

Darkspawn are a way of life on Ferelden. Normally it's not too bad, but when there's an archdemon to lead them, it becomes increasingly dangerous. The darkspawn become more active and their taint becomes more wide spread as the size of the hoard increases. Eventually the taint affects the plants and animals around it. When this happens we refer to it as a Blight.

[Did you enjoy the mini-history lesson, Marco?]

Eh. I will never use driving. They don't really let me steer at home anyway, but that's why we have navigator nakama in the crew. Just as there's pilots here who can do it.

Yeah? Makes sense really. So the blight tainted bears or wolves or whatever would be more demonic I suppose?

If it is a situation in which I must drive than it's a bad situation indeed. So hopefully that won't happen anytime in the near future.

That's right. It's fairly easy to tell a blighted wolf from a normal one. It's the same for all the rest as well. They are no trouble for a Warden, but for most they're quite deadly.

[She sighs a little bit.] You could say I had my hands full before I came here. Being a Seed? Is rather restful in comparison. I'm not sure about teaching though; however, but if the Headmaster feels I'm up to it then I'll try my best.

Aye.

A Warden?

I think I know how that is. And I'm sure you'll be find as an instructor.

A Grey Warden, to be specific, we're the only ones who are capable of stopping the blight.

[Mae smiles a little bit at that.] Thank you. I certainly hope you're right.

Sometimes I think it'd be easier to face the whole blight single-handedly than to face the idea of a classroom where everyone is looking to me for instruction.

I see... if I may ask though; how?

[Laughs quietly.] Just remember that mistakes will happen. The goal isn't to make them mistake-proof or perfect, just help them learn from the mistakes and keep moving forward, he.

It's in our blood. [She smiles cryptically.] And that's all I can say on the matter.

Do you know what makes this funny? I never actually wanted to be a leader. Yet here I'm supposed to be teaching leadership to cadets. Irony knows no bounds I suppose.

Good enough. [Waves a hand.]

Heh. I think most good leaders didn't want it. Even our Commander doesn't seem too big on the position. On the bright side, if nothing else, you can teach what not to do, eh?

My senior was very stubborn a bout not leading. Something about how we'd end up lost and he'd end up without any pants.

[She smiles.]

How I'm not really certain. I figured I probably didn't want to know.

[Blinks.] I guess that describes some of my fellow commanders back home....

Heh, just do your best Instructor.
