first strike ♞ action
[It'd been a while since Paine first arrived at Balamb, but she hadn't said much to anyone since. She'd even been pretty quiet with her roommate, and mostly either kept to her room, or trailed toward the Training Center. Nothing had really made sense for a few days, and she'd spent that first week looking for Rikku and Yuna. Even the boys. Anyone.
When it was clear that she was stuck in this place, she finally took a first look at the course catalogue. What the hell? Seriously. It took another week to get around to finally filling out the classes she would be fine with taking (truthfully, some of them did look interesting), but she wasn't going to sit around and wait for things to happen. The only way to make sense of things was to go chop up some monsters, and hope that the adrenaline could get her thinking straight.
It was easy to hack through a couple of Grats -- they were nothing. But a couple of Grats in, Paine found herself growing weary, and stuck her blade into the ground to lean on it. Anyone who came across her would be greeted by a panting girl dressed from head to toe in leather.

[A roar precedes the thrashing in the training area overgrowth -- then a T-Rexaur stumbles through some of the small trees. The expression on its face appears to be pure panic, possibly because a bronze man-god has it by the throat one-handed.]
[Eschewing the sword in his other hand, Jecht hauls the dino to the ground, slamming it face-first into the spongy turf. It plows a furrow into the dirt before smashing hard into the underlying metallic floor. The body quivers, then goes limp.]
They gotta get some real challenges in here.
[Dusting off his hands, Jecht steps around the body -- then notices Paine.]
Uh. Sorry about the mess. That thing got a bit feisty.
