[Katara had taken to searching around the school for her brother; it'd been days since she'd last seen him, and the waterbender was getting worried. While Sokka could usually be found in either the cafeteria or the Quad, even the cafeteria ladies had told her that it'd been days since they'd seen the Watertribe Warrior; they were rather familiar with the male now, seeing as he had an almost insatiable appetite and was always hanging around for more food.

Initially, Katara refused to believe that he could have disappeared just as Jet and Toph have, though with each passing day it was becoming more and more of a reality to her. Today is the fourth day she's visited his dormitory, and after nearly an hour of knocking and calling for him and waiting outside of his door, she eventually realizes that it's no use. With slumped shoulders and a somber expression on her face, Katara makes her way out from the boys' wing of the dormitory to head for her own room.]

[Note: Super backdated before the event because I fail. I'm still on a hiatus thanks to finals, but I'll try to tag back whenever I can!]

[Katara wasn't the only one thinking about Sokka or worried about Sokka. Zuko had been wondering where the Water Tribe warrior had gone off to but had never thought to look for him as Katara had.

He's on his way back from the library, a book in hand hanging at his side. His other hand's stuffed into a pocket of his hoodie. That's when he spies Katara leaving the boys' dormitory and heaving into the girls'.

Was she going there to see him? Or maybe to check up on Sokka?

Either way Zuko pauses just as he's about to head over into his wing, watching her.] Hey.

[Who knows if she'll hear.]

[She does hear him, though it takes a moment for Katara to register that the voice was in fact addressed to her. Looking up, there's a brief look of surprise in her eyes as she spots Zuko.]

... Hi.

How uh- how are things?

[He stands there, a bit awkward-like, watching her. He caught the flicker of surprise in her blue eyes but doesn't question it, wondering to himself if she really was that surprised to see him.]

[She'd only been so surprised because, well... she'd been so focused on Sokka, she'd momentarily forgotten everything else. But she eases her stance then, giving a small shrug in response.]

You... you haven't seen Sokka around, have you?

Sokka? [Shakes his head.] Not for a few days now.

I ... take it things aren't so good then.

[Her shoulders slump again, a silent sort of resignation at Zuko's response.]

I haven't been able to find him anywhere-- and right after Toph disappeared, too...

[The thought of Sokka having met the same fate as Toph makes her chest constrict; she doesn't want to think about it.]

[Zuko closes his eyes and lowers his head. So that's it then; Sokka's gone, just like Toph.]

... I'm sorry. [Glances over at her and then lowers his eyes to the ground between them. That leaves just himself, her, Aang, and ... Azula. He wonders, though, how his sister's taking the news - if she'd already heard.]

[Katara's own gaze averts, dropping down to the tiled floor between them. There's a long stretch of silence before she finally replies, her words a tone of defeat.]

Yeah, me too.

Uh. If there's anything you need just ... let me know.

[She glances up at him then, a bit surprised at his offer. Katara looks at him for several moments, blue eyes simply gazing at the Firebender before she gives him a slow nod-- for some reason, she doesn't doubt his sincerity.]

... Thanks, Zuko.

[He glances up and over at her as she looks to him and he finds himself staring back at her. Uncomfortable, awkward, kind of feeling suddenly nervous - Zuko looks away first and nods.]

Y-yeah. You're welcome. Uh - anytime.

[It's getting a bit uncomfortable for her, as well. She find herself crossing her arms, almost hugging herself as she lowers her gaze to the tile floor. Silence passes between them before she can think of the first thing to say to him.]

Do you-- do you want me to bring the milk for the kittens? I can do that now.

What? Oh. Yeah. [Pauses.] Sure.

[How could he forget about the kittens? And on top of that, their little chicobo.]

[She nods then-- good, something for her to do to take her mind off things. Katara begins to turn towards the exit of the wing, but pauses for a moment.]

Uhm... you can wait in your dorm, I guess. I'll be back in a little bit.

[Zuko nods and says nothing, taking a step back before turning. He hesitates for a few seconds but continues, heading to his room to wait for her.

She probably wants to be alone for a moment; he'll respect that, if that's the case.]

[Aang doesn't want to believe that Sokka's gone, so like Katara, he's been ignoring the voice in his head telling him that it made sense. He had looked for him a bit, but each time had been fruitless and left him upset. So, with this in mind, he isn't very surprised to see Katara leaving the boys' dormitory as he heads toward it.]

Katara? What are you doing here? [He has an idea, but it's better to ask anyway.]

[Katara looks up when she hears her name being called; once her eyes find Aang, she attempts a small smile and a wave.]

Hi, Aang. I was just... just looking for Sokka. Have you seen him around lately?

[He smiles and waves back before he hears what she says. When he does, he drops the smile.]

No, I haven't.

[Katara lets out a sigh-- it's as she expected.]

First Toph, now Sokka... I wonder if one of us will be next.

I'm sure Sokka's still here. He's probably just training a lot. Or finding something to eat. [He knows this sounds stupid. But it's Sokka.]
