Balamb Newsletter, Issues II+III (Summer/Fall Quarter)
[Come Wednesday morning, as students rise from their beds as usual, they may notice students and SeeDs alike reading a newsletter. It turns out the Garden has just released the Summer/Fall edition of the Balamb Newsletter. Issues are available for free on racks in the Cafeteria!]

| Term Exams Over: Summer Vacation and a New Semester Begin | Garden Being Accused of Harboring Sorceresses! | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| By: Sera Leradine (SeeD #34809, Garden Festival Committee Leader) Good morning everyone! It’s been about a good two months since we last released the Balamb Garden Newsletter. But we’re back! Did you miss me? Cause I sure did miss writing my columns! And after all those dreadful exams and all the studying. Oh hey! What was up with the nightmares, huh?! Sometimes I’m still afraid of going to sleep because of them— I mean mine probably weren’t nearly as bad as some of you off-worlders, but being chased by sliced pickles and cream chee— err, never mind that!! I’m just glad the cafeteria had a lot of coffee prepared for that week! So! Scary nightmares! Exams! Summer Vacation! Docking in Dollet! The new semester! What a great way to end the term and begin anew, right?! With the inside scoop I’m about to give you, you off-worlders might not be too happy with what’s in store; I know I wasn’t, and I’m a native to this world and to Garden! From the looks of things more classes have been added to the lists! That’s no fun – it just means more work for everyone!! Me included! But first! Let’s talk about the summer vacation and Dollet! Did everyone have fun? It was really nice to get out of Garden and stretch my legs, I’ll tell you that much! |
With the Time Compression messing everything up, some things really haven’t changed. In the last twenty or so years, Dollet hasn’t changed one bit. There might be a few nifty bits technology-wise but that’s about it. I’m just glad the Communications Tower is up and running this time – where would we be without it?! No means of communication between the Gardens! No sneak peeks on the television sets in the pubs and around Dollet! Life would cease to exist as we know it!! I really missed the beaches of Dollet! And the pub! And even the bridge crossing from the town into the mountains! It was a really great idea to dock in Dollet for restocking supplies and allowing the Cadets (off-worlders included!) to get a look around. I wonder what’s in store next! Maybe we can go to Deling City?! Or maybe the possibility of meeting up with one of the other Gardens! That would be so exciting!! I can’t wait to see (note to the Headmaster – please, please let it be Deling City next!)! The new semester isn’t going to be easy or kind from the looks of it! But with the threat of war on the horizon, it only makes sense that Garden’s better preparing us! It’s a scary thought, isn’t it?! |
I would have thought with Ultimecia long gone there wouldn’t even be a war! I guess that’s just wishful thinking on my part. It looks like there are going to be more compulsory courses and electives! The Headmaster and Commander Leonhart have really thought this through! Here’s to hoping that the new semester won’t kick us down too hard!! Best of luck to you all!! ![]() |
By: Helena Oster (Cadet #67749, GFC Member) With all of the new arrivals in the past few months come powers unimaginable and unknown. While we’re unsure what we can do with the refugees showing abilities like none we’ve ever seen and some even showing potential to actually being sorceresses – what does this mean for us? What could it possibly mean for Garden? One young female cadet was seen in Dollet exhibiting the ability to manipulate water, controlling its flow. Both the Headmaster and Commander Leonhart were unavailable for comment on the incident, leaving Garden hanging in the rift of accusations from other Gardens. Are we, the natives to this world, safe from the possibility that some off-worlders show evidence of sorceress ability? Council between the Gardens will commence this fall and a decision reached by the New Year on the events. It’s only a matter of time before both the countries and Gardens are divided and animosity begins, if it hasn’t already.
| War on the Horizon? Galbadia Backs Out of Treaty Signing with Esthar | Competition for the Trepies? Miss Quistis Trepe seen letting hair down for the Commander | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| By: Helena Oster (Cadet #67749, GFC Member) When we said “things are looking up” – things aren’t looking so up after all. Negotiations for the treaty signing with Esthar have gone awry. They aren’t falling through at all. It wouldn’t be proper to go and point fingers, that would be stir up a war of our own with either party. We want to avoid that, especially with Garden’s connections concerning Esthar and the alliance between the Headmaster and President Loire. But it seems that any negotiations to put a halt to the threat of war between Galbadia and Esthar have taken a nose-dive for the worse. What could that mean for Balamb Garden? We’re involved. No matter what. Trained or not – we have no other choice but to be prepared for the worst outcome ever. There hasn’t been such a threat as this since Galbadia Garden attacked Balamb and Balamb retaliated. President Loire spoke to Deling reporter Seloria Gual once more, and we’re going to quote him; “Galbadia is refusing to see the reasoning behind the proposed treaty. They don’t understand the importance of this and what this new threat could mean for everyone. |
![]() "We’re all too aware of how dangerous Ultimecia can be; with the flood of new arrivals to our world, this is only a sliver of what she’s capable of. Each nation and each Garden must forget past grudges and come to terms with one another – or we’re all doomed.” Should the political relations between Esthar and Galbadia remain severed, what could this mean for the other Gardens around the world? The other nations? Will we all be dragged under? Unfortunately any commentary from either the Headmaster or Commander Leonhart are unavailable at this time. |
By: Chessy Delacreaux (Cadet #73472, GFC Member) It’s no surprise that the first thing to start off the column is all about the Commander! We’ll save that, though, for later on! The best for last!! Fear not, Trepies! The summer break opened up a lot of opportunities for gossip! With the beaches of Dollet, the pubs and the harbor. All around – gossip, gossip! And we’re bringing you the juiciest details ever! All in the Balamb Garden Newsletter!! There seems to be a lot of those after-curfew rendezvous! How exciting!! And yes! We’re talking about you, the male cadet with the scarring on the left side of his face! Don’t think we didn’t catch you sneaking off to the Training Center to meet with that other male cadet! Let’s hope for the best for those two, shall we?! Who knows what happened in the you-know-what area! And what’s up with these new cadets, huh?! They really seem to enjoy walking around in circles when it comes to them being on the main level of Garden! Always walking and walking and walking around the elevators. So weird!! |
The members of the Disciplinary Committee are going to need a committee to control them! The head of the committee, Seifer Almasy, seems to have left this world – where could he have gone?! He better hurry back before they tear each other apart just to be the leader! It looks like the women in Garden are getting advice over the BBS about how to take better care of themselves. Along with advice on how to snag a man! I don’t even know where to begin!! I’m a female and I feel almost insulted! So everyone! I promised the best for last!! Here it is!! Commander Leonhart, Miss Quistis Trepe, and Lt. Commander Xu were all seen at the Dollet pub! Together! And drinking copious amounts of alcohol!! What's worse is that Miss Trepe and the Commander landed on the floor together! But that’s not nearly as bad as where the three ended up after that little jaunt!! Who oh who stumbled out of who’s dorm room the next morning?! I can only wonder!!
