bbs - yeah no.

Sorry Garden, but I've gotta do it.

I'm calling bullshit on this Time Compression Mage that's been in the news recently.

Something seriously stinks about that whole thing and I'm speaking from experience here, guys. The only person who could control Time Compression got their butt handed to them 22 years ago. I watched her fade away into nothingness and while anything's possible, being able to manipulate Time Compression like that to thaw Trabia out, just shouldn't be possible.

I'm going on my gut with this one.

It's good to know I'm not the only one suspicious about it. Given the perception of Time Compression as an extremely poorly understood magical space-time-altering force, someone achieving that level of mastery over it so suddenly is borderline impossible.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if someone was able to do something like that... but I do think that it's pretty unlikely.

I mean, if there was someone who could control time compression, why is he only showing up now?

I agree with it being bullshit and not feeling right.

Also, we should talk. I'll be in my quarters all day today.

Your view of the powers people can have is pretty restricted. It's either science or sorceresses for you, isn't it?

Time compression is a pretty strong spell, given nobody's actually fixed it yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone with time related powers could twist it here and there. The problem is that they can't possibly be native.

That said, it probably sorted itself out and someone went 'oh, I'll take credit for that! That'll get me some attention!' It's amazing how common that is, considering it's obvious how quickly it'll unravel with a few 'help us!' requests.

Well, I'd rather it be bullshit anyway.

Your idea of how this planet should work is mostly wrong, it isn't yours so don't look at it like it should follow the same rules.

It's almost fucking impossible to stop a spell when the one casting it doesn't technically even exist yet so "fixing it" isn't exactly easy. Maybe they perfectly understand quantum physics and how to fix them when they get played with by nutjobs on your planet but they're still figuring out how to get messages between places without needing a messenger of some sort on this one.

I don't know how far in the sand you've been keeping your head but things on that massive of a scale don't just sort themselves out overnight. If it did, fine we're being paranoid but I'd rather be paranoid and prepared than comfy cozy only to be caught unprepared and have to deal with being turned inside out because some assclown was messing with physics.
espio: (do i really have to explain this)

[personal profile] espio 2013-05-25 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I know. Can't you read? I explicitly said he wouldn't be native, because he's not a sorceress.

If I told you about the kind of powers on my homeworld, I'd be here all day. We had everything - something new and different to deal with every day. In a world like that, you stop being surprised by what kind of weird things people can do. Not long before I came here, we found out that the universe was made of waste Chaos, which explained a lot.

And yeah, that's what sensible people do: actually do the things they take credit for. Other people just want the fame and to be talked about, which is dumb.

We're talking about a force that distorts time and space. Doesn't that mean 'now' is irrelevant?

Balamb Town? Couple nice places there, and I can enjoy being the envy of everyone with you on my arm.

A Haste spell on an entire country.

Not so hard if you're a strong enough mage. Sure, it isn't "time compression" but I doubt exaggeration is as big of a crime as handling powers that Man Was Apparently Not Meant To Know.

Though... I do have to wonder. Did anyone actually see him do something, or is he just claiming it after it was done?

Not that seeing him do something means that he's actually controlling time compression, but well, it at least makes things more believable.

Lot of pent up issues being fired in the wrong direction, here, and what for? Because I mentioned "Time Compression's not fixed yet"? Had too many people demanding to know why it's not gone away yet? Too many off-worlders thinking they're hot shit and can make all your problems disappear?

And please make your mind up - you said you called bullshit on some guy coming in and sorting out that one problem, and yet you're also saying it couldn't have sorted itself out. The facts? The seasons are back on track there, we don't know how, some off-worlder's making out that he did it, and people don't know whether or not to take him seriously.

The concern that if some guy did mess with it and that it might have a consequence is valid, and I'll keep it in mind in case something explodes. But the reason my bet's on "it fixed itself" isn't just because I'm used to people taking credit where credit isn't due. It's because my personal observations say that Time Compression's effects are often unpredictable and the unusual effects it occasionally has on Garden will disappear after some time. That, and it seems pretty unlikely that some guy would show up with just that power right when he was needed, out of everyone in billions of realities.

Oh, and sorry, but like it or not, the rules of alien worlds are absolutely in play here. Physically impossible powers by this planet's standards have got to work somehow, otherwise we'd all be just as normal as the natives.

I think people would have noticed if all the people in Trabia started running around like Sonic the bloody Hedgehog, fuzzball.
