HOLI BONFIRE (backdated to 4/14)

[The Garden Festival Committee and the Fight Club have graciously sponsored a giant bonfire in the Quad from 2000 to 2400 hours on Saturday night! It takes up most of the room in the center, with piles upon piles of freshly-cut logs and staff members replenishing the fire every so often with para-magic, but there's plenty to do and see in the Quad regardless.

Various members of the GFC have guitars on them, in order to properly sing campfire songs around the bonfire, and there's stations run by both Fight Club and the GFC near the back for s'mores, chocolate, and various other snacks that a bonfire party might need.

And even though your presence isn't mandatory, the smell of freshly roasted s'mores and the heat from the bonfire might be enough to entice just about anyone.]

Sugar. [She takes up a stick and puts a fluffy confection on a pointed branch.] And more sugar.

So just sugar, hm? [A light laugh, but she imitates him and tries a bit herself.]

Well...there's also other stuff, but that usually scares mothers from eateries. [He smiles, puts his branch above the flames, and waits for Rapunzel to mimic.]

Well, mine is not currently present to object. [A smirk which turns more to curiosity as he places the stick over the flames, mimicking his action.]

I wouldn't mind on of the other. [He nods in approval at Rapunzel's miming.] Great. Just hold it above the flames. You don't want the marshmallow to catch on fire. Unless you like smoky, burnt flavoring.

Well, not really. So we don't want them too close for too long. [But this makes sense because she has some baking experience. Just not over an open fire like this is all.]

You're getting the hang of this. [He loves that Rapunzel is have a good time at Garden. That she's learning so much and seeing so much, just like she wanted and still wants, ever since he first met her in that tower.] When you think it's roasted, pull back the stick. YOu don't want it to melt right off the branch.

Well, I'm just sort of...copying you if I'm unsure about things. [A small smile, but she does trust him and even here he knows more for the most part than she does in some ways.] It'd melt that much? The..marshmallow seemed solid enough before though.

That's how you learn. [He returns her small smile.] Well when you expose things that are soft and solid, sometimes they melt.

Right. We don't want them to cook too much... Withdrawing hers a little to check, deciding it needs just a bit more until she would be satisfied.]

Unless you want to feed the fire, instead of your stomach.

My stomach seems pretty insistant that it wants to eat, not the fire.

Good stomach. [His marshmallow is done, so he pulls it back from the flames and picks up his plate. He slides the marshmallow onto the graham cracker and chocolate slice, using the top half of the cracker to hold the marshmallow in place.]

Juuuuuust like that!

[And copying him, unsure what on earth this concoction will taste like but trying it anyway.] This is amazing!

Ain't it? We used to make these all the time at the orphanage. [Hs smile drops its whimsy, and now it reflects memory, soft warmth.] It was never the best chocolate, and the marshmallows were always a bit stale, but they did the trick.

[seethelanterns]

So that's how you learnt about these then? They are good. [Yup, might just be inching over a little closer as she listens. Eugene telling stories is the best and she is always interested to hear about his childhood.]

[Eugene notices, only smiling.] Yeah, these are a thousand times better than the ones I used to make, but... [He'll just put an arm around Rapunzel's waist, pulling her closer.] ...I think this time is more important because I have someone amazing to share it with.

[She's glad at least here he's happier and the food is better. Rapunzel can't help returning the smile and leaning against him a little when he pulls her to him.] Me too. I mean, besides that I would never have known about these...s'more things if you hadn't shown me. But....this is nice.

[guidethesun]

[It's a warm moment. Just Eugene, Rapunzel...and thousand other students and faculty members.] How are your classes going?

[seethelanterns]

They're okay. It's a lot of work but I've been trying and studying so I don't think I'm doing too badly. [It's a lot to take in but Rapunzel has always been a determined and fast learner.]
