Well, for starters, magic doesn't exist back home, or at least if it does I've never run into it. But from what I'm learning about it, magic's flashy and requires outside help or something. Bending is one hundred percent on you, and doesn't have to be flashy. Firebenders usually are because...fire's flashy.
