[ Having just arrived and found herself in a strange place, Colette's first course of business is to find her friends. She feels ill at ease without Lloyd at her side, and she's worried about Genis and the others. That is why she's standing in the lobby and approaching an occasional passer-by. ]

Excuse me. I'm sorry to bother you, but I'm looking for someone. Have you seen a boy with spiky brown hair and red clothes? Oh--maybe you don't speak the same language as me. Here, I have a picture.

[He was just going to get something to eat. Why is someone approaching him? People don't approach him. They give him a safe distance while he's being all broody and spiky. Doesn't this girl know that?

She doesn't seem to. So he looks at the picture.]

I can't imagine why you would have trouble finding him with this rendition.

[ The COLETTE is naturally impervious to brooding and spikiness. The COLETTE is also unable to detect sarcasm. ]

Do you really think so? I made sure to include exactly the right number of buttons on his jacket just to be safe.

[ Yes. She does in fact know exactly how many buttons are on Lloyd's jacket. ]

Why do you know how many buttons are on his jacket? Is this somehow important?

[Maybe it's a technology thing. He's still getting used to that stuff.

Or maybe they're magical buttons, but he's not going to think about that right now, because getting angry over buttons would be ridiculous even for him.]

[ Because it's her hobby to watch him. Duh. ]

There could be someone else here who looks just like him, only he has a different number of buttons on his jacket. That's why I thought it was important to have them.

[ That stumps her for a moment. ]

That's true. The SeeDs are the important people here, right?

But I don't think Lloyd would wear a uniform. He's really proud of the clothes his father made him.

[Ohhh, hear that sullen glower in his voice. He glances away for a moment in a fit of broody pique, as some would say, then back down at Colette.]

I doubt very much the authorities care for his pride. But you may be right. I have not seen the boy, but should I find him, I will tell him you seek him.

[Sollux was spending his designated half hour exploring the Garden without overwhelming himself, and when she approaches him he shies away kind of awkwardly before just boggling at the picture.]

'Goodness and love will always win'...?

You're quite talented. [Padmé smiles at her and then looks at the image again, shaking her head.] But I'm afraid I have yet to see the person you're looking for.

[ She smiles, keeping a distance in hopes of putting him at ease. She doesn't want to upset anyone. ]

Actually he thinks it's kind of silly. But it's one of the Dwarven Vows his father taught him.

I see... [ It's disappointing, but finding Lloyd won't just be that easy. Anyways, this woman is only one person, and this place is very big and well-populated. ] If you do see him, could you tell him Colette is looking for him? He'll know who you mean.

I'm sorry, I haven't seen anyone who looks like that yet... [She cocks her head a bit further to examine the image for a second longer, then shakes her head, as if reconfirming what she said.]

[He stares at it for a few more seconds, and then looks up at her.]

[He hesitates for a moment, and then adds:]

He could still show up, though. A lot of people have been.

[ Maybe he's just shy... Yes, that must be it! ]

Of course. Colette. Does he have a name?

[He was, in fact, about to walk away. Now he stops. Did she just introduce herself to him? Why would she do that? He's supposed to melt away into the shadows and brood off into the distance now. Not talk to cheerful girls.]

[ never give up!!!! ]

Oh, then maybe the others are here. I hope they're all okay.

Yes, it's Lloyd. [ radiating shoujo sparkles ]

People say it's pretty safe here, so...

[He puts his hands in his pockets and shrugs.]

[Talking to these people is challenging.]

[Smiles.]

I take it you have just arrived?

[Colette you have asked the wrong person this question. Karkat just sort of twitches his ears and looks affronted at the sudden inclusion of a Bubbly Human Blonde in his existence and stares at her drawing.]

And I'd probably punch him if I did see him, if that's a saying that regularly escapes his protein chute.

You can understand me? Oh, good! [ she'd thought maybe more people would speak a different language, but that doesn't seem to be the case ]

Well, if you see him, could you please tell him that Colette is looking for him? I'd really appreciate it.

[He wants to dismiss her with a sneer; surely she's just another Merrill, a foolish girl with a head full of naive optimism and bad ideas. Except something is different.

Even so, suddenly finding yourself in a strange place is pretty frightening. I'd be scared if it happened to me.
