Garish implies a degree of relative luridity that simply does not exist when comparing my ensemble with your own clothing, which I assume, from your statements with regard to your undercostumed state, you consider to be respectable apparel. Yet your colorful shirt is if anything more showy than my bedsheet, unless you are counting bloodstains as part of the pattern, which strikes me as unjust.

It really isn't nearly as subjective or arbitrary a matter as you suggest.
