[ Well, a girl who kind of looks like Jade Harley was about to go storming to who knows where on this godforsaken campus. She's kind of mad; what kind of place picks you up when you're busy mourning your dead family members? Jeez, can't you at least wait a week or so?

(Jade knew she didn't have a week left to live at home. She tried not to think about this.)

But on her way to rage around the campus, she had smelled food. Wow, that was amazing. Did people actually make things that weren't microwaved? She wandered inside of the building and sat down, staring at the food. She was a little hungry; it wasn't often that she got a meal inside the Medium, and it had been a long time since anything other than soda and ramen.

Soda. Did this place have any?

People can find her sitting there. She's been there all day, and has no intention of going anywhere any time soon. Classes? What are classes? Staring at food > following a schedule. ]

[ Looks like Jade's got her priorities straight. Kiden approves of a straight set of priorities. Who the fuck needs schedules when there's food?

The cafeteria is conveniently predictably busy, so Kiden wordlessly slides her tray onto the table next to the smaller girl's before taking a seat.

Shepherd's pie, man. Food of the fucking gods. ]

Jade isn't very good at people -- the last person that she talked to was Bro, and...well, never mind. She watches the other girl carefully out of the corner of her eye, glad for the sunglasses for once. It takes her a long time to say something. ]

[ Kiden pauses with a forkful of corny, potatoey goodness halfway to her mouth, consternated. Couldn't this kid see that she was eating? But then again, Kiden's always been a little softer for girls--a necessary weakness from growing up in a house of boys. ]

Not much. Eating. [ Said emphatically. There's a small pause, as if she's looking for Jade's eyes under those sunglasses. ] You okay?

[ She's been eating -- god, she's so hungry again, but she figures that stuffing ten meals into one day would be a Bad Idea.

If you're expecting her to take the shades off, don't look for it any time soon. ]

[ Kiden huffs a bit, then makes a quiet, amused sound. She feels like a tape recorder. ]

We've all got places we'd rather be. Might as well get comfy while you're here.

[ Pointing vaguely at the shepherd's pie. Jade's never seen it before. ]

[ She'll be depressed when she's alone; right now is staring at food time. She hasn't moved. She's still trying to figure out how the food gets into the serving things. How does it work? Where do they unfreeze and microwave it all? That's a lot. ]

[ Looking up. Oh shit someone she doesn't know must act cool must act cool. The shocked face is replaced with a more neutral one. ]

Oh, I mean, yeah. I'm totally chill. Just...where's it all come from?

Our oven at home had shit stuffed into it. We didn't actually use any of the junk in the kitchen.

[ She's definitely human, but she's also Strider. Which means that good food is beyond her. ]

Uh, Jade Strider, little sis of a ninja and also kinda hungry. [ Wow oh my god she wants a cape. ] When do I get one of those? [ Now pointing at said cape. ]

[ Extends her fork, with a sloppy morsel on it. Now's no time to be squeamish, Jade, there's discovery to be done. ]

[ Jade takes one look at it and then pretty much dashes with all the ninja speed into that line.

She moves faster for this than anything else recently, excepting one thing. Soon enough, she's back, still examining the sponsor ring. ]

So that's what this does? Gets me food? Does it do anything else?

I think I'd kill the fabric. It'd scream and go "ohhh noooo strider don't touch me with your knitting needles!" or something like that.

[ A red cape would look 100x better than a purple cape...take that-- oh wait David's not here. She frowns. ]

[ Kiden just watches Jade run off with a mix of awe, amusement, and very mild worry. When the girl returns, she offers only a raised brow and a dry smile. ]

You don't have to wear it, but yeah, it gets you food and clothes and shit, a dorm room, plus your allowance.
