[Today hadn't really carried the weight most moving days seemed to. Yuffie supposed that was all thanks to her lack of actual material possessions -- whatever had seen fit to pull her from Wutai and bring her here could have at least given her like, a twenty minutes heads-up to get some of her stuff together. Not that she wasn't grateful. Things had been getting pretty hairy back home, what with that old guy being a creeper on her and that awful kidnapping business.

... really, all things considered, this wasn't a bad place to be. Besides. Things were just things. She could steal herself some new things just as easily as she's stolen the old ones, and she'd be feeling perfectly at home in her dorm room in no time. Which, she noted as she entered, looking kinda sterile as it was. Sigh. Boring. But what else could she expect? SeeD was more or less military. She almost completely bypassed the other girl in the room before she stopped herself, holding one hand up in lieu of a wave.]

What's up? I take it you're my roommate?

[Well, this was a sudden surprise! Katara had been studying in her room with the door open to the common area when she heard the main door slide open and a girl enter. Pushing her chair away from the desk, she watched the girl head to the empty room adjacent to hers before she was addressed.]

Oh! So you're moving in? [Not that she minded at all-- in fact, she always thought it was a little lonely in room since she had been roommate-less for a while. So she gets up to extend her hand for a greeting handshake.]

Yeah, looks like I'm your roommate! I'm Katara, nice to meet you!

[Yuffie studied the extended hand for a moment as though it might be hazardous to the touch, but took it and gave it a firm shake regardless. She grinned, settling her free hand against her hip as she cocked them to one side.]

Good t'meetcha. Have you been here long?

[After a few firm shakes, Katara releases her hand and beams at the girl. She seems pretty outgoing-- something that Katara likes.]

I've been here for about... [Hold on a minute as she mentally counts in her head. When she's finally done, she seems rather surprised at the answer herself.] ... eight months! So yeah, I would say that's been a pretty long time.

Yeah? Y'like it? Seems like there's a lot of rules around here... dunno how I feel about that.

Well, it's really different from where I'm from. In my world, we never had really big schools like this-- plus everything here is so advanced. I've never seen a lot of the things they have here before! But it's fun learning the things they teach in class. It was a little hard to get use to in the beginning, but once you kind of accept the fact that we're all stuck here for the time being, it's not so bad.

What about you? Is this world similar to where you're from?

Eh, kinda. We've got a lotta high-tech stuff where I'm from, too, but it's pretty much limited to a couple'a major cities. The smaller towns all get kinda dumped on and are stuck in the past, like where I'm from. But it's not too hard to figure out some of the stuff here, like the terminals n'stuff. They look pretty easy.

[She shrugs, making a flippant gesture with one hand.] We ain't got any towns that fly, though. I mean, it's a school, but it's big enough t'be a town if you think about it. That's pretty damn advanced.

[Katara nods, following Yuffie's words with interest.]

Yeah, the school is really big; I couldn't believe it at first when they told us that it could actually fly. Back in our world, my brother only just invented War Balloons! The stuff here is way beyond anything we could have dreamed of.

It's cool that the place can fly, but I'm not too excited to see it in action. [Yuffie looks a little green at the very thought of being airborne. Urk.]

Fine with me if it stays on the ground. S'where schools are meant to be, anyway.

The school doesn't travel much unless it's during break, where it usually flies us all someplace so we can go on vacation. It's kind of nice-- we've been to Trabia and Dollet so far. You don't really know it's flying after the first initial jolt.

[Katara spots the slight paling of Yuffie's skin at the mention of flying and can't help but look sympathetic.]

Not a big fan of flying?

Yeah? Can't tell, huh? That's promising, I guess.

[Yuffie looks almost stunned for a moment, not sure of how to proceed when caught in a potentially embarrassing admission. She waves dismissively. Oh well. Brush it off!]

Yeah, not really. I mean, I'm the greatest ninja that ever lived and all, but I kinda prefer to be in control of, like. Motion. And stuff. You know?

Oh! So you're a ninja? Are you taking the martial arts courses here?

[OOC: No worries! I've literally been buried under school work and it's just now easing up, so sorry for the delay on my part as well!]

Yeah, I've got one or two on my class list, I think. Kinda just glossed over that stuff. [Yuffie offered another flippant wave.] Not like I need 'em. I'm fully trained!
