Balamb Newsletter, Volume 2/Issue 1 {Spring Edition}

[Come Friday morning, as students rise from their beds as usual, they may notice students and SeeDs alike reading a newsletter. It's a little late due to some last minute articles submitted to the GFC, but it's finally out! Looks like Garden has just released the Spring edition of the Balamb Newsletter. Issues are available for free on racks in the Cafeteria!]

Rumor or Truth: Galbadia Taking a Different Approach on Peace Talks?Getting Down to Business: A Message and Apology From Your GFC Leader

While it seems as though the peace talks between Esthar and Galbadia have been quiet with no progress, apparently there are rumors spreading around that Galbadia has taken to other activities to ensure that negotiations are seen through. Talks of a missile test is a remote area of Galbadia have been heard, which are extremely alarming rumors in itself.

Galbadia, after all, has a history of being a rather violent military force; they played a large part in the Second Sorceress Wars, where they took occupation of Timber by force and attacked our very own Balamb Garden and attempted to seize control of the school.

What does this mean for the rest of the world?

As they're supposed to be negotiating peace talks with Esthar, such a drastic movement that could cause mass destruction doesn't look like a peaceful resolution at all. Both sides seem to be pointing fingers at each other, though, claiming that it's the other nation who won't sign off the treaty.

Who is telling the truth? Who is trying to hide something? Is there an ulterior motive to these peace talks on the behalf of one of these nations?

"There have been no confirmation about such rumors, so we shouldn't jump to conclusions," Headmaster Cid stated in an interview regarding the matter. "In the meantime, we will continue to remain neutral on the matter of the peace talks until it becomes dire that we step in. This is a negiotiation between two powerful nations, and we should respect the negotiations being discussed by the two leaders before intervening."

Some of the students were eager to share their opinions when we approached them on the matter at hand; this is what some had to say:

"If you ask me, I think we should act now! Galbadia and missiles? Don't forget what they did to Trabia Garden all those years ago! And Balamb Garden had been practically hit by the missiles, too, but thankfully Commander Leonhart and his crew managed to move Garden in time! If we have the advantage of these secret missile testings, though, what are we waiting for!? If you ask me, this has something to do with that traitor Almasy crawling back to our school!"
"In my opinion, it wouldn't do well if we jumped between these two nations without solid evidence on our part. We are, after all, a military school that has no true affiliation with either nation; we work for who we're hired by. We don't want to damage the relations we've worked to rebuild with Galbadia, but nor do we want to sacrifice the bridge we've build with the technologically advanced nation of Esthar. It's a sticky situation, if you ask me, but it's better for us to remain neutral until we are personally provoked. Hopefully such a situation won't present itself."

Regardless of whether or not these missile tests are merely rumors or not, it's safe to say that the negotiations seem nowhere near being completed.

For the sake of the rest of the world, we can only hope that some agreement can be brought to soon; with the two most powerful nations still butting heads and no end of talks in sight, the rest of the world can only sit and wait with weary hearts.

I must apologize for being an absent face among the Garden. I do hope everyone is doing well, especially after all those strange activities during our trip to Trabia! Time Compression is certainly a wonder to behold...

This semester marks a new leaf for us to overturn, and it's looking mighty green to me! The Garden Festival Committee is always looking for more members to help promote fun and sportsmanship in an endeavor to build unity among each other. Now, it does seem daunting to do as our fellow peers come and go just as the wind changes, but it shouldn't make our efforts waiver in the least!

There will be sign up sheets going around by the time this newsletter is out, so please don't hesitate to put your name down! And remember, you can join more than one club or committee, just please remember that your time as students come first!

Hopefully with an influx of fresh minds, there will be an equal, if not greater, influx of fun activities for all. All work and no play will lead to...well, no play. We can't have that!

Join up today! There'll be no regrets!

If it isn’t the threat of missiles coming at us here in Garden, then it’s nearly everyone dropping a few years in age! It was just weeks ago back in December when a good number of cadets woke up to find themselves either mentally or physically younger, and that our junior cadets had physically aged somehow. It was really hard to tell who was who!

By the looks of things the Headmaster and the Commander were on some serious babysitting duty for those couple of weeks.

The Headmaster was the only one available to give us his comments and thoughts on the incident that we all, more or less, assume was created by Time Compression:

“It was an interesting and busy two weeks! The Commander and I - and the Faculty - did our best with the younger cadets; I imagine it was a great learning experience for any of the older cadets not affected by the incident, helping out wherever they could. I was extremely grateful for the aid in such an unexpected situation, thank you all!”

Hopefully we won’t have to go through such a thing again! I didn’t particularly enjoy waking up as a child! But it was nice to be young again, considering how many people in the world no doubt lament about how old they’re getting and how they want to be twenty years younger.

We’d really love to hear everyone’s experience, if they can remember! What you did, what happened, how it felt, to you, to be young again. If you were given the choice to stay that way forever, would you take it? We’re really interested in hearing what everyone has to say and the stories they could share with the rest of us!

You can just leave us your comments and thoughts in the suggestions box near the 2F, Classroom B. We’ll be sure to include them in the next newsletter!

Happy New Year, everyone!!

I hope everyone had some great holidays! And they got some great gifts!! The vacation we had in snowy Trabia was something I'd been looking forward to ever since the new quarter started!! But enough of that! I bet you missed my column, because I sure did miss you guys!!

It looks like a special invite was extended to both cadets and staff alike for a celebration that’s supposed to take place on the 5th of February. I hope I won’t be the only one attending!! And we definitely need a celebration after everything that’s happened! I wouldn’t miss it if I were you, it’s supposed to be a blast!

There’s been some drama over the BBS lately! I can’t believe it!! There’s apparently been some protest to the use of the Cadet numbers assigned to us! Personally I don’t mind one way or another, but this sure does have someone’s knickers in a twist! They seem truly offended to be just another number and not an actual name. But why? The numbers are there for confidentiality reasons!! Don’t any of you read the sections on protocol?!
February’s nearly upon us! That means … love will soon be in the air!! Chocolates, hearts, and gifts all around, Garden will be festive once again but this time in pinks and reds! My favorite colors! And it looks like young love is once more in the air!! One particular pair seem to be growing closer and closer, and you can’t try to deny it, you two!

I’ve seen you around and together – the dark haired male cadet and the blue-green haired female cadet! I refuse to give out your names because where would the fun be in that?!

Did everyone hear!? Guess who came crawling back to Garden! You might have heard of him if you were paying attention in your history courses!! He’s been labeled in the textbooks as a traitor, a war criminal! Seifer Almasy is out there in our hallways and he’s walking amongst us now as I write this!! Don’t think we’ve gone and forgotten how you led those troops into Garden, how you stood at the side of the Sorceress during the Sorceress War!

How could the Headmaster have been so lenient in allowing him back in?! It’s ridiculous! It’s like inviting another war at our doorstep!!

For the sake of your students and this school that's home to so many of us, please, you can't let this happen! Hasn't he wasted his two chances already?!
