[ 'Troublemakers are free to roam...'

And yet, Garden's most notorious is remarkable only in her absence. No graffitti, no saran wrap on toilet seats, no firecrackers tied to doorknobs. If you step out of the grand hall, though, and follow the muffled, rythmic sounds of a gun being fired, you'll find her in the WTR-301 classroom, putting lead in practice targets. Her form is slightly off--she's going to give herself a sore arm if she doesn't change that--but the basics are there and her aim is brutal. The metal is warm in her hands, and with the protective headgear muffling the noise, all she had to focus on is the steady beat of recoil. Blam, blam, blam, click. Reload.

She doesn't want to think about loss; this is the gun that her father used. She stuck a gun just like this in a man's mouth, once, when he threatened her. (It's a good memory. Sort of.) She wants to make friends with this gun. Gokudera's gone, and when she thinks that probably no one realized but her she gets pissed off, but that's the truth and she's going to have to bust her own ass this semester if she wants to stay, after failing two classes last time. He won't be here to nag her into homework. She briefly wonders about just leaving Garden and touring; now that she has No-Time back, it would be simple. A long, long walk. But then faces spring to mind, and what if No-Time was gone, and she was looking forward to that one class...it's just easier, she tells herself. It's just easier to stay.

Blam, click, reload. Got nothing better to do? Come bug her--just don't sneak up on her, she's in a mood, has a loaded weapon and less than zero qualms on using it. ]

[ While SeeD exams are very interesting and all, truthfully, it's hard to say that Claire really cares that much about them when in they're in the process of taking place. For her, today isn't that much different than any other day. Just more time to try and find something to do while school isn't currently in session, right?

To those who saw the instructor during the duration of the... phenomenon recently, she certainly looks different now- her hooded cape is gone, and even though it might be slowly growing cooler outside, after so long wearing the amount of clothing that had been required to protect her during the day, she's very glad things are back to normal.

For more reasons than one, of course... but for now and most obviously to an outsider's eye, she definitely seems determined to soak up all of the sunlight now that she can again, given her practically trademarked short skirt and a high-collared - but sleeveless - top in neutral colors. Most of the morning, she can be found at the quad, flipping through a number of books as if she's looking for something...

Eventually, though, she leaves the school entirely. Considering she's bringing along the bronze-colored gunblade she bought in this world, it looks like she's probably off to fight monsters outside of those found in the training center. And yet she doesn't go far, and now there's a pink-haired fighter sitting on top of an old fence left behind years before, half lost in thought and cutting up what looks a lot like a large taproot of some kind with a long knife.

Why? Take a guess.

Apparently, Claire has managed to find a sight even natives of this world might be surprised to witness- at least here in Balamb. Before long, a large and very yellow something steps tentatively out of the nearby trees, and after a few seconds of consideration, comes just close enough to take a bit of vegetable out of the attentive woman's outstretched hand.

Let's play! Precure Modulation!

[Clap. Smacking it into her open palm, Hibiki hoped for anything to happen. But after a moment, the Fairy Tone popped his head out of the socket.]

No dice, dodo♪

As expected; we need Kanade or Ellen with us Mimi♪ [added Miry. Hibiki clenched her fist and thrust out the item again.]

If you were not affected by Time Compression's latest stunt, then disregard this message. I assume you have nothing of interest to offer me.

The remainder of those who have unfortunately been affected, I would like to speak with you, either via message or in person if you so prefer. Particularly, I'm interested in whether or not you've showed a distinct lack of powers beforehand.

Those of you who have had prior abilities can rest easy. I have no desire to round you up for identification.

[A little ways inside the front gate, something strange is going on. There is an elf sitting up against the edge of the path. For those who know him, he has back the markings that vanished during the time when everyone's powers got mixed up. But that's not what's strange. What's strange is that he is not lurking and brooding, or cleaning up and brooding, or serving hot dogs and brooding (he does a lot of different things around here, and also he broods).

Instead, he is staring with a deeply quizzical expression at the five Triple Triad cards spread out in front of him. Every so often he picks one up, turns it over repeatedly in his hands, then puts it back down.

He doesn't get it.]

How do you get rid of animals?

[Today you will find Squall sitting outside in the Quad. Why? It might have something to do with the crowd of animals gathering around him. Birds, deer, mice, cockroaches, there's even a few grats from the Training Center. None of them seem violent, pressing in around Squall like a cat looking for a good pet. Speaking of which all those illegal cats in B-Garden? Yeah you might see a few of those too.

Squall looks like he's reaching his limit though. Standing up he slashes his arm through the air.]

[...Nothing happens. In fact the animals press in closer. Sitting back down on a bench he just puts his head in his hands. What'd he do to deserve this...]

Greetings, everyone. My name is Raine Sage, and I'm a returning Instructor who just finished a very educational and quite fascinating study of ruins around the globe. I'll be teaching World Geography, so if any students have questions about the class, please feel free to let me know. If you want to see a slide-show presentation of my trip and my collection of artifacts and other historical objects, please feel free to ask! I'm one of the faculty members staying in Fisherman's Horizon, so keep that in mind if you'd like to see me in person.

Zelos, thank you for keeping touch with me. I'm sorry for not returning your latest letter, I was busy packing. Did I miss anything important?

[ action ]

[ Raine is hanging out at the Quad, with some weird... "artifacts" and stones laid out on a blanket. A lot of it looks understandably like junk, but Raine looks like she is in heaven. Just staring at them makes her seem happy. She looks quite busy arranging, rearranging, and examining the different objects. Maybe she's thinking of putting them up on display? ]

This is marvelous... simply marvelous! Real stone from the Tomb of the Unknown King! I wonder if being around the Brothers has imbued it with Earth properties...

[ Let's be honest here: She looks like a madwoman, the way she's staring at the stone in her hands. There's other crap all over the blanket: A stick of metal that looks like staircase railing, a piece of a broken vase, some broken bit of machinery and it's difficult to believe that any of this could be considered valuable. Still, maybe if you're a bad dude enough, you can approach her and ask about it... ]

[ Claire might be overly-serious and often annoyed by what is seemingly the strangest, smallest thing, but over the last week or so... yeah, something has definitely thrown her off completely-- even more so than the now-regular hints here and there that something is wrong.

Case in point #1: she's carrying around a weapon with her pretty much all the time now, regardless of any odd looks she gets. Standing in the cafeteria line? Yep, there's her bronze-colored FF8-style gunblade hanging sheathed behind her. Walking to class? That's her folded-up blue and gunmetal-black gunblade that came with her from home...

Case in point #2: she keeps messing with the lights even in the middle of class, and even though normally she's glad for the fact that her classrooms have windows, the dark looks she keeps aiming towards them from the other side of the room are... odd, to say the least. Eventually-- ]

Alright, that's enough. We're finished for the day.

[ ... Then, she moves to leave without another word. Simple as that.

However, afterwards she... still isn't looking so good at all, arm outstretched to lean against a wall outside, somewhere in between Garden's entrance and the inn. With her head bowed and eyes closed, she's pale, noticeably sweating, and totally tuned out to what's going on around her.

And furthermore? Those with a particularly keen sense of observation might notice something else interesting- wherever her clothes don't cover, she's... not casting a shadow. Weird. ]

[But for all his dire talk of abandoning Garden, Fenris feels less inclined to go outside than ever. He's been catching sight of strange flickers on his skin for days now, moments of peculiar illumination out of his control, and he was half-ready to chalk it up to some madness brought on by the dark forces he's convinced run through this place. Until waking up this morning to clear skin, his tattoos completely gone.

He wants to feel elated. But he never does seem to get what he wants.

Right now he's sitting in the corner of the secret area in the training center, slumped against the railing, looking more defeated than he realizes. He stays, for now, because it's not quite late enough for curfew-breaking students to start filtering in.]

[Spend time around Fisherman's Horizon today, and you may run into an unfortunate scene: an armored elf with a huge sword slung over his back, upsetting the locals. He is, after all, rather hostile-looking for such a peaceful and pacifist town, and he isn't even in SeeD uniform. It's more or less the same story at various points during the day: Fenris attempts to enter town with his sword and armor in place, and some local authority figure rebuffs him sternly for disrupting the peace. His responses grow increasingly sarcastic and bitter as the day wears on--]

I intend no harm nor provocation. I'm merely accustomed to keeping my weapons close at hand.

Yes, this is surely a sound philosophy. Feel free to ask me for help when raiders savage your docks and kidnap your children. I'll be over here, ignoring you entirely.

[By nightfall, he's just outside town on Horizon Bridge, leaning against a lamp post and scowling at the unhelpful ocean. He still has his sword with him. He's not trying to fight anything, though. He's just...brooding. In the dimming light. It's quite picturesque, really.]

[Rikku's sitting in the quad, various vials of restoratives lying around. She finally managed to get enough potions to try out Mix. So far, she hadn't gotten anything, but this time, she's sure of it.

A little splash here, a shake there, and--

Okay, so the fact that her Ultra Potion is accompanied by a loud, unexpected "BOOM" startles her (maybe she used too much), but the fact that she can see the healing sparkles and can feel the bruises from tripping she has heal makes Rikku grin. So what if the trees around her are now missing several small branches? No one got hurt!]

It works!

Hey Garden.

Guess what.

You're now trapped in the elevator.

Maybe you were too lazy to take the stairs; maybe you just needed to get somewhere and this was the quickest way from A to B, despite the janitor's warnings (and the signs on every floor).

Whatever the reason, it's too late! You're stuck in here. The lights are out, none of the buttons are working (or maybe they're jammed?), and it's unlikely you'd be able to pry open the doors — this elevator is one sturdy son of a gun, and between floors, there's nowhere to go.

Anyway... who's that with you?]

[Night has fallen on Balamb Garden; the halls of Garden are mostly deserted besides the stray student walking about, and even the usual faculty members are missing from their posts around the school. There's a certain festive energy through the air, the source coming from the happily decorated Ballroom located on the second floor.

At exactly 2100, as soon as the dinner rush ends, the Garden chime sounds and the intercom clicks on. The Headmaster speaks to the Garden.

The Homecoming Dance is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom.

I repeat, the Homecoming Dance is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom. The ball will run until 2400. Students leaving the ball after curfew are to return to their dorms immediately.

[There seems to be a festive atmosphere all throughout Garden. Why? Because it's the Homecoming Carnival! The Garden Festival Committee has been hard at work all morning and when 1300 hours strikes, it's finally open for everyone to enjoy.

There's a map on the Directory which shows where everything is located:

Have fun, Garden!]

[OOC: As noted, this has been backdated to last Friday. So as not to exclude new characters who came in after, though, it can be assumed that their arrivals were backdated so they can participate.

PLEASE DO NOT POST UNTIL WE HAVE FINISHED PUTTING UP THE SUBCOMMENTS. Thank you! We're done posting the subcomments, you can go ahead and jump in!

EDIT: Also, we forgot to mention: Players can assume that characters take different shifts which allow for everyone to enjoy other parts of the carnival as well instead of being stuck manning a booth the whole night. For Dunk Tank and Kissing Booth, it's best to leave your character's name in the subject of their comment to start off their thread to indicate their shift. Thank you!

EDIT 2: FORGIVE US! We forgot to mention that there is a price for some of the attractions at the carnival. This is a fundraiser where the money can to go whatever the Garden Festival Committee sees fit; we'll let the players and their characters decide on that front. Here's how the pricing goes:

KISS: 2 gil each
CARNIVAL GAME: 1 gil per game
FACE PAINTING: 2 gil per person
FOOD STALLS: We'll leave this up to characters to decide.
DUNK TANK: 5 gil for 3 balls, 10 gil for 10 balls
FORTUNE TELLING: 3 gil per reading

We hope this clarifies things!

[Today, all over the school, there's a girl walking around! She looks a little lost, perhaps, and like she's exploring the area, but she still has a bright smile on her face. She's also trying to initiate conversation with everyone she sees-- at the very least, she's trying to introduce herself to as many people as possible. She's aware that she will probably be spending some time here, so it can't hurt to start getting to know everyone now! Besides, there were probably a lot of interesting people around.

introspective tl;dr shit )

[ And so Mami can be found all around the Gardens, and, well- exploring would be the right word. She looks around curiously from when she enters the lobby to when she goes searching around taking in her new surroundings, occasionally stopping, then standing and simply staring at things; she makes a sort of mental map of everything she sees as she explores, taking note of anything that might be important, for future reference.

She'll start looking a bit lost eventually, wandering around aimlessly and ending up in places she has already been in and then leaving, but she won't say anything and seem more amused by it every time than frustrated or worried. Though she'll make her way to the dorm eventually; one might catch her either as she's walking there or just as she is beginning to open the door and walk in.

Throughout all this, she looks startlingly and utterly calm, absolutely nothing like someone who just arrived a few minutes ago would be. ]

Has anyone happened to see anyone by the names of Kaname Madoka or Miki Sayaka? I apologize for bothering everyone, but if anyone can assist me in my search, I would sincerely appreciate it. Thank you. I am Tomoe Mami, by the way; a new arrival, so to speak. It is a pleasure to meet you all. And if anyone could tell them that I am searching for them, should they meet either of them, that would also be appreciated.

[1: the training center; last night]
[In the middle of the training center there is a ghost. Only not really. Ghosts generally don't fight T-rexaurs or wield really huge swords.

After almost two weeks, on and off, of watching the adventures of others in the training center and occasionally taking on a few Grats, Fenris has decided to see just what its more monstrous inhabitants can really do. Curiosity may be his stated intent, but of course his motivation is as always as much to release some of his fury at the world he's been thrown into at a controlled burn as anything else. Unfortunately, he wasn't exactly counting on this...rather remarkable dragon-like thing. He's not completely outmatched, but it's a giant dinosaur, and all he has is his natural strength and his armor. He could probably use a little help.

He's trying not to look like he needs it, though. He fights ruthlessly and intensely, with perfectly controlled, powerful swings of the sword and low, flat-voiced oaths muttered in some foreign tongue. And then there's the matter of his ghostliness. He seems insubstantial despite the obvious power of his blows, shimmering nearly white and moving fleetly, ethereally through the undergrowth.]

[1: the library; this morning]
[The work given to him over his time here has been easy enough, and the compensation fair. Collect and sort trays and utensils in the cafeteria. Wash Garden's official vehicles (all right, so he's not entirely convinced those filthy metal things aren't some kind of armored monsters, but aside from that). Spend a night making sure monsters don't escape the training center. That sort of thing. Today's job: "More librarians than usual have the day off. Pick up the slack for them and put the books back into place."

Fenris was supposed to get this done early in the morning, before the library officially opened. It's now 0915 and he's still standing in front of one shelf, holding a stack of books and debating internally whether he could get away with sorting them by color and calling it a day. It's one thing to tell Hawke that he can't read, you see; it's quite another to admit it to the people in charge of Garden.

On the plus side, he's feeling too awkward to be properly filled with rage right now.]
