[ Azula was sitting comfortably on a bench in the quad, history book and highlighter in hand. Not like she really needed to take the notes, but what else was she supposed to do? She would have ran around causing trouble for people but there wasn't anyone around to cause trouble for, and she didn't want to personally seek someone out. That might lead them to believe they were special, and she didn't want that, oh no. She eventually set the book aside and sat awkwardly on the bench, waiting for someone to pop up. Anybody. Maybe she should seek someone out... surely Aang wouldn't be too hard to find. Of course, if she started something with him now then everything with...

She shook the thoughts from her head and stretched her arms above her head. Perhaps today would just be a lazy day. ]

[Night has fallen on Balamb Garden; the halls of Garden are mostly deserted besides the stray student walking about, and even the usual faculty members are missing from their posts around the school. There's a certain festive energy through the air, the source coming from the eerily decorated Ballroom located on the second floor.

At exactly 2100, as soon as the dinner rush ends, the Garden chime sounds and the intercom clicks on. The Headmaster speaks to the Garden.

The Masquerade Ball is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom.

I repeat, the Masquerade Ball is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom. The ball will run until 2400. Students leaving the ball after curfew are to return to their dorms immediately.

The ball and its festivities tonight are being sponsored very generously by the Garden Festival Committee.

[After the announcement, the intercom falls silent. The faint sound of music can be heard from the second floor of the building.]

A mod note )

[ Everyone within a hundred mile radius probably heard the blood curdling scream erupt from Azula's mouth as she quickly realized her eyesight was gone.

She fumbled about in her room, not bothering trying to put on proper clothes and fix her messy hair as she stumbled out and down the hallway in her robe. Surely she would find somebody who would come to her aid-- the Headmaster's little comment wasn't enough to reassure her everything would be alright. Zuko would have to come and check up on her, make sure she was alright-- would he? Would she even cross his mind? She didn't think she could even make it up the stairs and to his room like this. She was useless. Katara certainly wouldn't care, she'd probably think it was funny... maybe Sokka... no, she shut the thought out of her mind.

Azula collapsed on the floor and firepunched the wall in front of her, leaning her forehead against it while she calmed herself down. Going into a rage would not get her anywhere. ]

[Oh. Dance. How Zuko did not miss you during his recovery. But now that he's good as new (except for the physical therapy still), he's expected to continue attending his courses and - gasp - actually participate, too!

It's samba time!

His fellow classmates can find him sitting off to the side near one of the pillars, absently rubbing his previously injured shoulder and looking like he's not quite awake yet in spite of the breakfast he had inhaled thirty minutes ago before classes began. But for his shoulder, Zuko must have slept on it wrong- those damn kittens sure do enjoy climbing around on him while he tries to sleep.

There have been a lot of questions asked about our home worlds, like about energy sources, or what others can do to make this world more like home. But there hasn't been a question about loved ones.

So, fellow off-worlders (perhaps natives as well?), who do you miss most at home? Be it family or close friends, or someone you admire.

For myself, it's definitely my mother and father. My mother for her kindness, and snacks (I'm a bit biased when it comes to a mother's cooking), and my father, whom I aspire to be. He was quite the decorated hero of my country.

[ It was quiet. The weather was nice. Azula curled up beneath a tree with her books in the Quad, taking advantage of the lack of others to catch up with schoolwork. She felt like she lacked excitement-- she didn't yet have cause to ruin the Avatar and his friends lives and she didn't feel like killing Zuko just yet.

She sighed as she flipped a page in her textbook. She didn't like that they had managed to get to Zuko. He liked to pretend that he was still on her side but she knew better, of course. She had lost her brother. And while trying to convince Sokka she wasn't all that bad either was a nice plan, she doubted she could ever truly play her part correctly and murder Aang. Though she couldn't exactly say she didn't enjoy the company of the boomerang boy-- something that made her cringe and miss home even more.

Lack of excitement.

She glanced up from her book out at the silent courtyard and flopped back in the grass, holding her book up, lazily reading the text. ]

[It was the third week. On and off since his stupidity in trying to attack a T-Rexaur a few weeks back, Zuko had been attending classes regularly. Some days he wasn't around much in class, using those days to get some extra rest or spend some time with Dr. Kadowaki. While other days he attended the full hour and a half. Today was going to be no different.

He was seated off to the side and leaning back against the wall on one of the benches aligning it, his right arm still bound snugly in the sling to his chest. Next to him sat some light-weight notebooks for his other morning classes.

Zuko would glance at the door every once and a while as if looking for someone and when he wasn't, he was ignoring the looks sent his way from the other cadets. The pitying looks. He'd had enough of those in his day.

So what does one do on the Disciplinary Committee?

I was given a brief summary of what's involved and then there was some paperwork, but I'm still a little confused. Do I need to introduce myself or is there someone I report to?

[identity profile] watertides.livejournal.com
[The transition period between quarters had been a nice vacation-- it's been a long while since Katara had the chance to sleep in and the waterbender had taken advantage of the opportunity; she wasn't much of a morning person, given her ties to the moon. But for once, she's looking forward to waking up at the break of dawn-- she has signed up for Ballroom Dancing at the earliest slot available hoping that a fun class would be a nice thing to wake up to.

Katara arrives to the expansive ballroom on the second floor before a majority of the other cadets, judging by the few number of students waiting around. She's dressed in her cadet uniform, something she still has yet to get use to-- not that she doesn't like it, but it's so unfamiliar to the clothing that she's accustomed to wearing.

Leaning against a wall, her blue eyes gaze around absentmindedly to see if she can spot out a familiar face amongst the scarce number of cadets.]

[After arriving the way he did, it was hard believing he was in anything but a perfect shape. It had taken him a good hour before he convinced Doctor Kado--whatever there was nothing wrong with him. That was, of course, after a forceful, general medical examination.

Once out, Kanda looked down at the paperwork in his hands with disinterest and something akin to annoyance. He wasn't the type to enjoy reading over things that weren't necessary, like what classes he needed to take and curfew. What the hell? To top that off, he was supposed to wear a fugly excuse for a uniform.

He was not about to blend in this place. He refused, to this point, believe that he was going to stay here for a long period of time.

Kanda made way to his dormitory with thoughts of what happened last back there, in his mind.

That's of course, until he encountered a not-so-automatic door. Fuck this stupid place and its stupid technology.

[Toph was bored. So freaking bored. Classes started in a few days, but there was really nothing to do until then.

She was walking randomly around Garden, hand trailing against the wall as she walked... when suddenly, she smirked. She tapped her bare foot on the floor to see if anyone was coming... when there wasn't, she moved her arms in the familiar pattern, and a piece of the wall shot out. Chuckling to herself, she did those practiced movements again, and another piece of the metal wall shot out a bit ahead.

This would go on for a couple more feet, until she was quite satisfied with herself. Whistling a tune, she continues her walk.]

[Since the incident down at the beach, Katara has been mindful to keep her bending under wraps, careful to only utilize her ability when in the Training Center. It's rare that she even tries to bend the waters of the pool anymore-- it doesn't feel right anyways, the water weighed down with an unnatural substance.

Katara is in the heart of the Training Center now, standing at the edge of the creek which runs through the jungle setting. The area around her is devoid of monsters-- the Grats and T-Rexuars seem to be roaming elsewhere at the moment, which is just fine with her. Instead, she uses the opportunity to meditate, her body moving through the familiar waterbending poses, though dramatically decreased in speed to allow her to really feel the water-- without looking, she knows that the water of the creek has risen to mimic her body movements, slowly threading through the air.

Her eyes are closed, breathing even as she continues this exercise.]

Guessing by all the BBS posts up today, I think most of you have seen the new issue of the newsletter. With that said, I'd like to state a formal apology addressed to the Cadets, SeeDs and Faculty in Garden.

I was the one that was caught waterbending by a native down at the beach in Dollet. I know, I know-- It was a stupid thing for me to do. I was overeager at the chance of being surrounded by my element and I made a bad judgment call. I should have been more mindful of my actions, as now my carelessness has caused for the natives to become wary of Garden.

But at the same time, I don't regret having exposed this sort of prejudice that the natives hold against us off-worlders. We're here because we don't have a choice-- if I had my way, I would be home where I wouldn't be ostracized for a natural ability that isn't viewed as a curse by the people of my world. Bending is an art form, a rare gift that only the few and proud possess. I shouldn't have to be ashamed of it or live in fear because of my ability.

Even if I do have the gift to manipulate water, I know better than to use it against innocent people. What's to say that everyone who has a unique ability immediately has ill intentions? Their ignorance isn't going to make our lives any easier during our stay in this world. There has to be a way to make them see us in a different light.

Doubtless several of us have read the newsletter at this point. And while the news between Galbadia and Esthar is disquieting (we will ignore some of the other articles) I feel that we 'off-worlders' should also put some attention towards the rumors of our school harboring Sorceresses.

A significant number of us possess abilities that cannot be conventionally explained, either via science or this world's system of magic. And while it would be prudent to keep them low key to avoid attention, letting them go to waste or become unpolished through lack of training or by being overly cautious is also not an option.

Are there suggestions on how to find a middle ground to all of this? I personally have no interest in being powerless by refusing to take action, either in the event of a war, or a witch hunt by less accepting sorts.

[It had taken some doing, but as Selphie stood in the middle of the decorated bar, the green eyed girl swelled with excitement. Thanks to the help she had received, Dollet's bar had turned into the perfect place to hold her carefully planned party.

In one corner of the bar, tables and chairs had been moved to clear a space large enough for the night's entertainment to begin setting up. It was still early, so the band was still positioning stands, amps and other items as they began to tune up for a nights worth of playing. Selphie left that to the band, knowing when to back out of playing party planner and leaving things to people who knew best about their own equipment.

The rest of the tables and chairs were set up at the other end of the bar, just in front of a longer table set up with food, non-alcoholic drinks, plates and glasses. She had managed to get a fair enough spread of food, hopefully catering to the diverse tastes of the Garden residents. Anyone who was old enough for alcohol, had the option of going to the actual bar of the establishment. Among what they could order there, Selphie had set several single serving bottles of several types of drinks on ice, the large bucket sitting up on the bar where it could be easily watched, and any underage lurkers could be shooed off.

For now, all that the party needed, was the partiers!

[ Azula sat in the courtyard, her eyes half open as she gazed upon the students walking about. Tired wouldn't even begin to describe how she felt.

Recently she had been having trouble sleeping. At first it wasn't a big deal, but now... She would abuse her Disciplinary Committee privileges and train while everyone else was asleep-- it was much nicer when nobody else was using the area and it was definitely something to help her get her mind off of her dreams. Well, nightmares.

It wasn't that they bothered her too terribly, but it was hard to sleep when your mind kept going back to those same dark places. She was used to working hard and never sleeping so it wasn't too much of a strain on her body, but it was a pain to have to do that here after she had grown comfortable with a sleeping schedule focused around her classes.

Although she felt "alright", to the wandering eye Azula probably appeared to look a little frazzled. Especially with the dark circles under her eyes and every hair not in its place. ]

[Rock climbing plus lack of good sleep sounds like a terrible idea. Oh-so-terrible. Good thing he ate all the meat he could at lunch--that should keep him going.

Sokka stands in class and rolls his neck before popping his back. If everybody else can do this, he can do it too. He's a great climber! He took all that advice from Aang's crazy dreams and praticed, didn't he? Not to mention that all the sword work has definitely given him some great looking arms.

Lacing his fingers, Sokka nods cracks his knuckles. Stretches his arms over his head and then left right, left right, and down to touch his toes. Okay! Time to rock this class.

... Get it? Rock the class? Rock Climbing?]

With Almasy gone, we now have an opening in the leadership position in our little club. Unfortunately, since all of us currently do not outrank each other we must come to an agreement on who can fulfill this position.

Unless somebody who does outrank us decides to join and claim the position... well...

Either you all decide now on this little contraption to make me leader or we meet in person so I can convince you of my worthiness.

[There was a reason for why Zuko had been born into the Fire Nation. A reason for why he was a firebender and not a waterbender. He hated water, or at least swimming in it. It was for mostly personal reasons, even if he did enjoy sitting in a nice bath in the royal bathhouse.

So now he stood at the steps leading into the shallow end of the pool, arms crossed over his chest, a frown on his face. Did they really expect him to get in there?

And these shorts weren't the most comfortable items of clothing for this particular sport.

{{ooc; it's an open action post. If you have swimming 101 at 15:30 on mon/wed/fri - this is the place for you :)}}

[Luki's moving around the Garden quickly, with an uncharacteristically serious and urgent look on her face. Based on the way she's meticulously checking under tables, around corners, behind shrubbery and so on, it's evident that she's looking for someone or something. The worried expression on her face is a good sign that whoever or whatever she's looking for is very important to her.]

Noki? I wanna stop playing hide and seek now, okay? Let's go play something else. It's not fun anymore.
