[It doesn't matter where or what the students are doing-- a sudden sleepy haze seems to cloud their minds until they can no longer fight off the drowsiness. Down they go into a deep, deep slumber, where nothing can successfully stir them awake.

Sweet dreams, Cadets.]

[At exactly 0600, the Headmaster begins the daily wake-up call over the intercom.]

Good morning, Balamb Garden. It is 0600 hours on Monday, August 16thth. This is your Headmaster with your daily wake up call. All residents, students and staff are to be out of bed by 0630. I repeat: all residents, students and staff are to be out of bed by 0630.

On another note: Garden will depart on Saturday, August 21st at 1200 hours where we will re-station back on the Balamb Continent. There will be another announcement the day of departure, but if there are any last minute errands you wish to attend to in Dollet, please make sure they are completed before the weekend.

This concludes the wake-up call. Have a wonderful first day, Cadets.

[The announcement ends, and the intercom clicks off.]

[Come Wednesday morning, as students rise from their beds as usual, they may notice students and SeeDs alike reading a newsletter. It turns out the Garden has just released the Summer/Fall edition of the Balamb Newsletter. Issues are available for free on racks in the Cafeteria!]

[At 0900 hours, the announcement bell chimes and once again a voice much more youthful than the Headmaster's begins to speak.]

Good morning, inhabitants of Balamb Garden! This is your pilot Nida speaking. Now that we're docked in Dollet, it's time to get our vacation on! That's right - everyone's free to leave Garden and stretch their legs. Hyne knows I will! [He sounds so eager and can't help but give a little laugh.]

Please remember to stay safe while exploring and don't go getting into too much trouble! Oh! I forgot - curfew. I know I know. Not something you want to hear, s-sorry! Anyways. About that curfew. Good news! All cadets are given an extra half-hour in which they must return to Garden for the remainder of the night. Instead of having to check in at 2300 hours, curfew for this week is 2330 hours.

Don't worry though. We'll be here all week! Plenty of time to sight see and whatever else you want to get done.

Have fun, everyone! Maybe we'll bump into each other.

[The announcement ends, and the intercom clicks off.]

[Mod note: Here's the kick off to the week of vacation for the cadets! For those who are unfamiliar with Dollet, information about the city can be found here. Students are free to roam around the city or keep within Garden if they so desire. The second term will start August 1st-- until then, it's vacation time!

Party-style tags/threads are more than welcome. Mingle, chat, action!

Also note; if there are any interested in trying their hand at getting Siren while in Dollet, more information can be found here. Feel free to PM us and we'll help you set that up. :)]

[As students lay down to sleep on the last night in the month of June, they'll begin to experience nightmares. Unique to each individual, they're only similar in the fact that they're terrifying and warped to everyone who experiences it.

Sleep well.

[At noon on Monday the 31st, students will feel a slight tremor, followed by a full blown earthquake (or so it will seem) as the Garden plummets to the ocean below. After the initial quake, the Garden will even out to a slow, boat-like rocking motion.

About ten minutes after the quake, the intercom comes on:
]

Students and Faculty, this is Headmaster Cid speaking: please don't be alarmed. That was quite a jolt, wasn't it? The Garden has landed in the waters off of the continent of Balamb, and we are currently sea-bound. We will be airborne again in a matter of time, but for the moment, please enjoy the ocean's calming motion.

Disciplinary Committee-- please make your rounds and ensure that no student has suffered injury during the impact. Any cadet or SeeD that wishes to lend a hand are welcomed to volunteer as well. Any injured student is to be taken to the Infirmary!

Again, please don't be alarmed, and the Garden will be airborne again in a matter of time.

[After the announcement ends, the intercom shuts off. The Garden will become mobile again by no later than 2PM, where it will resume its position over the Balamb continent. In the meantime, you're floating!]

[Cadets might take notice of several new postings submitted to A Message From Garden under Garden Events since the ball on Sunday. It seems clubs and committees are beginning to be active for the Quarter. Among these are:]

Attention, cadets! Are you interested in school spirit, festivals and fun?! The Garden Festival Committee wants you! Come join and make a difference in your fellow cadet's lives.

Our first meeting for the quarter will be this Friday at 1800! It'll run as late as it takes, so be ready!

-GFC Spokesman

[Another notice reads:]

The library committee is seeking members. If you enjoy reading, discussing literature with peers and a quiet, welcoming environment this committee is for you.

Meetings will be held regularly from 1800-2000 every Thursday.

Thank you for your time,
LC Head Danuriel Worth

[And a final notice reads:]

Fans of Triple Triad rejoice! The card club is official and accepting members. If you like playing, collecting or trading Triple Triad, come join us! Even if you don't know what it is, feel free to come around and learn about the game.

Our very first meeting is going to be next Monday, from 1700-2000. Bring your cards!

[This message is unsigned. This concludes the garden committee and clubs bulletin.]

(
Mod note: Every club/committee is attended by at least one faculty/teaching npc supervisor. Players are free to log/speak for these npcs in basic ways. The clubs are meant as another method of character interaction, so the npcs won't be playing integral roles. Occasionally, the actual wrnpcs account will attend meetings and act as the supervisor. Notice will be given ahead of time! )

[It's quiet as night falls on Balamb Garden, quiet enough to hear the crickets chirping on the ground below and the sea waves lapping the shore in the distance. The sky is clear and full of stars. The halls of Garden are empty except for a couple cadets here and there -- indeed, even the faculty seems to be missing from their usual posts.

At exactly 2100, as soon as the dinner rush ends, the Garden chime sounds and the intercom clicks on. Once again, the Headmaster speaks to the Garden.
]

The Welcoming Ball is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom.

I repeat, the Welcoming Ball is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom. The ball will run until 2400. Students leaving the ball after curfew are to return to their dorms immediately.

The ball and its festivities tonight are being sponsored very generously by the Ruby group.

[After the announcement, the intercom falls silent. The faint sound of music can be heard from the second floor of the building.]

[Two days ago, an unexpected flood of cadets and civilians arrived at Balamb Garden. Though confused and, for some, frightened, the newcomers are still expected to uphold the Garden's standard of daily life. Unfortunately for late sleepers, that includes a six am wake up call.

At exactly 0600, the Garden-wide intercom clicks on and the Headmaster's voice can be heard in every corner of the premises.

[ It's a bright, fresh day in the small island country of Balamb, such fine weather a certain sign of auspice. Sounds of gulls crying and waves crashing, and the liveliness of a sea-side town not even a few miles away, can be heard by the students and occupants of Balamb Garden.

Most students are dutifully busy with their regular schedules, paying little heed to climate or clamor, but today is not merely the same as any other. Confronting the continuous flow of curious new arrivals, Headmaster Cid has taken it upon himself to hold an initiation ceremony for the misplaced.

At exactly 1930 hours, these special cadets are to be present in his [3F] office, dressed in their brand new uniforms. It goes without saying that any of the new arrivals not present will be subject to disciplinary action.

Headmaster Cid stands to the fore, his position prominent yet his appearance much more homely and welcoming than one would expect from a military academy's chief. As the invited cadets enter the room, he has a nod for each and every one of them.

At 1930 hours on the minute, he begins his speech.
]

--At ease, Cadets.

First of all, welcome. I assume you must all be very confused, no? Don't worry, we are all in this boat with you. The long and short of it is, due to catastrophic events in our own world, you've been drawn here from your own. It is unknown how, or if, this may be reversed, and unfortunately some nations aren't readily accepting of foreigners. They may, in fact, be terrified of you.

That isn't the case here. We understand your situation and sympathize, and are offering safe lodging to cadets and civilians alike until such a time as your situations have been sorted out.

However... Garden isn't independently wealthy, and can only support so many people on its own. That's where you come in, our promising new SeeD cadets.

From now on, as a member of the SeeD training program, each of you will engage in strenuous training courses and exercises as part of a daily regimen designed to develop and hone your skills. Because all present were accepted to the program, I assume you've read through all of the information manuals?

We are proud to accept you as SeeD cadets, Balamb Garden's mercenary soldiers in training. SeeD soldiers are combat specialists. But that is only one aspect of SeeD. When the time comes...

[ Headmaster Cid clears his throat and continues speaking. ]

That is all. This ends the SeeD Cadet initiation ceremony. Dismissed!

[ The Garden chime sounds at exactly 2000 hours, marking the end of the ceremony and the beginning of the Cadets' new lives in Balamb. Faculty members show the Cadets out of the office. Dinner is now being served in the cafeteria, and Cadets have the rest of the day to themselves, where they may partake in private tours of the Garden, get to know each other or simply relax. ]

Character A here! I have a request... it's okay to do that here, right? Huh, anyway. Yeah, I was wondering if anyone wants to go practice at the Training Center? Just need two teammates. Meet me at the Training Center at 2100.

[ Character A is sitting at the Library, looking quite bored at the panel of the computer he is sitting in front of. The bright screen shows a tutorial, which clearly indicates he's studying, or at least trying to. ]

This is so boring.

[ With a groan, he stretches his back and yawns, a bit too loudly because one of the Library club members gives him a stinky eye. ]

Sorry. [ He scratches the back of his head awkwardly. ] This class is the worst thing ever. [ Character A blinks, then turns a bit more to Character B. ] Do you understand it? 'Cause I'm about to give up, man.
