[tempesting]

[ Dolphin could feel a slight tremor beneath her feet from where she sat in her Dean's office, filing papers. She's heard knocking and footsteps most all day. Frankly, she's glad that she's not the Commander's secretary, as she thinks that whoever would have that job would have to deal with a lot of angry cadets and SeeDs.

But the tremor beneath her feet is different. She knows this reaction to a force of strength very well, and it causes her to pull out her laptop, open her messaging program, and put in the recipient line: STARFIRE. ]

I heard your footsteps in the Dean's office. Did you go see the Commander? Are you okay?
- Dolphin

[curiouseyes]

I did go see the Commander. I needed to ask her about the mission. I'm doing better than I was.

[tempesting]

How are you feeling?

[curiouseyes]

Still a bit worried about it. It's... a very stressful mission.

[tempesting]

Do you want to meet and talk about it over ice cream?

[curiouseyes]

Yes, I would like to meet and talk to you.

[tempesting]

How about your room? I'll go get a big green tea ice cream sundae and bring it on up. Is that okay?

[curiouseyes]

[If she could see, she would see Koriand'r smile at that. She had liked the green tea...]

That is perfect. I'll wait for you here.

[tempesting]

[ Dolphin does what she said she would and shows up ten minutes later at Starfire's door with a big green tea ice cream sundae and two bananas still in their skins. She didn't know whether or not Starfire would want them in her sundae, and anyways, she might just eat them while Starfire tucks into her ice cream with the pink princess Dolphin brought with her.

She raps her knuckles on the door. ]

Starfire?

[curiouseyes]

[Koriand'r was waiting for her. She had gotten her room straightened up what little it needed and when she heard the knock, she went to open the door]

Hello Dolphin. Come in.

[She steps back so she can come in]

My roommate is not here right now.

[tempesting]

[ Dolphin does come in and looks for a flat surface where she can set down the sundae. ]

You've got the room all to yourself, huh?

[curiouseyes]

[Koriand'r's desk had enough open space since she had moved all of her books and notes to the other side of desk. That would have been the best place]

I do. At least for the moment. Do you want to sit?

[She gestures to her chair]

[tempesting]

Love to. [ She instead takes a seat on the floor, sets down the sundae, and beckons Starfire to come and sit with her. She holds out the pretty princess spoon, smiling encouragingly. ] I know it looks dumb, but I thought you might think it's cute.

[curiouseyes]

[Okay, they are sitting on the floor. Kori sits down with her. She tilts her head to look at the spoon then smiles]

It looks cute! Thank you.

[tempesting]

[ She waits for Starfire to tuck into the sundae before speaking. ]

So how did your talk go?

[curiouseyes]

[She starts working on the sundae] It was better than I was expecting. It did help reassure me there is reason... a good reason, but I'm still... just concerned about the others. I don't know how strong the creatures there are.

[tempesting]

Are you worried you might not make it back?

[curiouseyes]

[She pauses a moment then says] A little, but I'm not really worried about myself. I know how to deal with pain.

[tempesting]

But you're worried that while you might be fine, other people might be getting hurt.

[curiouseyes]

I am. [She paused to take a bite of the sundae] I don't want anyone to get hurt.

[tempesting]

I don't think that's possible, Starfire. People are going to get injured, but I'm sure that no one is going to get hurt to the point of fatality. Everyone going out there has been training here for a while, right? I'm sure that there are cadets who are worrying about the same thing, and will jump in to protect their fellow cadets.

[curiouseyes]

I know... But its not in my nature to just let others get hurt. I know they've had training, but... its still not something I'm used to doing.

[tempesting]

It never is. But you have to do that if you want the other cadets to grow stronger and wiser, because they're going to go into the front-lines soon enough, right?

[curiouseyes]

I know. But I would feel better knowing what the monsters are. I know nothing about them other than they are strong.

[tempesting]

Did you think of asking the Commander what they might be or did you already ask?

[curiouseyes]

I didn't think to ask, but even just knowing doesn't tell me how strong they are. I don't have anything to compare with.

[tempesting]

Well ...let's make this worst case scenario preparation. Who or what is the strongest thing that you have ever fought?

[curiouseyes]

Let's see... Trigon might be the strongest. The Titans from Donna's world are strong too... Donna.

[tempesting]

Okay. So then. Imagine you're about to go onto an island full of Donnas.

[curiouseyes]

[She thinks about that for a moment between a few bites of ice cream]

That's a scary thought.

[tempesting]

It is a scary thought, but while usually people would say, 'Don't think the worst' you are going out there practically blind. But, I thought of something. Not all monsters on the island must be necessarily bad. The Commander said that this mission is to help Cadets utilize their skills on what they have learned here. And one of the classes does cover general safety and animal awareness.

[curiouseyes]

I think it is the point that they are sending us out practically blind. It's a good test.

[She took another bite of ice cream] You think some of them may not try to attack us if we leave them alone?

[tempesting]

It is, but it's still worrying and dangerous.

[ She nods. ] Yes. I think that if you don't antagonize the monsters, some may just ignore you and go on their way. The test is about getting through the island, right? Using skills? What better skill to have than to be able to calm down an enemy or even mollify a possible assailant, right?

[curiouseyes]

I know it is, but I like the challenge.

I guess that would be worth a try. I think the point is to test our fighting abilities and prove we can come back after being injured. That part I'm not concerned about. I already know that I can.
